Morning, writers! Today is a special day, and it’s not just because it’s the first of the month, but the first of November! What’s so special about November, you ask?

November is National Novel Writing Month! Which means the NaNoWriMo competition has officially begun!

Some of you may be familiar with the annual NaNoWriMo contest (and its summer camps) and some you may be completely new to the game. In short, you are challenging yourself to write 50,000 words in 30 days. No, you can’t just rewrite the My Little Pony Theme Song 50,000 times. You must by the end of November have 50,000 words jotted down for your novel. And because 50,000 words is roughly the equivalent size of a regular novel, it essentially means you will have completed your own novel in 1 month’s time .

So why is this important to you? Some of you may have full-time jobs and have been itching to finish that last part of your novel since ever, but never made the time for it.
Some of you may be in college, and have large segments of time to write, but are too exasperated with work and school. Some of you may be stay at-home mothers, fathers, retirees. The point is, as passionate as we are about are craft, it is easy to feel drowned in a world full of responsibilities where time--and our lives---must.go.on.

And the only way some of us can truly get on our feet sprinting towards the magical novel finish line is by wiping our slates completely clean. Starting off fresh.

So this competition is exactly that. It starts on the 1st of November, 11/1. It gives you the space of 1 full month to write your novel. Which means best of all, it gives you exactly 0 reasons to not finish your novel.

Everyone else is starting with you. So that means that everyone intends to finish with you.

Mom of four with busy schedule? College student in-between midterms? Full-time worker pacing between jobs?

Well now, you have a home here, at NaNoWriMo!

So what are you waiting for?

Sealing your fate for the NaNoWriMo competition takes 5 steps:

1.Sign up to https://www.nanowrimo.org and fill out your profile
2.Get inspired by the plenty of resources available to you at https://nanowrimo.org/inspiration
3.Join the Struggling Writers NaNoWriMo Bootcamp by finding the topic “Join Us” under its folder and introducing yourself to the community!
4.Set your wordcount goal (NaNoWriMo stresses 50k words, but everyone may be at different points in their life)
5.Start writing!

The wait is over!
