Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Looking forward to hearing what you choose if you have a choice to make, and as much of the how as you care to share.

It's exciting - though maybe that's not the word someone in the midst of it all would use. Crossing my fingers.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments No, exciting isn't how I feel Alicia! I think it's harder because there are no guarantees my current temporary contract will lead to a permanent role, despite everyone wanting to keep me, so I'm potentially choosing between a permanent job and a temporary job, and sounds scary to not go for the permanent one, but now I'm not sure I'd like it as much.

message 18003: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments That's tough. You have to do the best for yourself, with no guarantees. Is there someone you trust you can talk to? Do they have job counselors available?

Funding is part of the problem, if you like a job, but they can't afford to keep it open. So sorry. Nothing useful to offer.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening. one of my colleagues had an unexpected day off, so I tried stepping up and dealing with the inbox in her absence, line manager seemed to appreciate someone offering to do it, and I'm a grade higher than my other colleague. Was supposed to go for a walk with G after work, but she hadn't finished packing, but needed something from Lidl, so walked there with her, then ended up walking to both Sainsbury's and Co-op to try and hit my step count, glad I went to the co-op though, got something reduced that I wasn't even aware they sold! Just as we were about to walk into Lidl, I got a phone call to tell me I didn't get the library job, she briefly said that I didn't show enough personal skills, they offered feedback, which I asked for in writing, which I'll get in a couple of weeks once their annual leave is over. Despite the fact I wasn't sure if I wanted the job, I actually got upset when she told me. Now I should probably think of a new plan, it's very odd not having job security after so long

message 18005: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Their loss. I would have been upset, too.

But at least they called - so many employers don't.

They've made this decision easier - but, as you say, the long-term will need addressing. Hope the job you seem to be enjoying now sticks for a while, and maybe leads to something permanent more to your liking.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Thanks Alicia, I think because it's a council position, they have to notify you either way, though to give them credit, they didn't need to make sure it was before their annual leave. Yes, the decision has been made for me, and now I have to decide whether to just stick out my contract and see if it can become permanent, or look for something permanent.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Desley to send you some positive Scottish vibes an old saying we have 'what's for you, won't go by you'
So don't fret, you'll get the job you're meant to have.
All the experience you are gaining doing new things just now must be good for you too, you just need to hang on in there!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, that was a frustrating day at work, everything I touched was messy and awkward, or people asking me questions I don't yet know the answer to, so lots of calls to my line manager, though was glad late afternoon when she said she'd had a similar day and had to ask her boss loads of questions, and one of the ones I got asked, she had to ask her boss about, so that clearly isn't a common situation. Needless to say I had a headache by the end of the day. She said that I should be proud of getting as far as the interview, and that it is good experience, and while she is sad for me that I didn't get it, she's happy that they aren't losing me just yet - my buddy said 'boo. But yay'. Had to look up opening times of one of the libraries this afternoon, had a quick nosy at the Sat opening hours, and only one library is open 10-3, two are 9.30-3, and the rest are 9-1, so no idea what libraries you'd get sent to to work 10-3, unless you are starting after they open and staying 2 hours after they close! Had a nice nature walk after work, saw a new cat at one point, seemed very friendly, started rolling over on it's side, grabbed by hand, gave me a little love nip then licked me, and as I went to leave, grabbed my hand again. Can't remember if I mentioned, but when I was walking round the pond, there were loads of tiny fish, not sure where they have come from as I don't think the stream feeds into that pond, will be interesting to see how they grow. When I was coming back, there was a fisherman who caught a poo bag on his fishing line, he said it isn't the first time!

Thanks R. I'm going with 'what is meant to be will be'. Yes, it's good doing new things and adapting so quickly after such a long time with one company has been a good confidence boost, I always wondered what else I could do.

message 18009: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments And you handled all the messy and awkward and frustrating stuff - with the proper procedures and help. No more can be asked of anyone.

Maybe you'll have another chance at a library when this job is over, but for sure you'll have a lot more experience and skills, and people recommending you who have seen how you learn and cope.

Made me think of the beginning of Kipling's 'If':
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs...

