WHILE our Jinwoo is not known as the face of Tempest, if you've ever heard the rock group on the radio, chances are you've been exposed to particularly loud and heinous — obnoxious if we're being kind — laughter belonging to him. Not everyone can have the good fortune of a laugh almost as nice as them. Most would describe him as a big ball of energy, or at least a big ball of screams, considering a good number of videos around the web are compilations of him screaming. And if he's not screaming, he's usually the one behind the adlibing on several tracks. His vocals may not be the best, but we love his love of the music no less. In fact, it seems like that and his bandmates are all that he really cares about. There hasn't been a single interview where he hasn't mentioned Tempest band members by name or something about them that he admires.

Unfortunately, his vocal nature has lead to a few scandals. One such being that he found himself getting kicked out of a movie theater for noise disturbance and disruption. Apparently, moviegoers had thought he might actually be dying, and when the paramedics arrived there was quite a scene when they figured out nothing was wrong with him. ( Of course, the movie in question was said to be a top rated horror movie that had been extensively reviewed for being borderline hazardous to viewers. We guess his dying screams were warranted, in this case. )

Jinwoo is not know for being a particularly good secret keeper, mostly because of his "we have no secrets" motto to any question that has the word "secret" in it tends to give off that sort of vibe. However, some fans have noticed that Jinwoo is very positive about the abilities and success of other members, he doesn't talk much about his own. One netizen on a pann thread speculated that he might be feeling inferior to the others, but that was quickly disputed and pushed under the rug.

a grunge photoseries of city life from the perspective of the disenchanted

Alden Cowell's international photoseries has found its newest location, and one of the hottest subjects. Pictured above is the famed Park Mina, twenty-six year old main vocalist and dancer of the South Korean girl pop group, Adonis. Cowell says she didn't talk much during their shoot which took them around the city of Seoul, but when she did she sounded "tired". Which works out perfectly for Cowell considering the subject matter. When asked about other aspects of her person, he said that she, "was fairly indifferent, but did offer up suggestions if she felt inclined to." The singer is often noted for being stand-offish or coming off as particularly contemptuous, as per one variety show appearance where she remained unmoved by the antics of the cast and her group mates.

Park recently posed for Marie Claire in a beautifully simple concept that was apparently of her own conception. Cowell said he posed a question about this and another possible collaboration, but was given no definite response on the matter. Regardless of the coldness of the model in question, Cowell's series turned out to be quite stunning.

The idol may not have supplied much information about herself, but her fans certainly did. At one point during the shoot, Cowell says a gaggle of fans approached them with cameras and questions ready. Some fans inquired about her health, but were dismissed with both thanks and reassurances that she was fine. The same could be said for allegations of leaving the star-studded group, but her answer was a lot more cryptic: simply a smile. Cowell says he got a picture of the moment, which is also featured in the gallery. As per Cowell's initial feelings, there's something both tired and determined in her smile that gives off a hint of something foreboding — like maybe idol group Adonis is doomed to lose a member, as has become so common in long standing groups.

  A spy is a spy is a spy. Or, to put it simply, a spy is a faceless, nameless thing at the disposal of a directing force. That is what Hannie is, has always been. His life is a mixed bag of identities and people that he will always and never be. His current persona is that of a happy-go-lucky, sweet boy next door that wants only to please. And to some extent, that could be the real him. Or might have been at one point. He can't really tell all that much these days who's who. But so long as he remembers his purpose and where he is, he'll be fine.

Most people would kill to be where he is. Hannie has already. Not that he had much choice; they were casualties of war. That's what he's told himself when he reads their names off a worn sheet of paper in the morning. It was just how the game was played; winner gets another day and loser says goodbye. Hanbin doesn't think of himself as a particularly bad person — then again, who does? He's made some questionable choices, but he knows they had to be made. It was him or them, and he went with the basest of choices.

What matters, though, is that he's here and he's been given a direction to follow.

As she would have everyone believe. She feeds off the notion that people have come to accept her facade as the truth, really. She enjoys tricking those around her into the trap that is her sweet smile and soft words, the projected weakness that they long to see. And she takes advantage of this at every turn. By the time someone awakens from the blissful dream she's shown them, they're living a nightmare.

Maybe that was why so few have left her. A mother who remains unaware and a father with a growing inkling; a brother who wised up and couldn't be held. She's not bitter about him. They weren't blood, but they felt like it. It hurt, but not enough for her to be anything other than disappointed. At first. But as time passed the disappointment turned into a festering wound of betrayal. They said forever and she had expected him to keep his promises.

