Charlie Ravioli (charlie_ravioli) | 613 comments I listened to this one and maybe that’s a contributing factor to my low rating or maybe it was my overall frame of mind or maybe I’m not a sophisticated reader, but this one just didn’t click for me. I hesitate to blame it on me being a male because it makes me sound like a pig (and it further supports a comment my aunt once made looking at my library (albeit over 20 years ago) - “wow, what a bunch of man books”). Anyway, I found some of it interesting but overall I was just like “huh?” It’s a rare reaction for me and I’m sure it’s me but I just didn’t connect with this one. Glad it was as short as it was.

Karin | 9325 comments I barely gave this one a 3, so I don't think it's necessarily because you're male.

Hahaha!! I don't think it makes you sound like a pig. If you look at our bookshelf, it's painfully obvious which books are mine, and which are my fiances. Since we both do e-readers now, the only DTB we buy often are ones that we BOTH will want to read.

Also, I didn't love this either- 3.5 stars. I didn't relate to Lucy at all, despite sharing the same gender.

Actually I know you don't want to say that you didn't like it because you are male, but I confess I can't think of a single guy I would recommend this one to . . .in fact I love Strout and wouldn't recommend any of her books to any guys I know.
