November 2nd was the Day of the Dead (All Souls Day) and it is the 2nd to last month of the year.

We all know those series that we read the first book and really liked it and planned to go to the second book as soon as possible, well this is a challenge to see if those series were really all that. Read as many second books in a series that you've meant to get back to. Only need 2 continuing series to meet the challenge.

Levels, books read
2-3- A good start
4-6- Serious about new series
7-or more- Desperate to find the great series of the year.

I'm going to try for 4-6 books.
Right now the plan is
Swimming Without a Net (Fred the Mermaid, #2) by MaryJanice Davidson , Summoning the Night (Arcadia Bell, #2) by Jenn Bennett , Another One Bites the Dust (Jaz Parks, #2) by Jennifer Rardin , Havoc (Dred Chronicles, #2) by Ann Aguirre Night Blade (Colbana Files, #2) by J.C. Daniels

So far read
Buried Memory (Harbinger P.I. #2) by Adam J. Wright To Seduce a Sinner (Legend of the Four Soldiers, #2) by Elizabeth Hoyt Vicious Circle (Felix Castor, #2) by Mike Carey Embrace The Darkness (Guardians of Eternity, #2) by Alexandra Ivy Hooking Up by Helena Hunting

Wow, I have a lot more second in series that I didn't even think about.
Buried Memory (Harbinger P.I. #2) by Adam J. Wright , which I started today
To Seduce a Sinner (Legend of the Four Soldiers, #2) by Elizabeth Hoyt , which I finished today definitely will read the rest.
Vicious Circle (Felix Castor, #2) by Mike Carey , Trail of Dead (Scarlett Bernard, #2) by Melissa F. Olson , Force of Temptation (The Mercury Pack, #2) by Suzanne Wright , Embrace The Darkness (Guardians of Eternity, #2) by Alexandra Ivy

Which since 2 of them are on a recommend challenge, it was/is more likely for me to get to them. All of these and the ones above were really good or great in the first book I read.

I think my plan might be totally off. I went to my fictfact list after reading and starting the second in a series two times, two times and neither were the 5 I originally posted. Well I have, no kidding 40, 40!, series that I would consider continuing. Some just because people have said, "you've gotta try #2, it really takes off from there". To be fair, I would've never continued The Dresden Files if people hadn't kept pushing me and it really does get better. Still out of those 40 more, 21 are actually on my "really do want to read soon" list (no that list doesn't exist, it is only in my mind). Really probably should make a shelf....

I'm upping my goal to 8 since I've already... almost, I'm 75% through Buried Memories as it is a bit short,... got 2 done without even following my plan.

Good luck to everyone and welcome to the challenge.

Anyone else is welcome to join too.

Oleander | 22 comments I remember the 2nd Fred the Mermaid being better than book 1 but not by much. It's been awhile though.

They are cute fun reads. I'm 1/3 into the 2nd Fred book now. Was that one of the 5? I'm just going to post here the 2nd in series that I've finished because my plans above are shot.
Finished
To Seduce a Sinner (Legend of the Four Soldiers, #2) by Elizabeth Hoyt Buried Memory (Harbinger P.I. #2) by Adam J. Wright Embrace The Darkness (Guardians of Eternity, #2) by Alexandra Ivy
So far all of them are a little better than the first I read.
Reading
Swimming Without a Net (Fred the Mermaid, #2) by MaryJanice Davidson & Vicious Circle (Felix Castor, #2) by Mike Carey

Just finish
Vicious Circle (Felix Castor, #2) by Mike Carey
It was the first of my 2nds that I didn't think was as good as the 1st or better. It dragged to much with history and world building.

@Natalie- just post when you can.

Hard for me to update since I rely on my "read" shelf and it is missing more than 2/3 of my read in list. I finally found that I can use the yearly challenge view to see what I've read recently. So updated today though only found one more 2nd in a series that I've finished.
Hooking Up by Helena Hunting , if you like contemporary, it is really good.

So I finished 5 so far. Since Thanksgiving weekend is going to be full I might only get to a few more books and maybe not any more 2nds. I guess we will see.

How's everyone else doing? Any series you are going to stick with after the 2nd?
