Synopsis:
Humans are not at the top of the food chain. While a brave few humans are ready to fight to regain their freedom from their alien conquerors, the human race's hopes depend on a girl who doesn't give a damn about their cause or freedom.
Khara, a tough-as-nails survivor, finds her place serving the alien invaders even as she struggles with revulsion of the aliens and loneliness after the loss of her family in the invasion. As she serves the aliens, she learns that she has an ability (unlike most humans) to interpret the chemical emanations which serve as their main form of communication.
Nestra – the alien Queen’s Shame Receptor – struggles with loyalty to her Queen while recognizing the Queen’s madness, a madness that is spread to her people through her powerful chemical emanations. Lonely and forbidden the chemical “sharing” with others of her species, Nestra turns to humans for companionship.
As the humans plot revolution and the Queen’s madness creates a schism between infected and uninfected aliens, time is running out for humans. Will the forbidden friendship that develops between Khara and Nestra show them all a new way – coexistence?
