The names of the characters are quite unique – Dilys, Ari, Ryll. And I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't fantasy through and through ...

Yes I was really impressed by her! As also by the fact that in this society a man who has a sister and mother is stronger than another without (as indicated in the last confrontation between Dilys and nemuan)

Calbernans ruled the seas! There were no better shipbuilders. No better naval tacticians. And thanks to Calbernan seagifts, the oceans themselves obeyed Calbernan command. To confront a Calbernan on the sea was suicide. Or so it had been for millennia.

It was a great introduction to another world. I really love how they focused on the women and their much more proactive role in the kingdom! The mother's love and the queen's duty really made an impact.

The chapters focused mostly in the courtship - Gabriella's repeated declarations of refusal and Dilys' unrelenting pursuit. I could have gone without hearing one more of Dilys' ''we were trained since we were boys...'' Tho I think I'm just ranting because I have read quite a few chapters and there's that feeling that something shifted in their relationship and me thinking that the story is finally moving - then you get pulled back. GAH! It was maddening. And the supposedly antagonist (the shark?) of the story is getting a bit sidelined I think. Not much has been going on in that front so far that I have stated to forget about him ... (hide spoiler)]

I think I will be a bit busy tomorrow so I've read as much as I can tonight :)

From what I remember... Which isn't much...he was this really scary ruler of the north or something.... dangerous and scary and exceptionally powerful kind of person....he was the hero in the first book

And khamsin....the other sister they mentioned in this chapter but we didn't get to see....was the girl in the first book

Yes the sisterly affection is amazing! But I was getting kind of bored... Spring was so repetitive! She was obsessing...and I get that's her nature...but made me want to eye roll :P

Spring is indeed the mother hen of the bunch!
Out of the three I was somewhat drawn to Autumn tho. Summer is a bit too good to be true and Spring is a bit uptight and strict so I'll stick with the mischievous one