Her joining the Selection is no half-baked attempt to fulfill the mundane fantasy of being a princess. Oh no; she was already a queen before her application was put in. It was only the thought of broadening her domain that really went behind it. Not to mention her hunting ground. With a hunger matched only by a friend she could easily have forgotten if not for how much he understood, the Selection was the perfect place to survey new areas. To sample new dishes, and maybe contribute to watching things fall apart around her.

  Jang Minchul has a problem. One both easily solved, and not. He craves attention in the worst sort of way, almost like he needs to breathe. But he's not good at asking. In fact, he's terrified. Terrified of what people would think of an adult such as himself stumbling over his words as he asks to be praised. The thought alone has been the source of several breakdowns — in the middle of conversation. What better way to get attention than to bawl your eyes out? And the shame that comes afterwards to chase that fulfillment? Disgusting is what he wants to think, but bliss is what he gets.

No one's ever going to say that Minchul wasn't loved as a child. He was spoiled rotten with his other siblings. Attentive parents that bent over backwards to make sure he had everything he needed and more. But it wasn't entirely enough. They couldn't give him their undivided attention when the bills piled up and needed to be attended to. They couldn't give him their utmost enthusiasm when they dragged themselves off to bed after a long and tiring day. They could tiredly assure him that he did good in their harmless, half-hearted way. But he would always mistake it for lack of care in contrast to his siblings, who were given what he thought much better responses.

Maybe that's what lead him to seek attention wherever he got it. The batting of the eyelashes and the soft little smile that screaming look at me; look at how cute, how handsome. And when he realized the hole he was finding himself in, he had already given in. But it came too easily and left just the same. Someone new, someone cuter, someone handsomer was around the corner to steal attention. A tantrum, a fit? He wasn't a child anymore. He couldn't do that. Instead, he did what he could to hold that light over him a little while longer and broke each time someone turned away.

Iseul is one of those people that you know shouldn't have any insecurities, but they do. He has plenty, for whatever reason ( or maybe he's just not telling anyone why ). But he shouldn't. When he works as hard as he does and follows through, you'd think everything would be going perfectly for him. Okay, so maybe he's a terrible cook, but in his defense his mother and older brother did a good job of keeping food in the house while the rest of the family worked. And maybe he gave up on the idea of learning after he burned a pot because he let the water dry out. That is something to be marginally insecure about, right?

It could be that people tend to think of him as not being the brightest, but that's just with insanely simple things. He overthinks those and gets himself in a tizzy. The real complicated stuff — a breeze. It's not surprising, considering he was educated in a fair amount of complex concepts like astrophysics and thermodynamics. The perks, really, of being close enough to top notch university that you can sneak into classes. But, still, it could be his family that are the source of these insecurities. What's a guard to diplomats, professors, and all-around gifted individuals?

  Henrietta is, to say the least, somewhat of a pushover. Being the middle child between two assertive siblings tended to not go quite in her favor, but she developed an almost maternal sense through this. She doesn't pride herself in how easily she acquiesces to puppy dog eyes asking for another piece of candy, but she's not displeased. Hen tends to sugarcoat difficult topics ( "a spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down" ) and sometimes it might not just be for the sake of the other person. One wouldn't describe her as fragile, to be exact, but there are some thing she'd rather not deal with. On the occasion that you do somehow get her to the point of upset, it's not uncommon for her to break her no swearing policy. And a few well-placed hits to the ego are to be expected.

  At first glance, one might think that something terrible has befallen Jae. And it's not entirely wrong, but still mostly — it's because he's away from Darcy. And who's Darcy, you might ask. His plush, white Scottish Fold that he loves and adores. Jaehyun could, at the moment, care less about someone or something other than Darcy and being away from her tends to give him anxiety. Is she playing well? Is she eating? Does she have enough water? It's not uncommon to see him sneaking her into the stables just to have her around. She's a constant companion, one who's never abandoned him. He can't say the same for some people in his life. If people are being entirely honest about their observations, he treats Darcy like she's his daughter.

To be fair, Jae hasn't really had much luck with people sticking around. Important people, that is. Like his fiancee. But that's a whole other story that he doesn't want to ever really get into. And he would never say it's her fault, but he's not as good as connecting with people anymore. Something he should move on from? Probably; but, she was the love of his life and what are healthy coping mechanisms anyways. So, instead, he pours all his love and devotion into someone he knows at this point would never leave him: Darcy.

Very gently. For whatever reason, some patients tend to be skittish around him. He's admitted it on multiple occasions that he's always confused by this. He's a good doctor. He knows what he's doing. He might seem a little baby-faced but don't get hung up on that! Just trust him.

