Quantum (quantumkatana) Starting a new ms?
In a new genre?
Short stories?
Dipping into marketing?
Speaking engagements?

I've been outlining, developing characters, and the story universe for a litRPG (literary Role-Playing Games) (sub)genre. It's a sub-genre of science fiction in which the MC is trapped in an online game, usually fantasy-based like D&D in an MMORPG environment.

Leonie (leonierogers) | 1579 comments Currently finishing off a second book in the fantasy series I'm writing. Signed on the dotted line for the first one with my current publisher.

I also have sci-fi conspiracy that's been in progress for a couple of years, which I'm hoping to finish next year.

Then there's the short story I want to turn into a novel...

I loved playing D&D for about 10 years from 17 through to 27.

But I don't see the first one in your profile. Oh, do you mean that they bought your first one but haven't published it yet and now you're onto the second one?

I played some D&D, but was more into the hardcore military boardgames, Arab-Israeli Wars, 1776, Flat Top, Star Fleet Battles, to name a few.

message 6: by Graeme (new)

Graeme Rodaughan Hi Alex, all those things are a lot of fun.

Graeme Rodaughan After I finish The Dragon's Den in January 2018, I'll be doing a few things next.

[1] Cornelius Crane has an additional thread of action through books 4 to 6, which I need to design in.

[1.a] Complete design review (Scene definition) of The Day Guard (book 4) post step 1, and make it ready to write.

[2] Do detailed design on Book 5, and at least some of book 6 - it will be time dependent. I need to kick off Book 4 to ensure delivery by December 2018.

(Book 5 is an infiltration of a secret fortified fortress, capture/destroy a flag, than exfiltrate type scenario - and it's a difficult one to write with lots of research to do).

[3] Do a short horror story that has been percolating around in my mind for about a year - it's a twist on the Penanggalan REF: Wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penangg...

I really want to try my hand at genuine horror and see if I can do something credible.

I put online my 18th novel, A MINOR GLITCH, three weeks ago and have switched back to finish a half-done alternate history novel on WW2 that will be titled DARKNESS UPON EUROPE. It should be completed by early next year.

I have been playing RPG games for years with a few friends and love them. I am presently playing in two games, a Pathfinder one and a D6 game about a bunch of modern Marines transported back to 1940.

Hákon Gunnarsson | 17 comments I’m trying to write a superhero short story. It coming along nicely, but I’m not sure if I’ll write another one of this kind. :-)

message 10: by Philip (new)

Philip (phenweb) 2nd contemporary romance almost done - been saying that for weeks.
Semi-made up auto biographical collection of short stories I was going to write now being split into more made up novellas
3rd part of sci-fi space opera finally progressing
Starts or scenes for half a dozen others

message 11: by Quantum (new)

Quantum (quantumkatana) @_@ you all are so disciplined. I’m too spread out.

message 12: by Ian (new)

Ian Miller | 1857 comments I am giving up writing fiction until I finish my ebook on the chemical bond in terms of my guidance waves. Obviously not going to be a best seller, and maybe a worst seller, BUT I feel I have to archive this. The problem is in just polishing off the last issue, and then, of course, the dreaded editing.

message 13: by Segilola (new)

Segilola Salami (segilolasalami) | 405 comments I normally write children's books but last year I dipped my hands into paranormal romance under the name Elizabeth Salawu.

I have found that writing books for an adult audience so much more exhausting. It takes that much longer to complete a manuscript, compared to children's.

As if that was not bad enough, my characters were taking their merry time in telling me their story. Anyhoos, I've kicked them in the proverbial to get them talking. I used to just sit down and within a few days I have typed out the entire story but I don't think I can do that with longer books. It's so exhausting and demotivating.

I've written on my blog the parts of the story my characters have told me and I would really appreciate it if you can give me your honest opinion on what they have said so far

Ian Bott (iansbott) | 216 comments I used to love playing D&D ... waaaay too many years ago to recall :)

Finishing off my current WIP, a sequel to my first novel, and then I'm fleshing out ideas for a new story which I plan to start drafting early next year.

message 15: by Afiena (new)

Afiena Kamminga | 3 comments Right, let's take the plunge. I'm new to using this medium (OK, media, if you like) and hope that participating in this discussion group will be straight forward and not too time consuming for this techno-challenged writer, because I'll need all the time I can get to write my next book, sequel to my first historical novel published in 2014. Then again, I think this particular group offers a great opportunity to learn about what other writers are doing and how they solve assorted problems common to all working writers, and I hope that I may suggest for my part what I do about solving writing problems. I think that when writing a novel nothing beats exchanging views with other writers as a means to preserve some sort of life outside the fictional world we are creating. I mean, there sure's plenty wrong with the everyday world we live in, but I'd rather not give it up entirely in exchange for that other world deriving from my writer's imagination.

Take the plunge and write. Good luck to you. As an aside, you will find this group is really quite friendly.

Hi Ian, I wonder how many current writers have RPGs like D&D in their past. I suspect a few.

J.N. Bedout (jndebedout) | 104 comments Working towards #4 in my series. Once its done in late 2018 or early 2019, it's off to a new sordid tale that's marinating quite nicely.

message 26: by Matthew (new)

Matthew Williams (houseofwilliams) Well, okay, but you can't tell anyone :). I'm working on the sequel to The Cronian Incident right now, which was released in Sept 2017). If all goes according to plan, this book - titled The Jovian Manifesto - will be released in early 2018. I hope to do a third installment in the coming months. I also want to do some spinoff standalone books in the same universe. And after that, I was thinking about resurrecting a near-future idea I had awhile back that takes a look at the coming decades and how climate change and technological change will shape this century.

message 27: by Philip (new)

Philip (phenweb) Just put my second short contemporary romance out on Kindle.
Looking through my list of multiple parts of started WIP and struggling to be inspired.

Third part of sci-fi space opera most likely next project but who knows?

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

I again put my incomplete draft of DARKNESS UPON EUROPE on the backburner and switched to writing a sequel to my earlier THE LONE WOLF, which will be titled 'U-900' and will be another German submarine novel in WW2. U-900 should be finished by Spring 2018 or a bit earlier, then I may either complete DARKNESS UPON EUROPE, an alternate history of WW2, or work again on a pure sci-fi novel about the colonization of Mars, titled 'A MARS ODYSSEY', or write a sequel to my earlier time travel/alternate history novel 'SPACE-TIME ODYSSEY'. Right now, as you can see, I have plenty of ideas for new books, but not enough time to write them all quickly.

message 29: by Ian (new)

Ian Miller | 1857 comments I am now half-way through the worst part of the first edit of my chemical bond theory and should start to contemplate my next project, and somehow, for once, I haven't a clue what to write next. Unlike Michel, I seem to have no ideas whatsoever. Maybe that is because this editing is so mind-numbing. I shall have to wait and see.

I'm with you on the 'too many ideas and not enough time thing' Michel. I've been making tiny starts on things so I don't forget them! Now I have way too many 'tiny starts.'

And I thought I'd attempt to turn the Frontier Series into a screenplay at some point. Once I learn how to write a screenplay, that is...

message 32: by J.L. (new)

J.L. (julielbrown) I completed the first draft of the third book in my political thriller series in the middle of November. While taking a break, I've started my first standalone novel. I'm pretty excited about it, because it is a complete departure from what I have been writing.

J.L. (julielbrown) Michel wrote: "I have plenty of ideas for new books, but not enough time to write them all quickly."i>

I just said this to myself the other day. Although, for me, it's not insufficient time to write them quickly, but at all.
