all characters need quirks and flaws to be made individuals. some can have a penchant for sweets ( case in point: heechul ) or for blowing things up ( hansa ). and then some have flaws such as being emotionally detached ( louisiana ) or being exceedingly introverted despite needing to be otherwise ( holden ).

some of these just happen with characters, and that's great bc it means they're developing nicely. but sometimes you kinda wanna think on it. i'm gonna go back to johnny as an example of this. if you see his brainstorms, he seems pretty flat as a character. however, he's since been fleshed out with quirks and flaws

some of these were done through collaboration and just headcanons bc those are always fun. but it required some thought about his character and how he interacted with others, there'll probably be more to add to this as time goes on and i roleplay him more in the group, but he's already become quite developed.

on another note, mental/physical illnesses and disabilities are not quirks or traits. they are ailments that affect your character. how they deal with them shows growth and development, but it is not all they are.

on several occasions, i've made characters with mental afflictions, such as paranoid and delusional schizophrenia, ocd ( which is not to be mistaken/interchanged with being a perfectionist ), and minchul adds hpd to the list. minchul, for the most part, does work around his disorder, but the big thing is that he knows something is wrong, but he doesn't see much of a way around it. that's how he's dealing with it currently: giving in/not seeking help/just getting by. everyone likes following trends. i mean who doesn't? trends are nice and they pave the way; no deep thought required. the problem is, trends lead us into a creative trap of stagnancy and droves of almost carbon copy characters. we're not near that here lol but it's still good to know to avoid.

i'll use the selected as an example, since we have a nice variety there, i think.

a lot of the selected are there for the prince. that's great. then there are selected like aech's heejin who's there only at the urging of her parents. gerin's nerissa who has it out for the royals and hey this would bring her closer to them. kaya's tiare is here more so to test her abilities to socialize and whatnot. all solid characters with good motives. but let's look a little deeper into their personalities.

tiare is stubborn, but easily drained by social interactions. nerissa is intelligent and conniving. heejin is also stubborn, but doesn't do things half-heartedly. tiare and heejin may have a similar trait, but they're done very differently.

but here's where the trends kick in for a lot of the selected: the father.

some selected have great relationships with their parents and that's great. some have absent fathers ( arya's elle ), and some have fathers that have died ( denver's quinn, aurora's birdy ) and then some who just so happen to hate their fathers ( ash's roy ). parental deaths are interesting plot devices when you make how the characters deals with different from others. hating your parents is not so common, but not always without reason. the problem here is the tragedy effect and how it can ripple through all of your characters.

one character hating their parent, with one parent dead, or with a great relationship is good. two is okay. three of your own in that sort of situation is too much and you should probably address that.

what i'm trying to get at is this: trends within characters in a group can be good if there are a) variations and b) not one every three characters. trends within characters of your own are not so great. you can have more than one hardcore character or that are super soft.

SARANG'S DOMAIN is not without its perculiarity. It can be seen as a void space surrounding a seemingly endless path that leads to the steps of a temple. The architecture is ever changing, perhaps to represent the changing views of whoever enters it, but the premise of its design is the same: that one may be in for an experience of holiness. The inner design of the temple, however, are vastly different from their outside. Instead of high walls and opulent columns as one might see while stepping through the doors, they find themselves in a simple place of domesticity.

a delight; a blight. a blessing; a curse — there's always varying opinions about the ( currently ) silver-haired young man swarmed by bodyguards, lovers, or something in between. just the same way they seem to have their doubts, or maybe even the fantasies, about him. he's intrigue and the obvious all wrapped in one and no one can ever really decide which part they like best. not the lucky ones, at least. just as the Operator ( "Ollie," he'd sigh, almost wistfully and with a wink ) has his Affliction, so does Sarang have his own plague — his love and affection. it's funny, really, the form it takes on. giddy teenagers with an affinity for emotional turmoil seeing one poor victim of this disease perpetuated its existence as something fictional. not that he really minds; they love it, and by extension, him. because just as his disease spreads, so does his desire to be loved. or well, at least to be smothered in the devotion.

PERSONALITY
Moonhyun isn't known for making Good Decisions. But he's not known for their twin sister, Bad Decisions, either. He's the sweet spot in the middle that flirts with both on a daily basis and sometimes one or the other comes out on top. It's usually a toss up on which one, dependent on how much risk he's willing to take. How much he knows his parents will allow. Being the second child is one thing, but being the second child and heir to a conglomerate is a whole other monster that Moonhyun would rather not deal with. He has aspirations, but not the kind his darling parents would approve of. Like teaching, for example. He doesn't come off as the type to do so. The ever spoiled rich kid that has had the world laid at his feet is certainly not someone you would expect educating the minds of the future. Or someone you would really want near your spouse.

Well, maybe not entirely standard; he'd been held for ransom once or twice ( his parents never paid and people learned their lesson ).

