The heating here at work has been playing up for the last couple of weeks - ever since we had a smart meter installed. It is a very cold place at the best of times so I'm well used to wearing plenty of layers.

So glad we aren’t travelling this week, there is quite a lot of snow in the south of France , my neighbour sent me a picture of our roof and it’s well covered. The use of chains or studs is obligatory at 200 metres and our village is 550m so we wouldn’t have been going home. It’s been lovely in West Wales but once the sun went down the temperature has gone down fast.

Well, as happens in my life, the afternoon hasn't gone to plan, doc was running late, I went in for a sinus spray, she commented on my limp and insisted on seeing my foot, the redness and pain is around my metatarsals so she insisted on an xray, which I went straight for. Also asked for some stronger painkillers. Couldn't be bothered food shopping, just got a couple of bits from the local shop. Just made enchiladas, can't be bothered with a bath now as I need to iron something for work tomorrow. Really cold and still trying to snow

Yes, I suppose it was good. She has xrayed in case of a stress fracture, I think it will just show arthritis. I hope it shows something else though. Going to see if anti inflam gel works. She said results in 2 weeks, hospital said 7-10 days

That's unbelievable. We get results immediately if there's a problem, the day after if there's nothing obvious - after all, they might need a different view, etc. Walking on a broken foot for two weeks would be devastating. I don't suppose they will simultaneously write you a note to get out of WORK for those two weeks while you wait for results?

Morning all. We've had a picturesque dusting of snow here. Tim I feel for you. Patti, glad you are on the mend, Desley, it's not gout is it? Very painful but usually effectively controlled with a drug called allopurinol. My dad had it. Jim, hope lambing goes well and that your ladies are able to hang on until after this dodgy batch of weather.

Found a 20 bottle wine rack in a skip near our house. Swiped it. Got it to the back gate and realised it had woodworm. Decided I probably wouldn't get round to treating it and put it back in the skip. That evening, I told McOther, in case he was really keen. In which case I'd have re-liberated it and done the woodworm ... Or he would. Turns out it's our wine rack and he was the one who put it in the skip!

Morning all, we have quite a lot of snow and still coming down, so have made the decision to work from home, don't think limping in the snow would be wise! In fact, I've just put boots on to put my neighbours cat in, complete agony. Aww, bless you Jim. Alicia, last year I waited a month for xray results! Doc was unwilling to give a sick note, just pointed out I can self cert for 7 days.

I'm sure your National Health is wonderful, but waiting for the results such a long time is completely wrong. Diagnosis depends on that data. Treatment depends on diagnosis. Things can get a whole lot worse without treatment. And meanwhile, you're in pain.

I've never waited more than overnight for Xray results, and MRI results were given to me to take with me immediately on a disk along with a report (my doctor then had to interpret them further).

Not going to argue the merits of the US system, but it does have some advantages.

Good morning! We have an inch or two of snow and it's still falling irregularly. The Beast from the East is so far more like The Pussy from Kingussie (apologies to Scottish groupites). When I was at school (yeah, I know) our uniform included plastic overshoes for snowy weather. We didn't have central heating and we're still here.

Snow. :(
We have an inch or so (more up at the top of the hill where I am) but the main road from mum's to the daycare and then onto work was clear. Nowhere to park but the car was only abandoned for five minutes before the mechanic came to pick it up for its MOT. I don't know whether it will be back in time for me to collect mum but I smiled at the mechanic and asked if he would drive it home for me if needed. I hope he will as the hill up to mum's is a nightmare to get up in snowy weather. Meanwhile I will make my way to the daycare and get a taxi from there if I have to. Then I won't need the car again until Friday when mum goes to daycare again.

The heating at work isn't working properly - one of the radiators had an airlock and my boss tried to bleed the radiators and ended up breaking something, so the heating was left on all night so that it wouldn't leak - but it still did, but the result is that we are all wrapped up for the cold and the office is too warm. Which shows that we would be better to have the heating on all night all the time.

My comment last year Alicia was that as they glance at them before letting you go to make sure they have the correct angle, that surely if I'd do anything serious they wouldn't have let me walk out of the hospital. If you bypass the GP and go to the Urgent Care centre, they do give you the results there and then, you just might have to wait hours to be seen. Last year, as it was an arthritis flare up, it took months to settle down anyway. Odd situation here, sun is kind of shining so snow is melting, but there is more snow coming down. Roads here were horrendous according to a friend, so glad I opted to work from home.

Problems with Kindle for PC
I have been reading ebooks on my Kindle, Tablet and PC without problems for several years however now I do have one. I bought 10 books in a series, 9 of which have arrived on my Android Tablet and Kindle Paperweight but not my PC. I have made sure that I am running the latest versions of Chrome & Kindle PC App but to no avail. Yes my PC is a bit old (Windows 7 32 bit) but if all the other books were okay it seems unlikely that thr PC is the problem. Any thoughts? Thanks

I understand. But you're still walking on a foot that really hurts for at least 7 days before treatment begins. Are you at least on anti-inflammatories and painkillers meanwhile?

I think, from your posts, you're pretty tough - but this is bothering you enough to interfere with your life. Just concerned is all. And a lot of others depend on you.

Oh Tim, I so hate being cold. I hereby donate 10 pairs of thermal socks and a knitted poncho that's so thick and heavy it has to be washed in the bath and craned onto the washing line. (I think himself may also have a monkey wrench somewhere around?)