He's always been a particularly quiet person, even as a child. He wasn't the social butterfly his sister was, but he still made due. And that continues today. He doesn't see it so much as having friends as what everyone is doing as having acquaintances and the two just aren't the same. So he's content to have just a handful of people he can call his friend. Besides, even if someone tried coming on to him, it's not like he'd fully understand what they wanted from him.

pros : holden has the good fortune of being just one more face in a line of royally employed jewelers. he's not one to complain; he's lived a good life with this heritage. and on top of that, he can actually contribute in more productive ways. like suggesting jobs for the lower caste and finding ways to boost the economy. does he always get it right? no, but at least he's trying. he's shaped much of reputation, and even education, around helping those of lower castes and he likes to think it's having some impact. and even if it does, it's not enough. not really.

You might be curious as to how someone so young could be in any way useful to a rebellion. Well, when your older brother is the head guard of the palace, obviously you have some use. If you can sneak mostly unnoticed ( sometimes the shifts are switched up and that sweet spot to sneak in is suddenly gone ), obviously you have some use. But Seunghyun doesn't see it that way. He's been guided — beguiled, really — into thinking that the rebellion ( the northerners; he's too scared of the southerners to be part of their bunch ) was the right cause. That they would be victorious, and that he'd be on the right side of history. But that's not even what got to him. What did was the reassurance that his family would be on the right side of history and that they'd live happy lives. Who wouldn't want that? And with the way the Oh family sticks together, why wouldn't he jump at that?

He wants nothing more than to be as great as his older brother. Oh Seungwoo. Ain't he the coolest? He could go on for hours, maybe even days, about the many things his brother is so cool at. He's his hero, his role model, and you'd think a kid could grow out of a fixation like this by the time they were twelve, but nope. He's as close to starstruck as he could be whenever he sees his brother. Head guard? Maybe he could be like that, if things fall through with this rebel. ( Which, it won't because obviously they're gonna win, right?" )

At first glance, Tamerand is not exactly who you think she is. Sly smile, coy tilt of her head. Most people assume that she's not anything else but a spoiled rich girl who just so happens to get wild and make her mother pay for it. You can look beyond her for that. ( Honestly, she's not surprised Ourea has taken on that title; she is her mother's daughter, after all. ) Tamerand is what everyone used to think a rich girl was: sweet, polite and a little reserved. She's not one for the extravagant things in life, but it's how she's been brought up.

She's probably one of the smartest people you could encounter. Just because she's a little confused now and then doesn't change that. Tam, or Randy ( she doesn't really mind ), doesn't always get the things that some would deem street smarts. Not, really, at least. She understands the theory of it, but she can't always wrap her head around it. That's partly why she's so skeptical of all those life hack posts she sees around.

There's a lot that this particularly sheltered girl would like to know. And some things she just doesn't care for. But mostly, she just wants to know how she ended up in the darn Selection.

One of the greatest mistakes someone could make is approaching Genghis. He might look a little forlorn or like he doesn't wanna be somewhere, but that shouldn't give you a reason to talk to him. Chances are he's probably killed off everyone in the room in his head about ten times over in the span of the time you've been staring at him. He's anything but how soft he looks.

There isn't any particular reason that Genghis is a rebel. He doesn't care about the royals; they can do what they want so long as they don't fuck up his life. He doesn't care about equality or caste systems; it's a waste of time. He doesn't really care about which rebellion he sides with, but — he's tried the northerners, and they couldn't exactly handle his brand of crazy. The angry, fist through a wall, uncontrollable rage kind of crazy. They were equipped so he found himself with the southerners, and while he's still as angry as could be, at least he could beat someone to death and not worry about the consequences.

Hansa — ahem, Henry — doesn't mean any harm. Really, he doesn't. The man is simply here to do a job. Occasionally that results in an explosion or two, but he can handle those! And he's truly sorry for causing everyone to worry, but....it's kinda fun. Not that he would ever vocally admit this, but body language sure says a lot. And while his assistant doesn't do much to stop this, what's the point? A man as smart as him his bound to find one way or another to blow shit up "accidentally".

Some would say that Henry has a tendency to look confused. And sometimes he is, but most of the time he's very sure of what he's doing and where he is. Probably. He gets by, really. People can't seem to stay mad at the absolute ball of sunshine he is. Hansa does mean absolute happiness, after all. And if you stick around him long enough, maybe you could end up hearing him quote a few famous philosophers. Does he actually follow the advice in them? Maybe.

THE thing that makes Castella easily differentiated in a crowded room is her laugh. A howl, a cackle; doesn't matter what it is, you just know it's her. Because who laughs as loudly and often as she does? Answer: probably no one. She's likely to be one of few people wearing outrageous patterns that somehow show of the decadence wealth can afford her. That or a particularly exotic pet and a new toy on her arm. To be fair, when you manage the trade of an entire nation, you're bound to have money to spend. So why not spend it?

