Flamecaster (Shattered Realms #1) by Cinda Williams Chima - Restarting September 4th 2019
I am 110 pages in it took me awhile to get past page 26 but the story and characters are progressing well. I like it so far it is not as good as the last series but I still like it even after the first 26 pages.
I am 261 pages in and the story is just getting better even after the rocky beginning. The story is progressing at a really good pace not too slow or too fast the story is really good. Many horrible things have happened so the pace is going up but not at a too fast pace.
I am 345 pages in this story is developing more and is getting more interesting I really like how the story is progressing. The characters are interesting and well developed by this point I like both Jenna and Ash very much.
I am now finished with this book it was really good I liked most aspects of it other than the rock start. I enjoyed the fantasy elements of the story the magic and everything to do with that. I liked the main characters Jenna and Ash I also like their romance very much and hope for more at some point. So I really liked this book.

So I saw this BR go up and I'm ninja-ing myself in. This book just got to our library, and I was kind of wanting to read it. I've never actually read anything by Cinda Williams Chima before even though her books have been on my to-read list forever. I was really nervous to start this when I realized it's set in a world she's already been telling stories about -- I was afraid I'd get confused.I'm through Chapter two and I've been delightedly surprised so far :D
- Didn't expect the perspective shift at Ch. 3 but I'm looking forward to it
- I really like Ash so far; I love his archetype and I was pulled right into his story.
- Have had zero problems falling into the world even though I haven't read any other books by the author. Everything has built really naturally, need-to-know so we're not overwhelmed with exposition, but so far she's not assuming we know a whole lot.
Truthfully, as much as I love fantasy, and it's traditionally my favorite genre, I've been feeling really burned out on YA fantasy because it all has started to run together and feel the same. High fantasy in particular. Caraval being the notable exception :) But this one promises to be a standout in the tradition of Tamora Pierce and Mercedes Lackey, so I'm stoked to read the rest of it.
Ryn this is my first book by her as well. I dont seem to confused yet.
That makes me really happy. I'm reading The Triumphant too, which is the third in a series and it's been so long since I've read the other two that I keep feeling totally lost. Even when I read Six of Crows I was a little lost because I'd never read Shadow and Bone. But Flamecaster is quite marvelous this way.

I wouldnt be surprised if she kept that promise. She was very eager.
We need a like button on posts. So I'm reading like... five books right now and this one is probably my favorite, but I haven't had time to go forward today. I'll keep talking though as I get to it because I'm really excited to find out what happens.
I'm sorry I'm so far behind I'm just starting this now. I got a prescription for glasses because I'm apparently really badly near sighted and my glasses make everything up close blurry. They keep telling me I'll get used to it but it gives me headaches to read. I've decided I'm just going to take them off to read!

It's okay, I'm still reading it too and kind of slowly. But I am reading it so don't feel bad about posting "late" :D I need to get a comment up on it too.
To ch 12I really REALLY like this book so far, but for some reason I've been reading it very slowly. Heaven knows why, it certainly doesn't drag even a little. With this much action in the first eleven chapters, I don't even know what all she'll do in a book this size.
I will say that I kind of wish the chapters would start with a common date system. The time jumps have been a little confusing. I think I've sorted it out, but I would have liked to see some sort of timestamp to make it easier to keep track.

The scene where we take Lila's perspective threw me at first. I wasn't entirely sure what was going on for a while, and I will say that I still have an awful lot of questions about Lila and how she knows everything she seems to know. Apparently Ash misjudged her more than a little and I'm wondering who sent her.
And you're right, Courtney... I didn't even catch where Jenna got her boy moniker from.

@Tiera The book does have a map at the very beginning, and I have been told it was a spin off to the Seven Realms. I havent read that series and was able to understand this one okay though. I am totally down for book two. As for Jenna I think she might (view spoiler)
This is weird... I wrote a comment earlier and it doesn't appear to be here. It was about my book being a library copy so I couldn't see the map, but all the locations are kind of confusing. Of course I've never read a seven realms before -- they're on my list but haven't gotten to them yet. I'd be up for book two but not until closer to the end of the month -- packed full right now.
To Ch 22This section was a little harder for me -- I don't know if it's because I'm reading too many books and I'm getting confused about who is what is which or if it's because I'm not already familiar with the Seven Realms, but I definitely got mixed up in some spots, and I've had trouble keeping aaaaallll the characters straight.

Mostly I just want to curl up with this book for fun and ignore everything else :) If she ends as well as she begins, Chima has a new fan.

I got confused and some parts as well so maybe it is because we havent read the other series, but I was able to figure it out as the story went on.