You've got this.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, a lot easier day today, there was only me and my line manager, although in typical fashion, a few things that should have been straight forward ended up not being straight forward! Mixed weather day, couldn't get my washing out, but did get out after work and hit my step count, then went to shut G's curtains and have even more of an obstacle course than last time! Glad it's a long weekend, it's been a tough week. And the cleaner is coming next Wed, so I don't have to do much housework, just some tidying and things I don't expect her to do like washing up.

Yes, I coped, and while I needed help, I haven't been there two months yet, so they can't expect everything perfectly (and I do find errors made by all my colleagues) or without checking to make sure I've done things right. I'm going to have to have a think about the library job and see if there is ever the possibility of just being based at one library, rather than a two week rota potentially covering all 16. But maybe staying where I am for the rest of the year, when my contract is up, and seeing what happens in the next few months is the best option and it's looking like it was a good one to say yes to, ironically my line manager started through the agency 3 years ago.

Just to second Rosemary here. You are picking up new skills, you were having second thoughts about the library job. Onwards and upwards :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, went to local market town, popped into the Folklore Centre to say hi, it was quiet when I arrived and the other volunteer I got on with had popped in, so had a chat with them. Then said I'd stay and have a coffee, she made me one but before she had chance to make hers and sit down with me, customers turned up wanting food and drink! She refused to take money from me, so I put £5 in the donation box, they are closed two days next week, so will be down on money. Both exhibitions were interesting, going to see if G wants to come back with me. Then went to see if I could replace my trainers, they had the identical ones in, but this year had a mauve type colour, I didn't really want ones with white soles, but couldn't resist the colour! Then did some food shopping, more than usual as next week's pay doesn't cover my bills, never mind leave me with money for food! Got back way later than expected, then took my soft plastic to co-op to hit my step count, before relaxing. After tea I felt like I could do some tidying, but when I tried to put the fork in the bin and the rubbish in the sink, decided that sitting reading was the best solution! Went to shut G's curtains and tried out new shoes, did wonder if I should have maybe bought both pairs, and used the grey for walking, and the purple for craft fairs. A has been asking me advice about prices and signs, I think maybe she appreciates someone to bounce suggestions off, especially as I have bought from other places so we can compare to make sure they are in line with others.

Yes, and who knows what I'll end up with! I probably should be a bit more worried not having a permanent job than I am!

message 18013: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Once you get locked into a new permanent job, the freedom to experiment will recede, and you'll miss some of these choices as all your energy goes to the new job.

Enjoy this while it lasts - so you don't regret things. Go back and buy the other pair of trainers?

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments That is a good point Alicia. I will buy the other pair of trainers, especially as I hate buying shoes so even if I don't wear them much this year, as they aren't waterproof, I'll have them for next year, walking in the brand new pair reminded me just how comfy they are. Probably shouldn't go mad and buy them in blue too though!

message 18015: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments You CAN waterproof shoes - there's a spray for that; be sure to do the seams as the instructions recommend.

You could do it first for the ones you will use the most for outdoor walking - I always used to do all our hiking boots.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments I do use waterproof spray on my boots, but wasn't sure I could use it on these, as they are mainly made of canvas. Should probably redo my walking boots, though think this is their last winter, unless I put insoles in them.

message 18017: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments There's a risk of discoloration - but modern fabrics should be color-fast. I wouldn't do it, or not first, on your best pair, the one you want to wear to work. Worth a thought.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, craft fair at a new venue today, I was dubious about this one, partly because it's in the next village, have never heard of it and it's up a back street with limited parking, so wasn't sure if people would know where it is, but turns out the venue leaflet the local area well because of that, and partly because years of fundraising have taught me that August, especially the bank holiday weekend, isn't the best month to fundraise. Despite that, it wasn't our worst fair, and even without me being the best customer (and I spent less than £10), we took enough to cover the stall and make some profit. Got a lovely wood engraved bookmark, with the phrase 'A girl in love with cats and books' in a kind of purple, which even though I don't read many paperbacks anymore, just felt like it was too me to not buy! Had to switch G's car on, I was going to move it slightly up and down, but realised I don't know how to get a manual car to move! Then nipped in Sainsbury's as I realised that this new travel mug is handy for when I lie in bed in the morning watching TV, fits the equivalent of 1.5 cups in it, so won't have to get up because my tea has gone cold, Lucy should appreciate it. I did buy the more expensive one as I'm potentially going to be using them 4 consecutive days, so at least if I don't get time to rinse one out, I'll have a back up, and should hopefully not get them mixed up!

