Glad to hear there are little improvements Lynne, hope they keep going in that direction. Had a brilliant weekend, went from having not much going on to something every day from thursday til yesterday! Climbing, fireworks, a comedy night, afternoon tea and dinner! Had everyone sing happy birthday to me at work (it's the instigator of that little trick's birthday on monday, might get my own back and see if he beats my red face!! It was quite nice of them though really.) Had a nice break from the usual death by powerpoint sessions yesterday when we went to see what our HART unit do (they're the people with the biohazard, chemical, collapsed building etc training) and to see some of their equipment. Back to powerpoints today though so I'm now off to bed with my laptop to try and squeeze in some NaNo :)
I shall be knackered. I don’t think I can manage pup and spaniel together so I shall be doing relays for dog walking. Pup now weighs 36 kgs. I’m just going to enjoy peace and quiet.
Lynne, the little guy is in my thoughts, and his new mom, and family and friends - hope everything pulls through. As my grandmother used to say - have fun and invite me.
So pleased he's improving and mum can stay close. They didn't have that sort of facility at the neo-natal hospital when my sister had her babies so we were commuting several hours a day for several months with both of them. How much does he weigh now?
I'm also pleased OH is flying this time! That'll take most of the stress out of the trip, for a change.
Sounds like you had a birthday blast, Claire! You're really enjoying the climbing thing, aren't you? Quite the change from when you started!
Hope you're better, Desley. They must really be missing you at work.
Sounds really windy out there today. I hope we'll get some sun, at least,
Morning all, frosty here which is rare as I'm practically on the beach. I hear that I missed the aurora last night againAll best wishes for the wee one Lynne
Good morning all. I'm wrestling with facebook today. And editing a book. And sweeping up leaves. That ought to keep me quiet.
Morning, still feel rubbish. Looking at what I've been coughing up, think I should take myself to the doc. Glad you had a great birthday weekend Claire, I'm a great believer in doing as much for your birthday as possible.
Don't know about the quiet bit, Will. I've been sweeping leaves and spent most of the time grumbling about them.
Morning all! Glad to hear the baby's improving, Lynne - and hope you feel better soon, Desley. I've rarely known Doctors be that sympathetic with coughs.I've had to call into work sick due to a combination of heavy flu, lost sleep, and lacerated hands gained by disentangling a (very unimpressed) cat from a computer wire she'd somehow wrapped around herself.
At least the puppy's happy.
Will wrote: "Don't know about the quiet bit, Will. I've been sweeping leaves and spent most of the time grumbling about them."we go for the environmental approach and merely clean leaves out if they look like they might block drains :-)
No, doc wasn't sympathetic but my chest was crackly so have been given ab's - also rearranged my flu jab, which was supposed to be Fri, practice manager tried to pass comment, receptionist stopped her with 'she's just seen the doctor'. I did wonder about my logic of going out as it was 0 and I had to scrape the car. Must get the winter coat outSorry you are also unwell Benjamin, typical of a cat to be ungrateful when you help them - mine got huffity yesterday, I was only telling her how much I love her.
Good morning, lovely sunny day here, baby was a big one when born 9lb 9oz. He’s four times the size of the tiny in the next incubator but he’s holding a lot of fluid so looks even bigger, I made him something second size but I can see it’s not going to fit already. They need incubator blankets knitting. When I think of all the crap they spend the money on and they appeal for tiny blankets. grrrr. I’m sure some of the older ladies in hospital or nursing homes would be happy to knit them but perhaps Health and safety have banned knitting needles.
I know there’s organisations who do patterns for hats etc for prem babies so me and sister have started knitting,
Morning all. You take each little positive things as an achievement, don't you, Lynne? Long may the little one keep achieving. You're going through it, Desley. Seems as if one thing after another has weakened you. I prescribe a fortnight off in a warm climate - good luck with getting someone to dispense the meds!
You take care, Benjamin, or you'll need my prescription too!
Off soon for a beach walk and a fish and chip lunch. Ahh, retirement!

Yes, it certainly has been one thing after another, ironically since i swapped the stressful voluntary work for a less stressful one! I do like your prescription
We bought Cabbage Patch clothes for my sister's girls. I gave them my dolls when they were old enough to play with them and they had enormous wardrobes. The girls still have the dolls and all the clothes, which is nice.Poor Dave has been stuck in brain numbing meetings all afternoon. I'm keeping his spirits up by emailing him.

That was why I was clearing leaves. Both yard drains had blocked.

