Craig | 12 comments Looking for SciFi/Fantasy novel. All I can remember is the protagonist practices Aikido. Starts out as novice, develops skill etc. May have even been part of a series.

Aerulan | 1316 comments Only one I can think of that is explicitly aikido (rather than just general martial arts) is Helm but it's not a series.

ETA do you have any sense of how old the book is?

Craig, is this book for young adults (teens) or older adults?

Can you describe the location/setting - realistic Earth, country/region/big city/small town, fantasy world, another planet, etc.? What makes this a sci fi or fantasy?

Can you tell us more about the protagonist - gender, age, family/friends, personality, other skills/interests, etc.? What kind of challenges or crises does s/he face? Who's the bad guy?

A few long shots:
- 7th Sigma by Steven Gould? One Goodreads reviewer says, "Kimble is a smart kid who knows he'd rather be on the streets of the Territory than under the heavy hand of his drunken father. Then he meets Ruth, who is leaving a divorce behind to open a new dojo deep in the Territory... With an adult reckoning, incredible aikido skills, and a strong need for justice, Kim is an easy recruit for undercover work for the Territory Rangers."
- Something by Stephen Leigh?

Alan Stirling | 1 comments Late to the party here but is the book you are looking for Anvil of the Heart by Bruce T Holmes?

I came across you question when I was trying to remember the name of this book. I found it so I thought I would post up this potential answer.