Yes I was going to try it on the pair I'm going to buy, and have decided to buy the blue ones if they have them in my size, it's so hard to find shoes that fit and are comfy, so seems daft not to. Plus my grey ones looked too sporty for work, whereas the purple ones will be fine, as long as they don't clash with my dresses, and maybe the blue ones will be too.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, typical bank hol weather, started sunny, turned cloudy and cool and have had intermittent rain since 3pm, annoyingly towels were only 90% dry. I had a lie in, which meant I couldn't go for my walk as early as I wanted to, as I wanted to get the washing pegged out first. Had intentions to go to the bird hide, but the closer I was getting to the lake, the busier it was seeming, got to the front and decided I didn't want to go to the bird hide, so turned round and came back home. Good timing though, there was a fisherman (I'd seen them on the way up catching the massive pike) was staring at the opposite bank, so I stopped to see what it was, and they pointed out a young deer to me, they were surprised to see one at that time (just before 12) as they thought they only came out in dusk and dawn, but said I've seen them at all times. Then noticed there were 3 new ducks on the canal, not 100% sure what they are, google gave 2 options, possibly a hybrid mallard. They gave me some bread to try and get them downstream of their line, they were really aggressive with each other and the mallards. Checked out a table top sale on the way home, then have just alternated between chores and chilling on the sofa.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, despite being August, it felt very cold today, was chilly walking to work, then freezing in our building, one person went and bought a cardigan at lunch, and another person had prepared and had socks and a shawl in her bag! The toilets were warm though randomly! Very busy day, unexpectedly short staffed again. Went to retail park after work for cat litter, wasn't impressed at Halloween stuff in two, and Christmas stuff in another. Got home and had less than 2k steps to hit my step count, so went for a little walk, looking like I'll do the whole of August, I wasn't expecting to do so much of it.

Jim | 21809 comments good to see the small fairs doing OK. It shows the importance of getting the word out locally

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, short staffed again, colleagues dad passed away this morning, not sure how long she'll be off for. Was bouncing it down this morning, then blue skies by 11.30. Did a walk after work, the unusual ducks were out again, weirdly they were cuddling together and tucking their beaks into their back to go to sleep on the concrete bank rather than the grass one, they weren't bothered by people getting close to them. When walking through nature reserve, I startled a heron, which I felt very guilty about. Bumped into one of my new colleagues and her dog on the way home, had a little fuss and chat, then got home and an ex colleague had messaged to say she'd gone to feed the ducks and saw me walking away, but I was too far to shout to. Nice to have someone clean my house today.

Yes, it's why we are trying not to give up just on one poor day at an event, I've fundraised for enough years to know that July and August can have poor turnouts due to hols, plus wax melts are probably more popular in Autumn/Winter, I know the candle shop say sales aren't great over the summer. We get lots of compliments though

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, had some new things to do at work today, think I managed OK. Did have a couple of conversations with line manager, there were interviews yesterday for a higher grade than mine, one of my colleagues and a bloke from another team in our department applied so if one of those get promoted, there will be a permanent job, but maybe on the other team, but if that is an option, I could shadow him for an hour or so to see what it's like. Then when we had a chat this afternoon, she told me that one of our engineers normally hates getting new starters as they do things wrong, he gives them a week or two, then starts complaining, and he hasn't done that with me, which is a rarity apparently. I had mistyped a code I'd sent him and when he rang to query it and I said I'd make sure that didn't happen again, he was just 'it's fine, it's a typo', and he does like to explain things to me, which I appreciate. Did have an interesting encounter at lunch, neighbour was outside as she was letting the semi-ferals out, as soon as Jasper saw my door was open and Lucy was on the doorstep, he came running over, he's always been fascinated by her and calls for her, even though she's never been nice to him, even today she was just growling at him till neighbour came and moved him. Then the neighbour who recently lost her cat came and offered her the leftover food etc, felt so sorry for her, neighbour clearly wasn't listening, as I heard her say 'treats would have sped up her kidney failure' when she'd just said she'd bought them the last weekend in an attempt to keep her eating. Then neighbour came over and offered it to me, as the wet food was senior food, I took them, I think she did it to let me know why she'd got them, but I pointed out I already knew about Tiddles. She then started telling me about one of her ex lodgers whose mum died suddenly this week, I didn't mind hearing about that, but then she started telling me about her niece, and I was stood there thinking 'not sure I care, I'd rather be finishing my lunch, only got minutes before I'm back at work', she did eventually say 'I'll stop disturbing your lunch', all very odd! Tried spitting as I finished work, but went for my walk anyway, the new ducks were at least on the grassy bank today, but they do all huddle together, don't think the mallards do, and the geese certainly don't!