I'm having great fun climbing Patti, and I'm surprised at how quickly I'm noticing an improvement in what I can climb. Hoping I can keep going nearly as much when I'm back on shift.
Just saved £200 off our home insurance. Phoned up and told them it was too expensive. Feeling quite pleased with myself but also annoyed that the renewal came in so high. However we've caved in and put the heating on today so the extra will all probably go on gas!
I received a letter from the mortgage company as I'm on an interest linked mortgage, was pleasantly surprised. Should probably look at my house insurance too
You should be able to get me a really nice pressie this year, Nosemanny!Speaking of the c word. The other c word, I mean.
Has anyone seen the M&S Paddington Bear Christmas advert yet?
Yep, that's the one.Apparently, some people think 'santa' is saying 'fuck you, little bear' at the end.
Now you won't be able to unhear it.
You're welcome. :D
Lynne, sending positive thoughts and hope the little one continues to improve. Desley and Benjamin, hope you both feel better soon.
Claire, sounds like you had an amazing birthday,
Oh Patti, I saw the Paddington advert online last night and I'm glad I had that lovely innocent experience because I am now going to hear that at the end every single time until Christmas is over. Can't wait to tell my husband. hee hee
Well, my cough is getting worse, my colleagues are going to love me tomorrow! Wonder if anyone will ask me to go home. Don't feel as bad in myself though.
Good morning!Holiday here. It's Flag day or something.
I'm teaching tomorrow. Hopping from class to class all day again.
It's not boring!
Morning all, cough isn't as bad, although I keep losing my voice, am a bit sniffly and flared up my sciatica. No idea what to expect at work, after a week off. At least it isn't as cold as yesterday. Another holiday Patti!
Morning.Glad your cough is getting better, Desley.
Today I'm going to unkill the bloke I murdered last week and them bump him off in a different way.
Is it just me or is that Paddington advert a little weird? I can't work out who the bloke is or why he's on the roof. Is he a burglar? Why are folks opening their presents on Christmas Eve? Why is the sleigh big enough to ride in?And doesn't the over-riding message of "Spend it well" sound a little grubby and over-commercialised?
What a strange little ad. I'm almost glad for Patti's misheard lyrics!
Good morning everyone.
Good morning! Glad to hear you're better, Desley. I've also dragged myself into work, and am all set to cough at the public.
Morning, each! Done the week's shopping an settling down to an hour or two at the computer. This afternoon it's flower arranging and this evening the WI is having a talk by someone from Wold Top Brewery. Word has apparently got around that it's a beer tasting and one bloke was going to bring five friends under the impression it was just a PU! Let's hope it's not a punch-up too, when they find the load of sedate old dears that is our Women's Institute!
Sounds like a good evening to get some shots for your 2018 calendar, Kath.I've spent the day thinking its Sunday. Dave was convinced it's Saturday.
Stupid they didn't float this holiday to tomorrow. Half the kids won't be at school tomorrow, I bet.
Dreary and rainy. I'm hoping the weather will stop any fireworks from happening in the middle of the night.
I've always thought of the WI as a slightly sinister grouping of 'old dears' that any sensible bloke would do well to avoid...

my equally late Mother was a member for many years and actually was Branch president etc at one point. They both went on a week's holiday to Denman College on some course she'd won
My chess club meets in a local community centre. Sometimes we have our club evenings at the same time as the WI.Imagine a room full of middle aged and elderly gents not saying a great deal to each other, next door to similarly aged women singing Jerusalem and listening to lectures about aphids.
Mind you, they did once ask us to shush when a couple of us were speaking at slightly above a whisper whilst brewing the teas and coffees. We may be the only chess club in the world to have been shushed by the WI.
Evening all - my internet disappeared last night - so I tried the usual - rebooting the router, running update checks etc and all to no avail. So I thought perhaps it was a local problem and was set to try again this morning - which I did, but the problem was still there. After re-doing the things I'd already tried several times - when talking to her on the phone - they magically worked!!! She said she'd changed the channel. I said that I thought that happened every time you rebooted and she said no - that wasn't the case and did I want her to send me some internet advice and tips. Contained in this advice was that rebooting automatically changed channel. GRRRRrrrrrr!!!
Well, a full day was optimistic, I was fine till 2pm, then just felt worse, a colleague sent me home half an hour early cos I looked so pale. Then got a bit snappy at my neighbour who was complaining about doing a full fundraiser on sat because she is tired! At least had a breakthrough with the fosters
Evening all.Ugh - hide underneath a warm blanket until Monday and don't answer the door, Desley. The world will continue turning!
It's when you come across a gin and knives meeting between the the fairer sex that you should worry, guys...
Bought Christmas cards today - now I just need to be able to find them again when I write them at the end of the month.

Wish I could, but fridge is bare, and after fund-raising on Sat, I'm going for a meal with friends
