I LOVE that back story! That sounds like something I would like to read. Maybe you should try to write that out (even just as an outline or a short story) and that could give you ideas for the present-day story.

I really love your twist, Addy! I think it'd make a wonderful story :D
If you really want to stick with it, I'd recommend deciding first how you want to structure the story. Do you want to have it broken into two different time periods: the flashback, in which you talk about Alaka's story, or the present day, in which you talk about the British man? Or, maybe you could decide to just go about it chronologically; depends on you.

This sounds like an amazing idea! I think the whole retold fairytales are so popular right now, especially for the young adult audience because we grew up with those story and we're learning things weren't as true as they once were. Which can really resonate with some teens and be something to relate to. And who doesn't love hearing stories being retold with a new twist:D I say go ahead! you're idea sounds quite original:) and I agree with Ali that you should determine the structure, maybe get a notepad and just scribble down the facts from the original Alice in wonderland and see how the old story will work with the new. good lck with it! xxx