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Sometimes people just need to talk, and they don't realize they're monopolizing someone else and chewing up their time. Kind of you to listen for a while.

message 18025: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments If the chap is any good, and you listen to him, you'll learn. If he isn't any good you can still learn :-)

But I think the proof is that you're the one new starter he seems happy with. In a few months you won't be a new starter, just another team member he's used to and who he can rely on

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, the forecast rain hasn't happened, and might even get to 24 tomorrow, so better shave my legs tomorrow, might get chance to wear summer dress and sandals next week (though if I do, I'll be putting socks in my bag just in case!) Had to ring one of the engineers this morning, thanked him for explaining how long a couple of things take so I can book things correctly, he asked about my last job and when he realised it was nothing like this one, he was stunned at how quickly I'd picked things up and apparently had been telling the other engineer on Wed that he'd been impressed at how I'd picked things up. Line manager didn't get chance to help much today, but felt I got through a decent amount and towards the end, I did things out of order just to box off 5 easy things in the time it would have taken me to do the 1 I should have done as we work in date order. Apologised after rather than asking for permission before! Nice walk after work, was funny when I was coming back along the canal, looked for the new ducks who were on a patch near 3 geese, all 6 were grooming their chests, it was like synchronised grooming! Did get warm enough to take my coat off which was nice. Walking home, the people who run the coffee shop were in the chippy and waved at me through the window, so walked in to say hello, and updated her on the library job. She said they've been quiet this week due to hols, their new cafe has been busier during the hols as it's linked to a museum, apart from the rare sunny days we've had. Called in Sainsbury's to see if there was anything nice reduced and noticed they had mince pies for sale, refused to look at them, but suspect the use by date will be before Christmas.

One thing I am glad of with this job is that we don't have targets, so if you get someone like the woman yesterday who needed 15 mins to persuade her to ring the finance department as her issue wasn't with us, then it's fine

message 18027: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments This all sounds very positive - they are lucky to have you and your organized thinking.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments It does Alicia, it's nice to know after being somewhere for so long and having some colleagues take advantage of my good nature to be so well thought of so quickly and to know that I am picking up something completely new and different so quickly, my last job had altered so much that I wasn't actually sure what kind of jobs I could do. It's also nice that A is asking my opinion on things to do with the wax melts, like pricing and design, we do seem to make a good team.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, had a bit of a disappointing start to the day, I tried to be lazy when picking my wax melt at 6.40 am and not switch the light one, and got the wrong one - the one I picked was nice, but disappointed as I wanted to try something new! Was too nice to stay in bed for too long though, much to Lucy's disappointment. Went for my walk, but my knee had been sore this morning, and when walking, my hips and toe were painful, so was contemplating whether the walk to the bird hide was a good idea when I bumped into one of the wildlife photographers, who told me there was a rowing gala on, so I just went to the front, looked at the lake and turned back home! I did ask him about the ducks, as he's photographed them, he thinks they are domesticated mallards. He showed me a pic he took of the blue moon that got on the local news (they show local pictures when they do the weather, he's had his on 9 times this year!), it was an amazing picture with an airplane in front of it. Walking home, I bumped into a man who was taking his tortoise Geoff out for some fresh air, he was just wandering on the path, was allowed to touch him and take a pic, he was fascinated with my feet. He gave him some tenderstem broccoli and it was fascinating watching him use his foot to hold it down to rip a piece off to eat, was so cool, hope I bump into them again. Got home, did a couple of chores, showered (turns out if you shower long enough to shave your legs and wash your hair that you set off the smoke alarm, that never used to happen!), got the washing pegged out, then my plan was to sit outside and read, only it had clouded over by then, so had to sit on the sofa and read instead. Just waiting for G to ring, going to watch a bit of TV at hers, but we both need an early night, I'm so excited for our fair tomorrow, first one with the new autumn scents.

