Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments I am about to start hearing the sound of my husband NOT mowing the lawn. He finally hired a service - after years of me suggesting he should - and they will mow while we're away.

The years of doing everything yourself do come to an end.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Alla wasn't able to come in yesterday. I'm terrified I may have to do some ironing this week.

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments It's therapeutic, Patti. Course it is. Put a good book on audio. Catch up on telly. Hmm...

Alicia - my husband paved the front garden over because he stopped liking lawn mowing. Still got the back to do, but we now call it the meadow - it's for the bees, you know.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I can do both those things without holding an iron.

Ironing is overrated. I haven't done it in years. A few days ago, the ironing board joined the large pile of 'Donate' items, along with the iron.

Meadows not welcome in NJ suburbia except in enclosed back yards; but the green stuff has to be mowed oftener than weekly in the hot muggy summers, and I was always on call the ambulance alert. Not that he knew that - but he's had a quadruple bypass and three more stents.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Unfortunately, teachers aren't in a salary bracket where distressed jeans and faded, torn tshirts are considered suitable attire.

Not that we could afford those, either...

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments Alicia said, " he's had a quadruple bypass and three more stents."

Enjoy molly coddlings galore. As you say, there comes a time to get someone else in to do the hard work.

message 4762: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments He is darned hard to molly coddle, and I hate nagging. He's a grownup - I rarely even make suggestions, but my tongue is almost bitten through lately.

He finally made up his mind, possibly because we will be away for over two weeks during prime grass-growing season, possibly because he's doing SO much work getting the house ready for the painter that he can see the benefit of having help (he keeps stealing my assistant; as a result, I am not packed).

Hi everyone, I'm new to the Goodreads forum. Very excited to be here. I am 37 and live in Cleveleys, near the beach in Blackpool (United Kingdom). Where is everyone else from?

I have been working on my first book and it's finally finished. I can now have my evenings back. Apart from last night, when, despite having finished my book, I decided to write a short poetry book, dedicated to my Daughter.

I look forward to being a positive contributor to the forum, the discussion, and can't wait to read some amazing books.

Thank you for reading.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Morning all, feel so much better after some sleep. Fundraising wasn't that great, very quiet morning, and we had invited people who wanted to volunteer for us along, only 2 of the 20 people who had filled in a form turned up. At least I came back with nice cake. Didn't get that much housework done, didn't have the energy!! Got up at 8 to medicate Lucy, pegged washing out, went back to bed and had to bully her to get up at 9.40!! Hopefully have enough energy to finish the housework, and foot isn't as painful, still swollen but shoes were easier to put on, so that is going down finally. Sun is shining. Turned down going out for lunch with my neighbour to blitz the house. Did an Ocado shop last night and they had a slot left for tonight, so shopping coming between 9 and 10!

Nice to 'meet' you Dawn, we go to Cleveley's regularly, my neighbours son lives there, it's about an hour and a half drive for us. Good luck with your paperwork Patti. Glad OH has finally accepted some help Alicia.

Apparently.

Hope everyone is fit and well, if a little bewildered this morning.

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments Weather has been good, Mum has enjoyed sitting out in the sun.
We had a FaceTime chat with my niece who is settling into her new home in Stockholm.

I've organised to have my sewing machine repaired so that I can get on with making a quilt.

I have quite a few books that I have downloaded recently but can't settle to reading them. Too much choice I think.

Dawn I'm not far from you either. Mum's sister lives in Cleveleys and my brother and his family are just down the coast in St Annes.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments I have read, just not a full book yet! And I used to read two or three a week

message 4785: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments I've been doing the tax return and went through my kindle book order history to see if I had bought anything marketing or writing related that I could expense. So - there I was looking at page after page after page of books purchased in 2017. I managed the princely sum of £7.03 on expenses!!!

Hope everyone is fit and well.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Morning all, another rubbish night sleep, typical when I have a heavy day at work. Last day of catsitting. Sun is shining.

Good luck R

You hide from fit men in your shower room?

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning

Making how to videos for training purposes today, but first I think I need to make a cup of tea or something. I'm parched!

Nathan started sleeping better this weekend too, Lindsay! Must be something in the good weather. Oh I hope it lasts (the good weather and the sleeping).

Hope you all had lovely weekends!

Elizabeth White | 1761 comments Morning everyone.

The sun is still shining and a good week is forecast, if I haven't just put the mockers on it.

I need to find a lawn mower and hedge trimmer (of the human variety). Also a window-cleaner and fence painter, although I may get on with the last myself. Himself is not fit enough anymore and if I do everything inside and out, I will never put pen to paper again. Ho hum.

Waking at 3am and not getting back to sleep, not so much.

Early night for Patti tonight.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I’m now half way ‘home’. This morning was fun, I went to pay while OH loaded the car and came back to the hotel room to check he’d got everything. What a mess, he’d trodden in something vile outside and walked it all over the cream carpet. Squashed snail. How on earth people eat them I shall never know. Had to do a quick clean up or they’d have thought it was something dog related but it wasnt.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Your hubby really needs to start watching his step, Lynne.

6am and Dave is subjecting me to political speech videos.

Grief.