If ever there was a person who embodied the word extra, never have they fit as well as Jin-seong. Like literally. There's an Urban Dictionary article about him and he's in half the entries for the term extra. He's not sure if it's an accomplishment, but he'll take it. Fans are pretty appreciative, considering how extra he is with his fanservice.

And he thought it would be a fun concept, so why not go along with it? He's managed to capture the hearts of fans, but apparently it wasn't enough because now he's on The Unit representing his group. At least now he'll have more chances to put his great sense of humor to use.

Most people who watch The Unit to see Seongsoo watch it to see him fail. Because everyone likes to watch people think they can do something only to stumble and fall, right? Especially when he used to be part of the gumdroppy boy group Honey ( the Bees are not a force to be trifled with, as he well knows ). There wasn't exactly any love lost between he and his group members, but the Bees can't seem to forgive him for "ditching" them when it was a company decision that he have a solo debut. He just wanted to be a singer and entertain people. And not have his food stolen.

And while the internet might be full of memes of him doing questionable things for Klondike bars ( they're creative; he'll give them that ), he likes to think some people actually like him. Maybe. Possibly. He hopes?

To the Neons, Yoo Mi comes off as the tomboyish one of the group, the one who might actually fit the concept of a hip hop group best. There are plenty of clips where the members jokingly call her "oppa" and she responds like it's the most natural thing. Because that's what it's come down to. But it isn't uncommon either to see her solo stans dubbing an international stargirl. The effortless ( in actuality it takes some work, let's be real ) way she seems to enchant the audience during performances makes for her to be proclaimed all too fitting of her stage name.

Unfortunately, Yoo Mi has also had a few brushes with dating scandals that could have been, her naturally flirtatious disposition being the source of it all. Fortunately most see this as part of her concept and those dating rumors stay as they are: rumors to keep her group in the public eye.

You know how your parents warn you about people just using you for
their own gain? Yeah, she might have forgotten that speech.

Some people are too trusting for their own good. Hyang-ki, for example, trusted in the process by which she'd been set to debut as half of the duo Friday. She trusted that their abilities would shoot them into relative fame, even if they were dancers first and foremost. She trusted that the concept she was given ( the opposite of herself ) would go well with their fanbase. She trusted all of these things just as she trusted in Friday being merged with another group of trainees, becoming a five-piece group. And when that flopped, she somehow still had the strength to trust in their ability to return to the industry as a duo.

On the plus side, she's had a lot more time to watch fan reactions to Friday's music videos and live stages. That's something she trusts in: the ability of their fans to keep them going. And maybe they'll do so while they're part of The Unit.

You might be wondering how a college student with all the potential in the world could have ended up as a paranormal investigator. See, Seokyu wonders about that same thing, because this is anything but what he'd pictured he'd be doing when he was, like, five. ( He'd wanted to be a fireman ). In fact, it's hardly something he really considered doing until six months ago. Everything about his line of work is tedious but also somewhat satisfying. Except the screaming; he could do without his throat being sore from the shrieking.

Honestly, considering how bad he is with anything remotely scary, it's a wonder he put himself in this line of work so willingly. His daily questioning of his life choices usually gives way to a subtle reminder that he's doing this because he wants to. There's a sense of satisfaction that comes with knowing he was right about a hunch or the thrill of being wrong. That, and this was sort of entrusted to him. How is he supposed to turn down the purported dying wish of a professor he'd come to see as a second mother? At least, he can't be sure she's dead; he's come to learn that not everything is as it seems, and she was much the same.

KEY's probably one of the more unassuming vices. Should he venture outside of the realms of the house, it's only to eat his usual pie and dine in the presence of others. People who are, effectively, disturbed and somewhat used to watching him nearly clear out their stock before he has the good sense to wander over to another diner to repeat the cycle of eating. There's not much more to him, either. Just...eating. Sometimes he might indulge one of the various other things that fall under his domain of gluttony, but not too often. Unless he's doing it for food; there's not much he wouldn't do for food. Or anything that would come close to food ( this would, yes, include fingers if you have them too close to his mouth. He might mistake them for fries or something and not bother to tell the difference in taste, as some poor souls could attest to ).

y'all can find my brainstorms here. i have at least two-three characters on each team, so that's plenty of material to work through :)

/ first and foremost i have a snake on the blue team. minhyuk tends to come off as a bright person that most can get along with, but it says that she's fed up with men. so from what i can think of, he might try to befriend her or just leave her alone
/ jongin is decidedly not a good match for her. the only thing i can think of is them being enemies from the start
/ josiah might try to befriend her, but he's not gonna be pressed about her not liking him
/ jinhyung is likely to be the same as above.
/ haneul is pretty upbeat and out there and she'd probably try to keep your adeliade in shape/help her out when needed so definitely on friendly terms?

