It's good to share. Sometimes.

Got any coal to share? We've just run out. Will be running down the road shortly to ask the nice people there to deliver some PDQ.

No, I didn't know, just that it gets difficult planting up a 'traditional' cottage garden without any foreign invaders.
I'm a fan of country names for plants too, like ladies' (lady's?) bedstraw and granny bonnets.
Morning everyone.Snow expected and it may be too cold for comfort to trundle off to the caravan and motorhome show at the SEC which starts tomorrow. I can feel a casserole coming on...

Sounds like a good investment Gingerlily - thanks, how do I get the truck down the drive?
Went out to defrost the car earlier and it was -4 ! For a moment I thought I might have been transferred to canada without realising. Will, if you were in anyway responsible for chocolate hobnobs, you should have been knighted!
have you seen the news about the Tesla car enroute to Mars? Complete with a spaceman with a towel, and a screen reading 'Don't Panic' in front of him... Brilliant!
Is it still even legal to burn coal?I've made a huge batch of shortbread dough.
Love this recipe. Just corn starch, icing sugar, flour and butter.
Well, margarine, so Dave can have them. I found nice margarine, though.
Just rolled it up. Once it's chilled, I'll be slicing and baking.
I know that feeling Kath. I was up at 3. Had a ten minute nap a couple hours ago, so not feeling too bad.

If you can lay down some rails I will send a minecart full.
It's 1/2 cup cornstarch, 1/2 cup icing sugar, 1 cup flour, 3/4 cup butter.Roll the dough into a snake wrapped in plastic wrap. About an inch in diameter. Chill for several hours or overnight, hack off quarter inch slices, bake at 350 until golden.
I've not made these in a few years but I think they spread quite a bit as they bake, so leave plenty of room between them for the first batch in the oven. If they don't, you can cram them closer together.
I did a double batch, so I've got about a yard of dough in the fridge.
Snowing big fluffy flakes like crazy in central New Jersey. Just picked up eldest daughter after her red-eye from San Francisco. Windshields had to be cleared of pellet ice. She's here - it can do its worst now.
Had forgot to put my windscreen cover on, so was slightly late as I had to scrape the inside of the car, it was -4. Lovely and sunny though and as it is so cold, we still have quite a bit of white stuff lying. Had a 9.30 deadline which went in with 45 seconds to spare!! Not quite the way I like to start my day. Randomly got a sore foot too, and a bit breathless today. Got a load of charity stuff to do as well. Safe journey MT. Hope coal is legal Patti, my neighbour uses a lot in her burner.
When they wanted to cut down smoke here, they didn't make it illegal to burn coal, just to sell it. And overnight (almost) there appeared several varieties of smokeless and low smoke fuel.

Had a day off today and packed for holidays. Not much as I can’t tell what the weather will be like. I just hope the roads aren’t bad. Looking forward to a change of scenery.
Embarrassingly, I got lost this evening, consoled myself with popping into Aldi for vegetarian fruit pastilles
I hope your holiday goes smoothly, Lynne.I managed to sleep through! Nine glorious hours!
I'm gonna be fullabeanz today!
Morning all, slept through but feel tired and headachy. Busy day at work.Safe journey Lynne. Glad you slept Alicia
Morning all, bit of a drizzly start in the valley this morning, but the sun's doing its best. Going to be a long day of mostly Computer Science and Maths. Not that I mind either, but the classes I've got can be a little challenging! Still, service with a smile, eh?

