I don't cook much any more, but I try to do the calculations mentally to keep that part of the brain from deteriorating. It is like having to pour oil into the brain of the Tin Woodman from The Wizard of Oz.

Hope you get away soon Benjamin.

Passed it on to my thriller-writing friend. Not sure hers are this clean, though. It is easy to reach for the tropes and memes.

If I never see an actor sweep all the stuff off a table or desk again, I'll be a happy woman.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Congrats, Will!

I'm expecting I'll have the day off, but I'm in tomorrow with munchkins, so that's alright.

Got some sad news last evening. As you know, Dave's mother hasn't been doing well lately. She's been back in hospital after less than week at home after her hospital stay over Christmas.
The decision has been made for her to go into a care home ASAP as Dave's father can no longer manage her at home, in spite of caregivers being there almost constantly. Seems he wasn't allowing them to feed and water her, insisting he do it himself. So, she wasn't getting enough nourishment which has landed her back in hospital on a drip.
We're told she's not conscious for long now but is comfortable enough.
It's very sad. She was always a very formidable woman.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments If there is a care home close, maybe Dave's dad can get a bit more rest, and visit often. Physical care of another person is a very tough job. Hoping for the best.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Congrats Will. Hope all the ailing folks are feeling better. Noth McMini and I have had not quite colds since about November. Now worried we're a pair of Typhoid Marys incubating and spreading pathogens. McOther has just had a seriously horrible half flu half cold. It may have been the flu bug that's laid everyone else low for weeks. He will have these things for a couple of days and then I spend a week in bed with a temperature and ail for weeks!

Sorry to hear about Dave's mum Patti it's particularly tricky when you are a long way away.

Morning all.

Cheers

MTM.

It's a refreshing idea, must say.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Morning all, still don't feel well, temp appears to be back and congestion is making my face hurt from my eye to my jaw, and feeling sick regretting offering to work from home. Cars and roofs are a bit white so glad I'm not leaving the house

Sorry to hear about Dave's mum, do hope a care home can be found that his dad can visit.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning. Sad news about Dave's mum.
Just back from the village cake club. It was heaving. We had to put another table out ten minutes into the game. My little pep-talk last time about needing bakers, and that it's only £1 a time because people volunteer, worked a treat. Kath prayed for cake and behold, the heavens opened and there was a localised rain of cake!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Rain of cake!! Thats what we need !!

Hmm, raining cake sounds good. Sorry you aren't feeling better Benjamin

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Sorry for Dave’s parents. It’s very sad when elderly couples have to part for health reasons for both of them.
It’s been a funny old day here, little lad was still full of cold but not feeling ill so he wanted to go to school. I hustled him along and got there along with a couple of others to find it all locked up. It was a training day but we didn’t know. It wasn’t on the official website but it was on Facebook. Anyway we came home via the shops and I bought him a doughnut as a treat. He just got his doughnut out of the bag at home and the Dobe did a ‘fly by’ and snatched it from him. It was the last and only doughnut in the shop so there was no point in promising him another so all I heard for an hour until his Daddy collected him was a wailing ‘ I want my doughnut’.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Glad i worked from home, 2 hours sat working made me need a lie down! Think i might have to work from home tomorrow too

Elizabeth White | 1761 comments Morning everyone

Tax return in at 10.49 on the 31st and £1.23 ; ) paid one minute later. Got to love telephone banking! I just hope I don't get a penalty if the money arrives at HMRC after midnight. The things I put myself through.

Woke up half an hour ago with shin and foot cramp in both legs and have been hobbling around on the cold kitchen floor whilst drinking tonic water and eating a packet of crisps (haggis flavoured). It appears something worked- that's what an unusually brisk walk does for me at the mo'.

Sorry to see about Dave's mum, Patti. Options for retirement living are really not great.

I had some sort of bug a week or so ago, fortunately it didn't seem to be full blown 'flu. I've taken to holding my breath if I have to walk through a cough or sneeze miasma in a supermarket. I hope all you sufferers are starting to feel a bit better now.

Back off to bed shortly - have a good day y'all.

Lindsay (kiwi365) | 3672 comments Morning all,

Sad morning here in the Taylor house. One of our piggies, Phineas, has passed away during the night. Not the best thing to wake up to.

Hope you all have a good day.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Morning all, woke up less congested and got excited. However by the time I'd got downstairs I was burning up and feeling sick. So working from home to sort out the two deadlines.

RIP little piggie Lindsay, not a nice way to wake up. Hope you don't get a fine Elizabeth and hope the cramp went

message 2437: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Sorry to hear about Phineas. Pets become part of the family.
I remember hearing that the quinine in tonic water helps with cramps. Not sure how much quinine is in modern tonic, however.
Writing day today!

The school bus today was hilarious. Just a chorus of coughing. Some teachers are on their fourth bout of illness.

They really need to close the school for a couple days and give it a deep clean.

Six staff members have been in hospital on a drip with pneumonia in the last three weeks. Not sure how many kids.

No pneumonia vaccine available here.

We need some really bad weather so the school is forced to close, I reckon.
