It was an older book from the library, sadly I don't remember the author or the proper title, but it was about Merlin.

So to the remembered scenes:
1. I think it started with Merlin's mother being visited by an angle/demon/incubus whatever and how he was glowing and how she became pregnant not soon afterwards.

2. Merlin is then seen as a boy playing with other children, only he manages to freak them out by making the ball float in midair rather than throwing it.

If I remember, the prose was so that there weren't any direct quotations, but I could be wrong.