[ holland fc ]
/ paithoon is on this team and he's very skittish. he probably wouldn't get along with her well, but i don't think they'd be enemies. at least not from her perspective
/ sooman might try to lead her on at one point, and if it doesn't work, he'll kinda just drop her.
/ sanghoon might try to get along with her based on just not seeming suspicious. he's trying to win, but he's also on the run and the possibility of him being outed is raised if people start thinking badly of him early on.

/ she seems highly susceptible to minhyuk tricking her, so there's that. he might use her as a source of entertainment.
/ jongin might take pity on her for .2 secs before deciding whether or not she could be an ally or enemy. your call on how that turns out

/ jinhyung isn't too pressed for friendships, but he might help her out here and there.

/ alright so seokie's the resident soft boy of the green team and he gets along pretty well with everyone i think. so he'd probably be good friends with her. not to mention he scares as easily as she does so they have that in common
/ dae hee is on green and for a little bit he'll be pretty nice. he has some rituals of threes he does to placate his ocd so he has like some understanding of her anxiety since if he doesn't do the rituals he'll have a panic attack. however, he will be off his meds at some point in the rp, and he kinda changes drastically. he's also gonna be messed with by timmy and roman so he probably won't be friendly for long
/ raquel might try to life coach her, since that's kinda what she does. she won't go too out of her way to do it though
/ rim is pretty flirty, but also really hardcore. she's big on the goddess religion, which basically exemplifies women as divine beings so she prolly pushes for your girl to be more confident and less anxious

/ minho would likely not take kindly to her, since he doesn't for pretty much the entirety of the team
/ elias could be a fan? idk how famous you intend for her to be. but he'd be nervous around her regardless bc she's an actress

People love Xavier, Xavier loves people. It works out great, except for a few things. For one, people seem to think he can fix all their problems, or help them get his life together. He's got this soothing quality about him that seems to give off some kind "I have the answers!!" vibe, but he doesn't. He's just a touch judgemental ( when really...he has no place to be judging ), but not enough that people are immediately turned off from his haphazard advice. Just enough for him to side-eye someone and say "I told you so" ever so softly and pretend he never said it. And for whatever reason, he's been designated the "Ask Xavier" with some tacked on credentials that don't apply because, for the last time — his major is history, specifically the history of US ( he's got a fucking thesis going on about New Orleans, for Christ's sake ), and his minor is anthropology. No psychology there, folks.

Xavier's a bit of a free-spirit, and doesn't really like the notion of being limited in what he can do. Which is why people seem a little confused with him, and what he's into. Usually ranging from anything as simple as would you prefer chocolate or vanilla? or something like if he's dating that guy he was with two parties ago, or the girl from last week. The greatest advice he could ever give you could come from answering those with: "Don't worry about it." Because it's not paying your tuition is it? It's worked for him, considering he's always gonna have that "East Riverside" brand on him as long as people know his face ( which, he's absolutely going to own ).

Julian is....something. Sometimes a good something, sometimes a bad something, but he's without a doubt interesting. Julian or Jaehyun or whatever you want to call him has never strayed away from being particularly extra. He's over the top in most of what he does, and that can be enticing enough. Except when he tries too hard and somehow gets fired. He's never been sure why, but the longest he's ever been employed has been three months, an ongoing record with his bartending gig. He's not too sure how much longer it'll last, but fingers crossed. However, just like anyone else, he has some dreams and aspirations. One of those being photography. Not the nature kind or the ones that have little showings around town. He wants to be big name, the kind you look at the work of and just know who it is. And in order to do that, he's got to have money to pay for his equipment. Which goes right on back to him needing a multitude of jobs to keep himself fed, clothed, and sheltered while getting all that extra fun stuff.

But probably one of the thing that doesn't mix well with extraness is how petty he can be. Those small, trivial things you don't think about? He's got them all in mind and waiting to use for whatever argument he needs. And he most certainly keeps records of certain things; he's got a good memory for this sort of stuff. Just like he's got a good memory for every life hack that has ever worked. How do you think he keeps up with being an actual aesthetic while working so hard? Simple: life hack king. She doesn't hate her parents - that'd be like hating an extension of herself, or a part of her. But she is a teenage girl. One who's soft and mushy and damages easily. One who still wants that centuries old concept of someone sweeping her off her feet and riding off into a nice sunset. But we all can't have what we want. (hide spoiler)]

The Yangs are...esteemed, one would say. They've got a fair bit attached to their name and maybe that's why it's so easy to see them as politicians. Or maybe that was before they actually became just that. Before Elise's mother decided that being the chairwoman of a big corporation wasn't enough, they had their hand in politics. Elise's father had been in several political campaigns as a director and almost a running mate; they thought they had this politics thing down enough. And, they proved that they did.

