Morning all, I've had the heating on for two hour and we haven't reached 14.5 indoors yet :( Draughty old buildings and a windchill of -20 are not a good combo.Got to go into Edinburgh, trains are running fine apparently. Daughter has an appointment at the eye hospital. Given our family history I am worried sick.

Finally been told what we're doing today as none of us were prepared to risk it heading in for training (a shift would have been different!). Day at home doing essay work, definitely sounds much better! Fingers crossed for your daughter Rosemary x
Morning! Hope all goes well with your daughter Rosie. It's a worry.More overnight snow here but it's the wind that's evil. Chicken refused to come out this morning so I made her a warm mash and put it inside the house. She scoffed it PDQ but she's still inside away from the wind. Bird brain? It works for her.
Bit chilly in the valley this morning, and I was hoping to wake up to a mountain of snow, but no such luck! Plenty of roadworks on the way to Carmarthen thins morning, however, which made a 35 minute journey an hour and a quarter. Can't complain though, it's nice to have a day of work and the half term's a short one, so looking forward to easter.Coffee and grindstone time for me. If you're out and about in the white stuff, or just in general, take care. And hope the appointment goes well, Rosemary.

Looking east, the north of Morecambe Bay was clear, the South of the Bay was horrendous, couldn't see across it. The lakeland fells are covered by cloud (or something)
Mor .... oops ... afternoon alls. Snow's arrived here in Cornwall now. Bloody parky too! Not too much snow yet but more than a dusting. Have to go down to the beach later to get a pic.

It's called squalls, dear. Worry when you see drifts so high you don't have anywhere to shovel it.
I don't think you lot need to concerned that you didn't put up snow fences last fall.
A few flurries here & there, with sunshine in between. Drove to my meeting in Newbury without a hitch (although the satnav seemed to want to show me every single track road with a hint of a snowbank, despite there being a perfectly sensible route which it ignored)Bought another heater on the way home, cos even claiming it's an emergency, I can't find a plumber prepared to come out before next week!)
Thanks for the good wishes everyone, looks like it's nothing too serious fortunately although they want to do a few more scans. Her father being an interesting case means that they took special care I think. And I've managed to get home - it's a proper blizzard out there now. Train was near full with people leaving work early, all the schools are shut now.Sending warm thoughts to Tim and to all else who needs the heat!
The problem, Patti, is that because this country only gets heavy (for us) snow every few years, no-one's bothered to put the infrastructure in place to deal with it!

Put in the infrastructure, spend the money to maintain it, and you'd not use it more than twice a decade

And I just went in to the website do an order for friday and found that they have closed out the orders for friday already, so I have to wait until saturday. Not sure if its because they are trying to keep the drivers safe or because everyone one is getting panic deliveries!
If you believe the news reports, the world's about to end, with the amount of panic buying!
Morning all, that was a wild night! Apparently all the roads out of town are all closed apart from one and that is only passable with care, and not advised. And we're on the coast! Must be much worse inland.

Morning all, been snowed in for only the second time in the 15 years I've lived here and it's still snowing. A colleague has offerred a lift if he can get near, but he is leaving it for the snow to die down, so working from home first. Hope you don't need to go anywhere R.

The bus to work yesterday turned a less than ten minute journey to nearer an hour and since today seems worse I am working from home
Morning everyone.Snow has been falling for two nights and a day - there's a six inch smurf hat on the bird house and we woke up this morning to a huge snow overhang above the bedroom window. (Part of this has now fallen off and crushed some of the pots.)
It looks like a second day of snow showers - bright sunshine in between!
The estate is snowed in - being on the side of a hill - and it doesn't look as though any of the neighbours have made any attempt to shovel their cars out of the driveways.
The gritter hasn't shown, so we are hazarding that a councillor no longer lives in the lower reaches.
Frozen in now! Can hardly get up the drive cos of all the ice.

Yes, I'm going to stop being stubborn and increase anti-inflams. Got really strong painkillers yesterday, can only take then at night. Thanks for the concern. Got confirmation from pets at home today, we can do our first event on 25th March, which I've agreed to do! Snow going but sky looks like it has some in it
