Robert Negut (cavalary) | 74 comments This 2004 edition of Silverthorn should probably be set as an alternate for this 1986 one, since it kept the same ISBN but the 2004 one doesn't quite have it listed? Guess someone tried to get around the restriction of one book per ISBN (I think there is a restriction at least?) by removing the leading 0 from the 2004 one and not entering ISBN13 at all, but wouldn't the practice be to leave the 2004 one with no ISBN and add links from one to the other at the top of the description?

While at it, what's with that "Die Midkemia-Saga" series including just 2 of the series in the Riftwar Cycle? Not like it includes all taking place in Midkemia, so... some user, maybe a German one, started it at some point and left it like that or...?

Empress (the_empress) You are correct. ISBN can be assigned to only one edition.

I have cross-linked the editions to make it easier for users to find their own and have removed the truncated ISBN10

I'm unsure about the series situation. If it is duplicate series page it can be deleted, but series pages for different order of reading or consisting of more series in the same world are allowed.
Edit: I moved Die Midkemia-Saga down so the Riftwar will be prioritized

Empress (the_empress) Actually I just remembered I've read all six books (in different language, so don't judge me for not recognizing the titles), but alas someone must have done merges as the book were no longer on my shelves and none of the books on the series pages were marked as read for me! (possibly a bug?) The translated series were three books, and match the Midkemia Saga titles. As the Riftwar seems to be 4 books only, I would say Mikdemia is legit and I am wondering if that was the initial title of the series. I have a vague memory of working on this series but it was all too long ago!

Robert Negut (cavalary) | 74 comments Originally that first series in the cycle was 3 books since Magician was a single one, then some 10 years later Magician got an extended re-release, according to the foreword having what was cut from the initial release on publisher's request due to size constraints, some 50000 words, put back in and a few other things ironed out, and that was split in 2, making for 4 in the series in that form. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rif... too

And merges cause books to no longer be in shelves? Ouch! That's nasty...

No, they don't.

If a user thinks a book has vanished off their shelves inexplicably, they may wish to use the Contact Us link on the Help page. The whole point of doing a merge, rather than completely deleting an invalid edition and leaving no trace, is to preserve users' ratings, reviews, and shelvings.
