Ica Iova | 11 comments Hi, Annemarie, thank you for your interest. Here is a blurb and a small excerpt: LUKE MARSHAL, a brilliant doctor and wholehearted atheist, clings to the last dredges of a life shattered by grief when he meets EMMA COOPER, a gorgeous novelist, proud mother of 13-year-old SKYLER, and true believer that no man—besides God—deserves her trust.

Two bleeding hearts. One angel intent to bring them together.

Excerpt: The tightness in his chest squeezed. Again, he reminded himself to stop thinking of the past. He glanced down. About thirty feet of rocks before the powerful waves would swallow him.
It made sense. He and Sarah loved this place, and it would be the last thing he ever saw before he died. Would he soon be with his Sarah?
A nervous laughter bubbled in his chest at the wishful thought. If there were such a thing as life after death, surely Sarah would have found a way to come back to me. But she hasn’t, proving my point—when we die, that’s the end. Period.
He took a deep breath and a step closer to the edge.
“Don’t do it, Luke.”
He almost lost his balance in his rush to turn toward the crystal clear voice of a child, but there was no one. He scanned the surroundings. The only movement came from the seagulls making their inverted arcs, yet he thought he heard laughter—child laughter.
The sound of the water below had a hypnotic quality, beckoning him to bring his plan to completion. Luke shook his head and took another step. One more and everything would be over. A breeze whispered, tousling his hair in all directions.
Sarah’s image resurfaced, and he smiled. “You’ll never know pain until the wind blows your hair and sticks it to your lip gloss,” she’d said, fighting to keep the dark curls from her glossy, sticky lips.
“Why don’t you tie it back, or wipe off your lip gloss?
Her eyes had rolled slightly. “You’re such a guy. Why would I want to miss all this fun?”
Luke closed his eyes, inhaled a deep salty breath, held it, and then expelled it slowly. Memories of Sarah always brought mixed reactions, and he never knew if the next one would bring a hysterical laugh or an ambush of tears.
“You are too close to the edge.” Luke turned his head quickly to face a young girl, by his judgment, about twelve, perhaps thirteen-years-old. A sun ray bounced off the gold angel hanging from a thin chain around her neck. “Grandma says the ledge is not strong enough to hold a child.”
Luke opened his mouth to ask her how she knew his name, but her snappish tone stopped him. Surely, the voice he’d heard—if indeed he heard it—did not belong to her. There was no way she knew him or his intentions. This whole hearing voices…thing was likely in his head. He took a step back, and another toward her. “Your grandma…”