Castella's tastes are varied and eccentric, but it doesn't change that she's great at her job. Actually, she's pretty damn fantastic. Sure she loves shiny things; that doesn't stop her from being practical with the money of others. Her own? Not so much, and you could probably figure as much out through her private collection — which you can get a tour of if you're on good terms on her and who wouldn't like her? lol dunno if you noticed but Louisiana doesn't care that much about people in general. there are a few he tolerates bc they bring sth to the table, so unless kyle's got sth that the other basic, unnamed rebels don't have, it's unlikely that he'd just put with her shit for long or really try to make her a better rebel. like it's not sth in his nature. he values utility and having a set purpose above feeling the need to help someone realize those two things. which is why he's not in the position of recruiting people lol

hey, guys!
so this is basically a quick little guide to help everyone develop cool collabs/characters a bit more. i'll be using my own characters as examples. this is going to deal a lot more with collabs that develop the characters/get their personal arcs going.

you do not need to be part of a "big" collab to develop your characters.

i say this bc there was some concern earlier on about some collabs that were happening, and some people feeling left out. you don't need to be part of those to develop your characters. that can happen with their own little plots that you can ask others to be part of it.

we're all here to have fun and write great characters.

okay so here we are at the start. like i said, i'll be using my characters as examples. i'll be using johnny, minchul, and genghis for my examples, mostly bc the first two have been developed more through their collabs and the last needs some help lol.

[ question 1 ] what's their backstory?
> obviously you need to have up to date brainstorms if you wanna think about how to get a collab going that the character might need
> make sure you've decided on the kind of backstory your character has

since my brainstorms are kind of basic, i usually go with what i think the fc + their combined personality makes me feel

^^^ that is his early, basic brainstorm and he's developed through a number of things: headcanons and collabs. the main one is the unholy trinity, which went from platonic to....something ( blame diana ) and the other is that he's also prince carmen's footman.

i haven't updated it bc that's the base personality that i need to remember, along with what else has influenced his personality, which i keep somewhere separate.

what was built up of his backstory is as follows:
+ both his parents are well known politicians who are seemingly uncorrupt and for the people
+ their wealth, however, comes from previous and current ties to what can essentially be called a mafia
+ johnny was sent to the palace as footman for prince carmen partly to curry favor for his parents and partly to hide "disgraceful" non-heterosexual tendencies ( he's basically a closeted bi )
+ he's been kidnapped on more than on occasion and neither of his parents did much in retaliation; it was a very hushed affair

and that's the extent of it.
the whole underworld connection came about partly from the idea that he was some rich kid with connections + the look of his fc from the era i chose lol ( cherry bomb's a bop; check it out )

[ question 2 ] how can they interact with others?
> obviously if you wanna have a meaning collab or even just rp with the character, you wanna know how they would interact with others
> it's essentially the same as giving them a personality, but also evaluating how they deal with certain situations. it can build a collab idea around people that make them nervous, or scared, or happy, or that they could have a crush on.

for this example, minchul works best:

minchul has histrionic personality disorder, which is essentially a disorder that encompasses a need for attention. most people with this disorder behave in a way that can be summed up in the mnemonic PRAISE ME. the S and M stand for speech and make-up.

minchul isn't great in social settings but he still knows how to adjust himself to an individual. if you haven't read the forest thread, and if you have, it's a prime example. minchul plays up on the image people have of him, and while that can change with each individual, the baseline is a particularly kind, if not shy, gardener.

in the forest thread, he acts very much like a child bc that's how benji ( sundara's character ) sees him. their dynamic in this case is like that of a younger brother/older brother. his speech pattern and behaviors are very child-like. but, if he needed to, he could easily change the image he subscribes to if it was someone else.

[ question 3 ] what do they need?
> if you wanna develop your characters you have to think of what they need to spur on some sort of development.
> not all characters need to have a romance to be developed!! it can be fun and interesting, but it's not a necessity.

for this, we have genghis :

two seemingly simple collabs but let's look a little deeper into it

> i've made it v clear that genghis is not a friendly person and he has ( like it's in half the posts responding to possible collabs as well as in that one big post i did for him ) killed people prior to being a rebel. people have families, or friends or people who cared about them, and obviously this would raise red flags to anyone when he also makes it obvious that he's done those things. but he was never arrested: bc he also happened to be a rich kid. so obviously there's plenty of contention with people who know of the cases/were involved in some way.