Don't think I'd trade you.
Morning everyoneGrey, wet, not so cold. If Mary's travelling today she'll certainly be ok through this area.
We've decided not to go to the exhibition - it'll be a new(er) car and short stays for touring.
Have a good journey, Lynne.
Spent the last three days at a rural conference which was interesting. Also nice to have people feeding me excellent food far too often :-)
Was wondering where you were, Jim. Tell us all about it! What'd you eat?And good idea, Elizabeth. Proper bathrooms and restaurants instead of self catering in cramped conditions!
Good morning, I’m not going till Sunday, should get there Tuesday night but there’s lots of snow in France so hopefully it might have gone by then. I’ve got two more days of looking after the grandson, he’s a bit better today. That cold has really made him cranky but his normally sunny nature is making a comeback.
We had a sprinkling - like frosting on a cake - a couple of nights ago, but it didn't last long. There are now two of us with a limp. Buster has hurt his front paw on the same side as me. I'm hoping Iain won't be number three, haha. Buster really messed us about with his. Tuesday evening, he started moaning and groaning and holding his paw up, so we resolved to use the dreaded V word. Iain booked the appointment before he left for work Wednesday, but by the time I came downstairs, Buster was tootling in and out and only occasionally remembering to look miserable. So, I observed him a while, no limp. I cancelled the appointment.
Almost immediately, the limp became pronounced, he slumped miserably in his softest cushion, and held his paw out. I rebooked the vet.
When we got there, the vet had to slide out the bottom of the cage to get him. Buster dived straight back in and clung to the wire at the far end. They had to shake and tip him out. That's when the swearing began. Buster, not the vet. The air turned blue. He managed to escape from both vet and nurse and prowled the cubicle looking for a way out, eventually hiding behind me. In the end, the vet and the nurse were crawling around behind him with towels. They managed to give him a painkiller and antibiotics but, strangely, seemed unable to check his paw except by looking at it, lol. Buster never makes idle threats. In the end, I could have done with a sedative, too. Vet appointments are always so traumatic.
Anyway, at least he never holds a grudge. Once he's home (yowling all the way) it's all forgiven and forgotten. Except, possibly, by the vet. At least no one got bitten or clawed - this time.
They said bring him in again if it gets any worse. I'm praying it won't. One ordeal like that is quite enough, thank you.
You reminded me, Will. They do gluten free hobnobs now. Is that down to you, too? I must get some more in.

Read more carefully, please. ;) )
Have a lovely time, Lynne.

That sounds nice, Patti but I'll need to translate those quantities into proper measurements. We like to be precise over here, you know. None of this cup of that, half a cup of this. Lol. Precision goes with our stiff upper lips.
Using cups is much better than weighing everything as you lot do.You can use any sort of cup. A tea cup, a mug, even a drinking glass.
It's the ratios that's important.
I used to know who invented doing recipes like that...
I shall Google.
Here, silent zephyr, favourite songs on background, beautiful memories from yesterday, a cup of Nescafe and goodreads discussion thread...feels nice

proper breakfasts, porridge, cereals, grapefruit, then full choice of fry-up with sausage, bacon, black pudding, fried bread, hash brown, beans, mushrooms, scrambled egg, fried egg
For the main meals there was a nice choice, one day I had lamb, the next braised steak in a red wine sauce. The meat was as good as I've eaten anywhere. I know the owner, he is a farmer who diversified and although he's in with a hotel chain, he and his manager still source as much food as they can locally.
It was at this place

Must use that name in a book! It's almost too good to be true - Like Randy Bumgardner.Morning. done the shopping today. Hate it but when you run out of food...
Sister's poorly (but still in work (???) so our trip this weekend may be off. If it is, you'll still have me moaning on here! If not, I'll be out of your hair for a couple of days.
What about that great book, The End of Days, by R McGeddon? You have to say it out loud.Had a lovely day at the folks yesterday, the pub were wonderful and for the first time in a chuffing age it was dry and sunny so I was able to do some eyebombing on the way back from the pub to my parents. Results are variable but two are decent. Off on a round the country jaunt for half term. Should be good. Just have to make sure I load my kindle with lots of good stuff to read for the journeys.
Cheers
MTM
I don't understand using cups as a measurement, surely there is a standard cup size? I had someone last night trying to sell me an energy deal, I told him I didn't pay the bills and he said 'lucky you'!! Sounds a great place Jim.