How kind of him to take Geoff out - it must get boring being in a box all the time.

Even a tortoise must like a change of air

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments He had a female tortoise that he lost at the beginning of the year that he took all over, even down to London, he's only had Geoff a few months, so just starting to do things with him, apparently he hasn't been eating much this past few days, but he offered him 4 different kind of foods and he tried them all apart from the courgette, so his owner was thrilled at that, so I think he appreciated it. Was surprised at how fast he was speeding on the path though. He doesn't live in a box at home Alicia, he has a set up for him so he has his heat lamp and stuff, but he can free roam - my old boss had a tortoise that had something similar.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Our chinchilla had the guest room to herself, and slept in a roll-out shoe box under the bed. I visited her - we allowed her at first to roam the living room and dining room, but she chewed everything!

Though she now lives in Florida with the ex-neighbor of my former assistant and Real Estate agent's daughter, a much better situation for her. I'm still waiting for a promised photo.

People have bonded with all kinds of animals.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, we were a bit all over the place setting up at the fair, because we had new things, and had taken some summer sale items, so had extra things to fit on the table. Wasn't a great turnout, had loads of compliments, but didn't translate to many sales, but two were a stall opposite us, who are the kind of people who only buy what they need. bought enough till our next fair there in Nov, so hopefully we have some repeat customers. Don't know what happened to my maths, I thought I wanted 12, changed my mind on 2, but still want 12 - luckily most are ones we are keeping the rest of the year, so only need to buy the autumn ones before the end of Oct, then can get the rest in Dec. Wore my purple maxi dress that I've not worn for a while as it was a bit tight last time I did, but fit really well yesterday, G said it looked nice and a stallholder was raving about how well the colour suited me. Did come home with cake, homemade rhubarb curd and got a present for G, first time I've bought something for someone other than me! They had a lovely handmade chocolate stall, I was good this week, but the next one is just after my birthday, so will allow myself some then. Did a quick walk when we got back, A's car said it was 24 today, then finished my book.

Aww, how good of you to allow her to have her own room, hope you do get an update on her. I was impressed at how interactive a tortoise could be, he even seemed to react to me calling his name.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments She needed a lot of room to run around - they are very active when they're up - they ran in herds in South America.

Took some serious cleaning time periodically - she climbed everywhere. Got behind the dresser once when my husband moved a box - there are videos on Youtube of them getting out under a door which was a little shorter than most.

How nice to have a favorite dress fit well again. All that walking! And you keep mentioning being careful about treats.

We're both early Sep. birthdays, then.

We had brunch on the patio today for the second time in a row - had a good chat with some other residents - came home and crashed for 1.5 hours. I like being social - but it wipes me out now, especially if it goes on for more than 45 min. or so. For the first time in a while, though, I put myself down for a nap the minute we got home, and I hope that helps.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, glorious day today, car said it was 26 when I got in it, phone said 27 when I got home. Glad I'd braved a summer dress and sandals, did get a bit chilly this morning, but then it got overly warm late afternoon. We were fully staffed today, but don't seem to have done much on clearing the backlog. Needed to do 2k steps when I got home, just did a quick walk, not the route I was going to take, as there was a gaggle of geese looking determined not to let people past so had to go the other way!

I bet it took some cleaning, don't they need regular sand baths too? I certainly don't feel like I've lost weight, until my dress fit better! Sorry, I meant the next time we go to that event at beginning of Nov, ironically A's birthday is 3 day's after mind. Glad you've been able to be social, even if it means that you do need a nap after it. Hopefully you can find a balance of time spent socialising and a nap.

message 18037: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Yup - very fine sand bath. I had a very large glass jar, put it on its side, and she bathed in there - kept the dust confined to the box the jar was in.

