Joni | 626 comments Warrick Dunn is the perfect example of a servant leader. When Warrick was 18 years old, his mother, a Baton Rouge police officer, was gunned down in an attempted robbery. At that moment, Warrick had to step up, take care of, and lead his family....his five brothers and sisters. In Running for My Life, Warrick describes how his mother's death changed him; how he continued to follow the dreams his mother had for him; how he cared for his siblings; and how he cared for those in need. He also discusses something that he was afflicted with for many years....depression. Warrick started his own non-profit, Homes for the Holidays....assisting single mom's with the purchase of a home....and more. Warrick is a very humble man and you see that in this book. One of the most courageous things that Warrick ever did was meet face to face with the man that killed his mom. This man never admitted to Warrick that he did this crime because he was in the middle of appealing his case.....claiming it wasn't him that awful night. Warrick wrote this man a letter which he read during their meeting and he ended it with this quote from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. "The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort or conveniences, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy." Warrick had many challenges....but he made the choice to man up and overcome them.
