Alicia, this might confuse you more. My husbands uncle used to put the teapot in the oven at the side of the fire to keep it warm. It could still be there hours later, brewing, or mashing as they say in Nottingham, either way it was very dark brown. My grandmother used to put condensed milk in her tea. No rain all day. Is this a Welsh record?

Yep, some brew and some mash - we stewed. We had a metal teapot that sat on the cooker ring and bubbled away. Tea is stewing, we'd say.Actually, think I'll have one final cuppa before bed.

Morning all.I recall my Grandmother's teapot which was never ever washed. For that matter, it was used so often during the day that it rarely went cold. The inside of the teapot was stained a deep deep brown. I hate to think what it was doing to her insides!

My previous teapot was coloured deep brown, to avoid that very issue.

I too had relatives who used to keep the teapot in the oven all day to keep the tea hot and stewed.
Hairdressers today. Growing out the layers is driving me closer to insanity than I am usually. Still, it's close to Aldi and they were selling a nice flavoured organic pinot gridge a couple of weeks ago, so I'll stock up if they still have it. The proverbial silver lining!
My ma In law had an aluminium teapot, every now and then she would put a scoop of persil in it and boil it up. My husband used to hate it when she did that. Tea tasted vile and soapy for a few days. He now has a little brown pot of his very own and if ever I need to wind him up I threaten to scour it.

My mother had a stainless steel teapot. It was still brown on the inside!
Was surprised when I got to work and found we still have snow in the car park - where it was ploughed into a heap!!
amazing how long snow will last in a heapOne year we emptied a slurry pit in a cold spell, without stirring it to break up the crust.
The pit was filled again and that summer when I tried to stir it up we had lumps of 'ice' coming up. Permafrost insulated by the muck on top of it :-)
Tea seems to have kicked off a lot of memories.The States has a coffee tradition established - the husband goes through the gourmet beans/grind your own/special appliance at least three times a day. I just ignore it.
My beverage of choice, 2-3 measured quantities, is Diet Coke, and none after 3PM, delivered to me in a nice clean can which all I have to do for is to put the things in the refrigerator. Husband kindly keeps me supplied, even brings another box up from the basement as needed. I'm spoiled - and caffeinated to a known and exact degree.
Still isn't enough, but it helps.
I'm not very fond of tea either, but Coke really is the work of the devil. Diet or otherwise I'm not sure why anyone would want to drink it.Curiously mild here today and blowing a hoolie. Managed to get the washing dried outdoors though (and it was still there when I went to collect it - professional level pegging skills).
Found out this afternoon I still don't really like Jaffa cakes. Occasionally I try one just to make sure, as I have this vague feeling I'm missing out...
Many people have told me I shouldn't be washing our teapot. Gross.I put it in the dishwasher at least a couple times a week.
Dave's mother gave us a stainless steel teapot to use in the flat in Barry. I won't use it. It makes the tea taste horrid.
The other "never wash" thing we had was the tatty pot. It was a baking tray of lard/ fat/ beef dripping which was only used for roast spuds. After every use it would be allowed to cool and re-solidify. Then used again without ever being washed.I suppose the idea was that the roasting killed off any bugs. Or something like that.
Oh frik, that's gross. I'm surprised it didn't writhe with maggots.
I did something like that with the beef dripping when I was first married. Put it in a basin and added to it. One day I got to the jelly bit at the base and saw it was green and furry. Oh dear.

I only like Coke with amaretto but it messes with my sleep so a rare treat
Avoid the soapy taste by soaking teapot using soda crystals, scrub and then rinse out with boiling water. Destroys the inner patina mind.My first mother-in-law used beef dripping for chip frying and I never saw that pan emptied out either. Having said that, that's where I get my craving for butties filled with chips cooked in dripping.
Just read an old story on Fb citing the aspartame content of diet soda as the cause of near death, although I'm not sure whether this is still a permitted additive.

When the wind is in SSW it sets up a whistling in one of our bedroom windows, it also makes something else drone. OH moans about the droning, not sure which of them makes more noise. Anyway the wind swung round to the west and although it was stronger it was quieter. It really rained hard here this afternoon. OH took my car to get his new light bulbs and had to drive down the middle of the road to avoid the floods. He’s replaced those energy saving fluorescent coils with LEDs after that one caught fire. Cost him a lots but it’s cheaper than a fire would have.
Either I am hallucinating, or my downstairs neighbour has gone overboard with the garlic this evening!
When my neighbour across the road in France makes aioli, it makes my eyes water. I’ve got another friend who visits and long after she’s gone you can still smell the garlic.

Swap for a different show and different alcohol, sounds great. I'm contemplating taking a day off, and refusing to do anything but lie on the sofa watching tv. Neighbour thinks I'd be bored and stiffed, I'm not convinced!