After was a bust - no energy, even after a long nap - but you have to get out sometime. I think we talked too long - but they joined us after we'd started, and it WAS such a lovely California day.

Geese can be aggressive. When biking on the path next to the Delaware River, my husband was attacked by a flying goose! I always says to stay away at mating season and when they have goslings - they're not quite rational then.

Glad you got to wear the summer dress.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Oh, that's a clever way of doing a sand bath without too much cleaning, not heard of that before. Yes, it's no wonder so many people are wary of geese, and these are well used to being fed and don't always appreciate being ignored! Forgot to say, if you have an early September birthday, yours will be soon won't it?

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments We're finally getting some summer weather here, it was glorious today. There have been dolphins, a minke whale and a baking shark all swimming about and I've missed them every time! Seen some good photos and videos though, some paddleboarders were very lucky.

That's easy! My husband's birthday is Nov. 2.

I misread your post.

Is their participation required? Or do you just proceed whether they are interested or not? Is more than swallowing required? Too bad there's no way to explain to animals that something is for their own good - they wouldn't be happy being wormy. Worm-ridden?

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, another sunny day. Bumped into one of the managers in the kitchen this morning, her greeting was 'how lovely to see your smiley face', told her about not getting the library job and her response was 'selfishly, yes', told her she could have me longer and she was 'fantastic'. Line manager wasn't in today, so that manager was in charge of us, but we didn't need to bother her. I applied for a locker so I could leave stuff there, asked her where the bank was I'd been allocated, and her response was 'now you've got a locker, that's it, you are here permanently, you can't leave!'. Sat outside today and had my lunch, which was nice, and just had to do 2k steps when I got home, so went and had a look for the new ducks on the canal, then a quick check for reductions in the shops, I do that way too often!

Well, that will be easy to remember Alicia! Shame you couldn't have left the heifers to their own business Jim!

we now use 'pour on' absorbed through the skin, I just wander among them pouring an appropriate dose down the middle of their back :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, another nice day, taking advantage of WFH and getting blankets washed that are hard over winter without a dryer. Ended up with a very tricky case this pm, one of my colleagues said she was glad I'd picked it up! Went for a walk after work, there was a family feeding the geese/ducks, could only see 2 of the new ducks and felt a bit sad, but when I was coming home, all 3 were there, must remember to take some food tomorrow. A bloke stopped to let me past as he said I was probably in more of a rush than him, I said I'm only in a rush to get my steps done then get home to read, he said that he'd got rid of 500 books and had none left in his house, I said I didn't know how I'd cope with that. Unfortunately he didn't get chance to finish that conversation.

Oh, that sounds nicer for all involved

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, was a bit surprised when I woke up and it was overcast and the car was dusty, radio told me that there had been some Saharan dust in the rain that fell overnight, then I remembered this has happened before. Brightened up though, if anything, felt warmer than yesterday. Morning went OK at work, seemed to either get no answer or easy things, but that didn't last, was in the middle of something tricky when our system went down, so tried to find things to do to pass the time, then an issue with something else - glad of flexi time as I had to work late. My 'buddy' took advantage of it being quiet to ring and suggest we met up in a couple of weeks to see what else I might want to learn, she's decided I'm not going anywhere, so can be taught other things! I told her I'd have a think and that I'd be happy if I did stay, there is job satisfaction and it's a nice group of people, and she told me that it's a pleasure to have me, which is nice after being somewhere for so long, you never know if people approach you just because you've been there so long you know a lot. Although since neighbour fell out with me, it's amazing how popular I seem! Went for my walk after work, remembered to pick up the last of the duck food, again, only two of the new ducks, they look very longingly when you go with food, although they are seemingly more used to bread than seeds, as it took a few goes for them to twig, by which point everything else had come over - two of the geese seemed annoyed by being ignored, one jumped out close enough to wet me, the other bit that one's bum to make it move to get closer to me, at that point I told them they were scary and left, with a bit of food left. When I was coming home, the two new ducks were cuddling up together on the concrete bank, so gave them what little I had left, they allow you to get so close to them, if I'd been brave enough, I suspect I could have had them either take it from my hand, or stroke them, then had a female mallard following me hopeful for something!
