30% in I'm enjoying the different Povs especially Winter and Marcus. (view spoiler)[ I'm wondering who the sorcerer is for the soldiers maybe the new Colonel Janus. Looking forward to learning more about the religion that was in before the takeover. From the glimpses we got the priestesses are rough and quick to kill. The Redeemers don't seem any better. I enjoyed the fighting scenes so far. (hide spoiler)]

Up to Ch. 9... I am a bit worried about (view spoiler)[ Winter's rocketing career rise - it will be easier for her secret to be discovered. Also, Sgt. Davis needs to get dead right away! I hate the thought of him being on our side with passion!

It's odd to realize that the main POV characters we're moving through this story with, the "good guys", are from the invading army and the "bad" guys are really just the people trying to defend their homeland against invaders.

Yes, the figure skating was great! I wish that Vincent Zhou's routines would have been televised. Everyone did really well.

I just finished chapter 3. I'm really liking Janus, he's funny. And Winter is interesting so far.

Yes, I thought about that, but for now at least, the way I understand it, they are acting on the side of the exiled Prince, so they have some minimal excuse...

Ooo, they were - I watched them all on NBCSN... I hate that they don't show them on the regular channel for all to see.


There is something about Janus, I hope we find out what is up with him:) He is a very interesting character.

Yeah, I only have regular network television. I don't really watch TV, so it doesn't make sense to pay for anything. Some of what they choose to televise is odd to me.

I finished it and I really liked it! I can't wait to get to the next volume! It was not as heavy of a read as the ones we have been reading, so it felt faster and easier to read. Glad we started this series:):):)

I'm now 50% in and it still hasn't grabbed me... I do enjoy Winter a lot and I do enjoy the hints of world building we got so far. However, I'm not sure I'll continue the series, unless something really changes. I will finish the book!

About halfway through and I really like it so far. I am not entirely sure on where I stand on the Janus is a strategic genius thing though.

Ah. NOW I get why I was feeling uneasy about Janus. He's a big picture kinda guy and his picture seems to be be "my goal is my goal and everyone else is cannon fodder." Effective, but unsettling.

Winter and Marcus are the ones doing the legwork on the ground and try to keep people alive, so I'm less inclined to go off on a tirade about their actions. Nevertheless Janus makes perfect sense as a character, especially for his setting. It's my more modernized sensibilities getting in the way if enjoyment I think.

(view spoiler)[The idea of a four thousand strong army dressed in undershirts and shirts and JACKETS apparently made for the same climate as the jackets back home and not dying out from dehydration is stretching my credibility meter a little. Also, you don't sweat in a desert. I mean you do but you definitely don't have sweat on you because it evaporates that fast. Hot and arid is different from hot and humid.

Not that I am not enjoying the book, mind you. I quite like all the characters and all of the writing. I'm a little leery about all the imperialism, but I realize that's a personal preference rather than a complaint with the story. Also I'm reading a book inspired by Napoleon I should not expect anything less.
