Yes it's mostly fantasy romance with a heavy emphasis on the romance 😋 I personally don't mind the whole male in pursuit thing that was going on. After all he has trained since age 5 for it 😂 he needs time in the book to deliver on his training.....😂

Well the book is quite big and we are only about halfway through. . Perhaps once the relationship between the leads gets cemented we will have more on that front?? There's a whole 50% of the book left so that's probably where shark will come in I guess. Also... The Queen of Calbernans' twin brother is the person who's in league with the villains? 🤔 Maybe I got the names confused not sure

I KNOOW! It's the traitor twin yep.
I don't mind the romance, I even enjoyed it quite a bit. Calbernans definitely know what they're doing. But it just felt repetitive to me in some parts.

And I just realized that we're only just halfway with the book after you said that! Wow. Maybe I am just being impatient because this is indeed fantasy romance and I'm pretty sure they will end up together.. it's just a matter of when and how

I really do love to know more about the siren's gift. And I agree that Chapter 8 was amazing!!

What doesn't sit right with me is why isn't summer trying to know more about the gift? Her siren voice?
She was so desperate a while ago that she was contemplating giving her life! And for the first time ever here is someone who has first hand knowledge about her gift. Shouldn't she try to find out more about the extent of its power, nature, how to control it, how to keep people safe from herself?
She's more focused about pushing away Dilys...which is ok fine....but get the knowledge you need to survive also.. Once he's gone 🤔

I found his uncle's reason to conspire with the enemy such rubbish! To further his sister's power and his own. What! Even if her son is killed in the process. The Queen would hardly survive it

And it seems like such stupidity to capture a sealord's lover and hold her hostage on the sea *facepalm* and on top of that the 3 women captured are weather mages themselves

Yes that makes sense seeing how he lost it when Gabriella insulted his parents and when she mentioned mother

It seems that there is more to Mur Balat and his agenda ..

And we're finally seeing Dilys' powers as the Prince of Calbernan here. He can talk with the sea creatures, add that to water manipulation (including blood). Poseidon in the flesh -this guy. (hide spoiler)]

I refuse to believe that those are the sisters. The 'burned beyond recognition' was too obvious a ploy. Their characters were too major in this story that they would not have died that way.. It must be some tactic to mislead them..

Well the infamous slaver who kidnapped them... is essentially a businessman.... Selling them for money and wealth makes sense...

(view spoiler)[ I think that Gabriella has a tendency to underestimate herself too much which eventually leads to self loathing and that is the main issue here. She blames herself for everything and thinks of herself as the worst. (Listen to Dilys sometimes will you, stubborn Summer)
Dilys, who believes in her more than anyone I think will eventually get her to see outside of herself. Tho the prince has his moments too - flashback to the almost harakiri moment back in Ch. 22 - (hide spoiler)]

Agreed ..I can't really say I like summer as a heroine a lot...yes ok she's justified and all probably..but still stubbornness has its limits

The fact that autumn and spring are alive is really no surprise since it's obvious the next books will be on them.
The twist of raising the goddesses at the end of the second epilogue is interesting. Mur Balat is certainly more powerful than any of the villains so far (definitely more than the two killed in this book) so will be a dangerous opponent.

How did you like the book? I really liked the story....just not the length....I wish it was more edited. The story seemed to drag on and on with their courtship and summer's continuous refusal. A little less would be have been better.

Also what did you think of the author's writing since it's your first book by her.

Her refusal were basically her throwing her insecurities around when it could have been a simple show and prove as demonstrated by Dilys. But at least her character overcame it in the end.

Is it just me or was she too overpowered at the end? I mean if there was a flaw in Calbernan's political system it's when you just hand off the throne to the next siren available :D Though she is the first one in many years, what if she had been who not she is and turned out a she-devil? Gah, there were too many loopholes and some of it felt forced.

I really hoped that it was one of the sisters who brought that ship down with her powers and ran off somewhere - lost and memories gone and ripe for another story. Obviously I'm wrong. It just had to be Mur Balat!! The darkness you mentioned in earlier posts lurks still ..

Wow for a read this long and by an author that I have never read before, it's safe to say that I got hooked because the world building is awesome and very detailed. I liked how the characters were presented and their accompanying gifts/talents and personality, even their customs! - that was the selling point for me. It was inspired of course by different myths but it doesn't take away the originality in how the author brought the world to life!

My only regret was how the story progressed. It was dragging. It could have been shorter and still be amazing.

Hahaha...true....but then again....the "bridehunters" who had extensively researched the seasons for Dilys did have a lot of info about her....so it's not like she's a stranger to them

yes when the second epilogue started I actually thought that maybe the sisters would have washed up on the shore or something after the ship exploded and sunk....and these people would have found her....and maybe the hero in our next book would be some powerful Tarzan - I mean Jungle Lord LOL :P

That is honestly what I thought before Mur Balat's appearance ....haha...I need to get a grip on my imagination :P

I know....I agree! The execution is where things went a bit awry :/
But when the Calbernans made their first appearance in Wintercraig....all decked up and ready to woo.....phew....pass me a glass of cold water please ;)

true that.....but then again maybe they had a lot of faith in their own mating customs and rituals ....such as that glowed ulumia (forgot the spelling)....that tattoos glowing all blue I mean....so they probably thought...all is well since it's gone according to norm. and their tattoos were all matching and Siren's calling to their mates etc going on.