Now Elise knows no other life than being top tier. She knows nothing else aside from being among the elites, and as someone stuck in this brooding cycle of greater and better persons, she was expected to be the same. Her interest in the digital space could be used - was used - by the parents who invested in her growth and soon enough they had to think that they had made a better version of themselves to pass on to the next generation. But she was a Yang and what better does a Yang do than argue and debate, delay and then renegotiate? Which was how she got to where she is now, hiding in plain sight to take down the forces that be - her parents included.

Ai's too nice. A great big ball of that cannot be contained. Not by her parents, and certainly not by the tattooed, brawny bodyguards who are meant to watch over her. She's predictably unpredictable to anyone that has ever know her, but to strangers she's a wild card and no one quite knows what to do with those, really. In a way - she's spoiled. Way too spoiled. She's used to turning people to putty in her hands and keeping them eating of her palms. Is it the energy? Is it the way she seems to feed into the calls for attention people make?

She wouldn't say she's a bad person. Her parents wouldn't say she's a bad child. ( Of course they wouldn't; she's their little girl. ) Ai's got these principles ( some contradictory to the nature of the life she leads ) and she likes to stick to them. If she's going to be any sort of humanitarian, it doesn't do her much good to be a lazy hypocrite, now does it? But it doesn't mean she won't make friends with people who are, sadly, just that.

★ the lees have a long history. sometimes they boast imperial blood and sometimes they don't; it depends on who's listening. most of the time it's to dazzle regular citizens that want a picture with a diplomat or someone that looks a lot like a celebrity. or for people that think it would be a good idea to test them.
★ there are dark dealings in the family, but clean hands persist; it's the one policy they've lived by and what keeps them on the good side of the law. ai is no different. and this makes it very hard for certain authorities to connect them to anything. not even a tattoo could give them away. the courts have been trying for years to get something that could used as evidence, but alas - they continue to fail.
★ "school is important" - ai's family does hold an impressive listing of alma maters. her attending constance was meant to add to the list, not cause them grief over the drama. or well, have them in tears from laughing at the dealings of her classmates while they remained blissfully innocent.

Du Hui is....well. As the son of prominent actors in some of the largest cinematic industries, it was bound to happen that he’d find his way into the limelight himself. As well as having the combined arrogance of both his parents. It's almost like he absorbed every last bit of it they had. And it's not like he hasn't earned is fair share of accolades; he's a talented young man and no one has ever doubted that. It's just...he hasn't hit that potential yet. That star power. But hey, you gotta act like you already are where you wanna be, right?

Henly, as he's allowed his Western friends to call him, is usually not so bad to be around. Take out the arrogance and the seemingly endless chatter, he's a joy. But he expects everyone to think as much. Who wouldn't wanna be around a guy with awards under his belt already? An actual teen heartthrob for home-based and international fans? Breaking: Heir to Wang Tech And Fashion Empire Set to Attend Constance Billard Academy

On Monday, it was announced that Wang Xinyi, the seventeen-year-old currently second in line to the tech side and first for fashion, would be attending the elite private school Constance Billard Academy. The announcement came shortly after the odd-pair mogul family introduced a new line of products catering to the working class, which sparked added interest to talks of them potentially merging with several smaller companies.

The family has been known for capitalizing on prime connections, including deals with companies like Sony and Google, as well as designer brands such as Vera Wang and Louis Vuitton. Xinyi is set to be a junior in the prestigious academy, known for its wealthy and connected students. In a short statement, the young man in question stated that he was "hopeful to improve his communication skills." Xinyi is famed for his somewhat exaggerated reactions to other celebrities, including the ever loved video of him meeting idol TingTing of TFX outside of a fan-sign event.

Xinyi's elder brother had almost attended the same academy, but ultimately decided otherwise in favor of a speedy graduation at a school in Shenzhen. As is usual with the rivalry of brothers, Tao has stated on numerous occasions that his brother needed to grow up and "get from under their mother's skirt" and has been sourced as saying his younger brother's attendance will do him good, as the family seems to think collectively. It's no secret that the two brothers, or well Tao with Xinyi, about the matter of the younger's antics and apparent presence on "stan" social media such as Twitter and Instagram. Just last week, the older called out his brother's behavior as being girlish, in regards to a particular concert outing in which the younger invited other lucky fans into his booth — free of reimbursement to "celebrate the debut stage of their loves" (the loves in question were a six-piece co-ed band, NE.ON).

Xinyi, even before such displays, had developed a sort of underground following on most social media accounts. Many of his postings were also well received as relatable while highlighting his poor communication ability and general anxiety that he continuously hopes to overcome. If he's not asking for help with interactions, followers of his social media may also see numerous pictures of flowers and art such as sculptures. He's known to post daily about different flower meanings to brighten his and his followers' day.

There's speculation that he may attend the academy with a bodyguard or be paired with a "buddy" under the direction of his father, who fears the school may be too much for him.