emotional anchor
> this doesn't have to be a romance
> it's basically someone close to him that knows how to get him to calm down. as of yet, i haven't developed a source of his seemingly bottomless rage, but it's got nothing to do with psychosis.

this part is gonna be short bc it obviously ties into the last question of ( what your character needs ). you don't always have to do some deep and meaningful collab, though. it can be fun and kinda spontaneous. they could just get along well or hate each other's guts. the beauty of collabs is that they can be flamboyant.

aside from thinking of what your character needs, you can also think about what someone else wants for their character. no real work required, aside from deciding which of your characters could work for that particular idea. sometimes people are also stuck on what they need for their characters, and that's where you can supply your own possible ideas. now, we reach the end: making the connections to start the actual collab. this is another short and simple part.

basically, it's coming up with ways that your characters could have met someone else's. there are tons of different ways for people to meet.

the obvious way to pair people is based on affiliation. rebels, maids, cooks, selected, royals; these groups will mingle. that's the first step. the second is location. the third is how much you really want the collab lol bc then you can finesse meetings.

using jinwoo as an example:

he has plenty of connections. he's a con artist ( previously under the tutelage of yu yu hakusho's jiwoo ) and can easily find himself mixing with a number of crowds. he used to be friends with a selected and a doctor thus far before for the sake of conning them. a regular joanne the scammer.

but yeah that's really it/sorta how i do it lol

so this here is a guide to characters. it's gonna follow more of what i do and i hope it helps. again, i'll be using my own characters as examples bc why not? lol anyways yea i hope this helps when you start thinking about new characters.

i know a lot of people have said they have problems finding fcs. thing is, i always start with fcs lol i have a long list of favorites that i usually look back at or if i have an idea for their character when i first join ( and they haven't been claimed ) i drop them on my list and brainstorm them.

important: always be careful of the age of your fc and whether they're alive or not. it should be a matter of respect here. if the person is deceased, it's not disrespectful per say, but you should still take into account that they've passed. and as for age, you can always use the 3-5 rule. sometimes i fudge it if an fc looks really young/has younger resources or looks a little older. but basically: you can play them around 3-5 years older or younger. that's it.

a good example of using resources from when they were younger is actually diana's prince julian. milo, the fc, is actually forty lol but he has a lot of pictures and gifs from his twenties bc he was a fully fledged actor at that time. in this instant, it's okay to use him as a twenty-something.

i'm sorry i don't mean to drag anyone this was just the first thought that popped into my head lol a bad example would unfortunately be laura's queen ada. her fc is blake lively, who's thirty. the problem here is that the character age stretches outside of the 3-5 rule. if this were a supernatural rp and she was some kind of creature that aged slowly, i would get it. but isn't the case :/ an alternative fc she could use in this case is eva green, who's thirty-seven. this puts her right in the 3-5 range, so she could be anywhere from thirty-seven to forty-two.

also, just because you use the same fc a lot doesn't mean they have to be the same character, either. take these three for example. i've used them in several different groups and they've turned out a number of ways. some people might recognize them lol

when i say repetitions, i mean between your own characters. sometimes your characters will have similarities to others. that's okay — if they're not almost exactly alike. there's a fine line between things being similar and copying entirely, and like i'm sure we all have a feel for it by now in our roleplaying experience/careers/whatever you wanna call it lol

an example of similar characters would be chanhee squared: kaya and i both have characters that are a ) named chanhee and b) salty af. but they're not the same. kaya's chanhee is a musician and has a very distinct dislike for the royals, as well as basically dragging people through song. my chanhee is a guard and is v passive-aggressive but also is the source of like half the rumors in the rumor mill lol

but when a lot of your characters are similar in the same group, you start to lack a) variety and...dare i say it...b) creativity. sometimes you just like a certain type of characters. that's okay!! but don't make all of your characters that way. you can have variations of the same traits and by variations i mean make them different.

a popular trait i've noticed is being emotionally-challenged, so we'll use that as an example.

people have varying ranges of emotional intelligence. some people are very emotionally erudite and some people aren't at all. and then there's the in between, where a lot of people reside. the differences between them are how they deal with their emotions and those of people around them. this is where variation comes into play. one of my characters could be entirely incapable of dealing with emotional people, but have a solid grasp of their own emotions. another character of mine could be the exact opposite. another still could be unable to deal with them period. yet another still could be able to deal with both. see - variation.

but still, it's a good idea to avoid using similar traits being used too often. sometimes they start to lose their fun when you just keep using them over and over again.

the same can be said for backstories. not everyone needs to have experienced some kind of tragedy. some people have normal, "boring" stories. and sometimes they turn out to be extraordinary. (hide spoiler)]
