Kym I don't have a huge amount of followers, 55 Blogger followers, and 67 Bloglovin' followers, and I've been blogging (consistently) for less than a year, but I'll help any way I can.

Wondering what did you have in mind to help? I'd like to be a part of anything that could help!

Thelonious Legend (notuagain) | 27 comments I am very interested in helping promote Diverse books with MCOC. My only stipulation is that they be good books. I would be willing to defer to independent reviewers if they come highly recommended. Thoughts?

Agreed.

The FountainPenDiva, Old school geek chick and lover of teddy bears (thefountainpendiva) | 115 comments I don't blog, but I do write VERY detailed reviews. I'm also about diversity on covers.

Sasha (sobookishly) | 10 comments I'd definitely be willing to promo the book; however, has the author considered going through a Book Tour blog? It does cost some money but it helps the author get the word out about their book.

How does a book tour blog work?

A book tour blog is a blog which, for a fee depending on what kind of book tour the author wants to host, promotes their book through multiple book blogs (who are signed up on the book tour blog as tour hosts). Usually the books are promoted through giveaways, spotlight posts, author interviews, book reviews, cover reveals, and guest posts on the various tour stops.

I'm a tour host for several sites, such as Xpresso Book Tours and Bewitching Book Tours. I think that book tours are a great way for up and coming authors to get the word out about their book, because a lot of these tour hosts have a really large following online. Plus, it's really beneficial for tour hosts like me because I get to read/promote lots of books that otherwise I never would have heard about.

Jerry Craft (jerrycraft) | 13 comments I've been publishing books since 1997 with Black and Latino leads and have had to really come up with creative ways to market. With my most recent book which features, a Black, Latino and a Korean lead, I decided to put a silhouette on the cover. It's amazing how much better it's been received. Still, the biggest problem though is that when I inquire for ways to help spread the word, I'm still steered towards the traditional Black publications such as Essence, Ebony & AALBC. (even though the book's main them is about bullying, not being Black).

I would like to do a blog book tour but what are the associated costs for? Is that the cost for giving everyone a copy of your book? Or are there other hidden costs?

The cost is the fee associated with the services they provide. As far as I know, there should't be hidden costs. The book tour business is a very transparent one: these people want to help you and your audience interface; they're charging you for their time and efforts (and these guys work really hard; it's a very smooth operation as far as I can see as a book tour host belonging to several of these blogs).

What they do: they essentially organize everything for you, from scheduling the book tour to getting tour hosts to sign up to review your book, to organizing the giveaways and promoting your book on their website/social media sites. I hate posting links on here because it seems like I'm promoting them, but just to give you an idea of what a book tour site looks like and the costs/packages associated with it, here is are a couple links: Bewitching Book Tours and Xpresso Book Tours

It's just a suggestion; if you feel like you'd rather someone else handled the organization of a book tour rather than doing all the promotion yourself, this is a very effective way to get your book some attention and get the word out there. Word of mouth is a really good thing and book tours help your book achieve traction.

I've actually personally been eyeing the idea of setting up a book tour blog myself, but specializing in diverse books and authors. Honestly I think there's a great market for it and it would help authors writing diverse books get in touch with a wider audience.

Hmm... I guess it doesn't seem that bad. Does anyone on this list perform this activity?

Heather Heffner | 64 comments For Jen Grayson's Lightning Rider, I gravitate much more toward the cover with her Latina heroine on the cover rather than the second one. The first cover is exciting, diverse, connects to me as a female, and seems better quality overall. The second cover doesn't draw me in or offer anything unique.

I try to make my own covers and it's really hard to find good quality stock photos for non-white characters.

Sorry to get off topic. Anyways, I'd be happy to do character interviews for either author on my blog. Just PM me.

As far as Book Tours go, they might be able to get hooked up through Paranormal Cravings. Here's their prices:

I signed up to be a tour host, and so far, I don't have to pay anything :D By hosting you might not be the focus of attention, but people would be exposed to your books who come visit. Independently organizing a book tour might be a great strategy to explore too!
