Whelk is bad. Czerny is definitely going to be important to the story.

What if Czerny's fate is foreshadowing Gansey's future? Ley lines, imminent death... they seem connected.
Also, what if Whelk and Czerny are the reason Blue hates Anglioby boys in particular? After the ritual they performed, maybe something involving Blue's family was stirred.
Or maybe I'm just overthinking the whole book. It's so atmospheric and seems to hint at so many things the reader can only speculate, right?

You really think Whelk is the bad guy? I didnt't think of him like that, more like an anti-hero. Which is kinda the same, come to think of it.

I'm not so sure if Whelk is a bad guy, I think his experiences with the lay lines are similar to Gansey and will play a role in the story to come. Even though he isn't bad I don't think he's very good either but we'll see. I agree with Eleni and Destiny that Gansey and Czerny are some how connected to each other.
