I personally loved the book especially Lada and her personality and I absolutely look forward to reading the next book.
I am a sucker (no pun intended) for dark/twisted stories, so this was an excellent read! Learning about Romanian and Central Asian history was a major plus too. (For my US centric brain, anyway.)I enjoyed all the characters, especially Lada and Radu. It's a wonderful change to see women written as human, with a wide range of personalities and quirks. And Radu, oh my lovely beautiful soft boy <3 While he frustrated me sometimes (especially with a certain character), I quite liked reading from his perspective as well. It was also really great to see a positive/more realistic portrayal of Islam, since there are still so many misconceptions about the faith.
Can't think of a least favorite part...maybe the publisher rating. I feel that this book/series is for a more mature audience, definitely not 12 year olds. That's probably just me, though.
I'm excited to read the next book!
Took me a while to get through this book due to travel and such. But I did enjoy it. There were some shocking parts, which I loved. this was my first historical fiction book set somewhere other than England. I enjoyed learning about the military and traditions. Did have a mind blown moment though. so in all a lot of the Disney movies there are single parents. In Aladdin, I've always assumed Jasmines mom was dead but reading this I realized she probably just lives with the Harem. Just eye opening to compare Aladdin yo this and understand more of what was being talked about. 😆
I LOVE this series, I've read the second book, Now I Rise, and it was just as good, if not better than, the first one. Really the first historical fantasy I've read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved Lada and Radu, and I can't wait for the third one!
