Megan | 481 comments I agree with Catherine, listening to the audiobook really helps, and Mariana’s suggestion to treat it like a telenova is great!

Obrigada! Much calmer and organized, baby is fine, I'm fine, everything works :D And love that with new co mods everything looks the same as always :)

Zainab Al Lawati (zainaballawati) | 224 comments Marcos, I am travelling for 2 weeks, but will continue reading it after that. See if you are still interested.
I vow to not surrender and finish it before picking any other physical book.

Mariana, I was warned about the name confusion thing early on, that's why I made sure to use the family tree at the end of my book. I think I am getting by well, as it didn't bother me. What I don't enjoy is the story itself, and the terrible incest.

Megan, glad to know I am not alone. We can do it .. I hope.

Megan | 481 comments I’m on the last chapter. Hooray!! To warn you, there’s more incest. Why?!!! Why is there so much incest in this book? There are moments when I really like it, but there are more moments when I hate it. Good luck!

I think it's what I feel about Jane Eyre right now, I try to stay in context and understand that child abuse and abandonment was ok at that time. I don't remember all the incest as traumatic (remember, I was 15) so maybe rereading it would change my feelings because of all the things I've lived through 23 years later :D But more than 50 years ago this was a reality in a small forgotten town. "The house of spirits" has an abuse vibe that just portrays what happened with the lord of the house and the servants.

I'm very interested! I just can't keep the pace sometimes. Or many times, actually! :-D
