When Beatrice goes into the dauntless she gives herself a nickname ‘Tries’ to hide her background.

Jeanine Matthews the leader of the Erudite group. She was using a simulation on the Dauntless. So that she could mind control them them and make them kill the innocent. But Tris was Divergent so the simulation didn’t work on her. Divergents weren’t accepted because they were different and they couldn't be controlled so they just say it's dangerous and chose to get rid of them.
