Jennifer ~BookHermitt (bookhermitt) | 1 comments I had a hard time with this one too. I really wanted to like it since he is a local author. I thought it lagged way too much. It was hard to keep up with where I was, past or present. Ending was bland.

Flow chart. hysterical!!

Chelsea Humphrey (suspensethrill) Can I just say how awesome this group is? Even though we landed a dud for November (Why did this land on the NYT Bestseller list?!) so many of you have been pushing through and giving it a try and I can't thank you enough for all the support! <3 Personally, I gave it a go but it just wasn't for me, so I'm putting it down. I think, since I wasn't able to squeeze in my re-read of Night Film last month I may go ahead with that for November and jump in with the new December read.

I saw a few people comment that they will be starting the book in the next few days, just waiting for their copy at the library, so hopefully they will be able to help some too!

Nancy McFarlane (scknitter) I read this three years ago but I do remember being very surprised that I liked it as much as I did as I normally don't like the more literary books. But I thought the writing was beautiful. I felt like I was right there with the family. I especially liked the insight into each family members feelings. I felt like there was just the right blend of literary and thriller - the last 100 pages made up for any lack of action earlier.

Thank you so much for your insight Nancy!

Linda (ljr622) | 9 comments My thoughts... Got to 30% and was I was lost & disinterested with all the crazy divergent plot lines, so I felt this was TLDR and fast forwarded to Part V and read to the end. In many ways it reminded me of “Breaking Wild”, “The River at Night”, “The Final Girls and “Fierce Kingdom”; while all of them were enjoyable reads, they required more suspension of disbelief than I prefer. But if you loved any or all of these other 4 thrillers, I’m sure you’ll be happy with this one.

Thelma Fountain | 136 comments I am still reading this one. I am about 150 pages in so far I like it. I am troubled by the fact that Angela seems to blame sean for Caitlyns disappearance. I understand that grief does not always make sense and often people transfer their anger to the people closest to them. I was just sad to see this happen but it is realistic. The anger stage of grief can really do a lot of damage to your relationships if you get stuck there for to long.

Candice | 52 comments The family is so broken and it’s so sad.

I am going to start this one today. I am so curious to see what I think because the reviews are so completely down the middle. At least it makes for a good discussion! lol

Candice | 52 comments Chapter 24 has anyone read it? I have a question lol. It seems that Caitlin is reminiscing on her previous races but it also sounds like she is running for the person who took her right?

Sorry. I think I answered my own question after reading over it one more time it seems self explanatory. No other reason someone would be reaching for her as she explains.

message 67: by Candice (new)

Candice | 52 comments Ok I agree that there are a lot of characters but they aren't really main characters or character's we need to keep track of because I believe they are just people who come in contact with Grant, Angela and Sean throughout this whole ordeal of Caitlin's disappearance.

message 68: by Andrew✌️ (last edited Nov 07, 2017 02:07PM) (new)

Andrew✌️ (andrew619) I've finally started this book and read more or less 27% of the story. It's difficult follow all the plots developed by th author. There are a lot of characters in this story, sometimes the confusion comes from the leaps from past to present. So far there are no clues about the fate of the girl, but every chapter describes the mood of the characters, the consequences of tragedy on their lives.
I hope there will soon be revelations about Caitlin's fate, because albeit intriguing, this schema could be boring.
A strange thing I noticed, Sean is discribed like a fiftheen when his sister disappears, but one year later looks older and tired. We'll se the next chapters.

I definitely believe the guy hit sean on purpose. He is not shy about killing the hiker proves that. I do think they saw him earlier.
I am not sure about the Chinese doctor that puzzled me too.

Yes! Ok now I feel like I'm in a good place with the book cause I got an answer that I was feeling was right. I just didn't know if I was the only one who felt that way or noticed what the doctor said to keep what he saw a secret. This book is taking me a very long time to finish. I usually finish books within a week but not this one :(

message 75: by Candice (new)

Candice | 52 comments Chapter 28..... well at least she is alive... or so it seems because this chapter's dialogue is all Caitlin. Whoever is still reading... there is hope or so it seems. LOL

I am taking a long time to read this as well but I don't think it is the book. I have been fighting a migraine all week and just don't feel like reading a lot at one sitting. I think the book is ok. It's just taking me a while to get thru it.

I've finished the chapter 27. I think that this second part is more focused on Caitlyn, but I'm not sure if the author is telling what's happened or what's happening. Also, there are a lot of characters, but some dialogues seem to have no sense, or say nothing of considerable. It's hard to read, even because the style is too stiff, a sequence of sentences and descriptions, but I'm curious to see the next chapters.

message 82: by Candice (new)

Candice | 52 comments I feel like the author is placing Sean in contact with all these characters to show how his sister’s disappearance is affecting him in life. He is a loner or a drifter but feels like he needs to save this girl he has recently come in contact with.

I feel like the author is telling the story from Caitlin’s view by what is happening cause she is saying how long it’s been (not really in actual time) she has been away from the time she saw her brother.

Candice | 52 comments Just finished the book. Man that was some book. Yes it sucked at first but after a while it got better. I wasn’t use to the writing style, the confusion of past and present but I kept notes. First book I ever did that with. It definitely got better around chapter 50. It was a challenge but I liked it, and I’m glad I stuck it out.

I am so pleased some member are really enjoying this one! I decide against picking it up for now. I might get around to it at some point. Its nice to hear all the differing opinions though! Exactly what a book club is all about!

Carmen Foster (carmenfoster) | 4 comments Only 30% in and a bit slow, but I don’t hate it, I really want to know what happened to Caitlin. Also, there’s a character named Carmen so that adds points.

Isabel (nowheregirlandherbooks) This was my first time participating in the book club and I am ashamed to say I gave up on the book around the 30% mark... I really tried to finish it but the writing was very confusing and the time jumps weren't helping...
