yes, we're getting the high temperatures here for once. Bit too high and would like some rain.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, feel very tired today, but at least the workman doesn't come on a weekend and he's hoping for an early finish tomorrow, so just got to get through tomorrow! Went for a walk with friend this morning, and then had a shower and washed my hair at her house, really don't like her shower! We ended up in the cat room longer than planned this morning as he realised the pipes were all redundant, so he removed them all - bless him, he went to get some tools and asked if it was OK to leave the ladders in, or would the cats try and get up there! On the plus side, it meant I had to empty a corner I've been meaning to do for ages, and I actually haven't put everything back, I realised they don't use some of the toys so I dumped them there, so I have another bag of rubbish, I mopped that part of the floor and hoovered the scratch post and see if they use it again. Got 3/4 of one of the panels left, asked friend if she could use it, and it'll fit as her bath panel, quite happy she wanted to use it.

Glad you've got an assistant and feel you've made great headway Alicia, and it's great she'll take you out and there is somewhere for mobility devices. I assume it's worse up there R, we might have a warm sun but the wind ranges from 'nice gentle breeze' to 'where is the winter coat' in a very short space of time.

You'll be so thrilled when it's all finished, tidied up, and the workmen gone - but it IS nice that they're paying attention to what the kitties need.

Hang in there - just a little bit longer.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, that was a long day and not even had tea yet! Got up this morning, put my cup of tea on the shelf while I went int he bathroom like I always do, and something fell off the shelf, went to pick it up and realised the shelf wasn't straight - not sure if he's caught it, or the vibrations from taking the pipework out of the loft has disturbed it, so he needs to fix that too! Workman came about 8.15, he wanted an early dart but got carried away with sealing the panels so I could use the bath this weekend and didn't leave till 5.30 - and now I actually can't face using my bath until the room is finished! Stayed in all morning, except nipping to ratty neighbours to use the loo, got really annoyed with annoying neighbour at lunch, the workman had gone for lunch, and he decided to put the washing line back up to peg his bedding out, so had to go and ask him to take it in, then he wanted to look at the bathroom so didn't get a proper lunch. Went for a podiatry app this pm, she was impressed with how clear my nails were, I told her what I'd picked up from the cosmetic nail person, so she told me to do it fortnightly, I had my injection yesterday, so that'll work nicely, doing them both in the same week, but she agreed with me that I don't have a fungal nail infection, so could have gel nails if I wanted, but she has left me on an open app, so I'll stick with the NHS. Did some shopping on the way home, got home at 3, and neighbour had put her washing out, so couldn't park where I've been all week, so had to park outside another neighbours house, knocked on to check if it was OK, she told me anytime, don't need to ask, but I shall, every time, just in case! She's dogsitting this weekend, a gorgeous cockapoo who kept giving me hugs and kisses! Decided to stay in as I knew he wanted to get off early, so was getting a bit fed up of waiting, and couldn't even get in to feed the cats. Did a quick canal walk after he left, as today is 60 consecutive days of hitting my step count and bumped into an ex colleague, who was planning on ringing me to see how I was doing, so that was nice. Can't wait to go to bed!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, much better day today. Been lovely and warm, got up to 28. Had a rubbish night sleep, so refused to get up the first two times I woke up, but relented at 9am, had to wake Lucy up! Went for a canal walk, was quite breezy, but part way along it turned from a cold breeze to a warm breeze, bumped into my friends' parents and had a chat with them, saw a duck with 8 really tiny ducklings (they wouldn't come close enough for me to get a pic), I'd only said to friend on Thu that I haven't seen any for a while, then just as I was turning round, there was 2 geese with one quite small gosling. We had a food and drink festival and craft fair on today, went to the craft fair first as surrogate aunty and friend's cousin had a stall there, her parents were there too, so had a nice family reunion! Food festival was heaving, luckily I didn't want to eat anything as there wasn't much vegi options and most of the stalls had massive queues, so just had a quick wander, said hello to coffee shop owner who'd nearly sold out of cakes, so glad I didn't want one! Then when I got back, I could hear the music, so couldn't hear the TV or anything, so sat outside in the sun reading for an hour and a half while I finished my book, think it was just what I needed actually, I feel less drained.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments What a lovely refreshing day. Glad you saw babies.

I just volunteered to look after a fellow resident's cat for a week. We got every single piece of information I could think of - including Bella's vet - so I hope we won't need it. Bella investigated us carefully, so we won't seem too strange to her. Wish me luck.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, another really hot day. Had to wait for friend to let me know when it was fine to go round for a shower, did a quick canal walk first and bumped into other friend's parents again, sure I've seen more of her parents this year than her! Saw a youngish deer, a duck family that looked very similar to yesterday's except there was only 5 ducklings, a few large shoals of tiny fish and one really chunky adult fish. On the way round to friend's, I bumped into Malachi and his mum, stopped to have a cuddle, told her where I was off to and she said if she'd known it was this week, I could have used her shower which I thought was really sweet. Had my shower, then friend said she'd have to chuck me out as she was going having a cup of tea with another friend, then realised that we'd met, so asked her if I could go to, which she was fine with, stayed for ages, was really nice sitting in the sun having a chat with her and her mum though. We nipped into Lidl on the way back, when I got home ratty neighbour was sat getting some fresh air, so had a quick chat, had only been in the house 10 mins when it started bouncing down and thunder and lightning - at one point it was that close it felt like the house shook! Still quite warm though. ETA - when I went to friend's friend, she has two pet rabbits, her daughter brought the female one over so I could stroke her, she was very cuddly, proper animal day today!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, had a fantastic wildlife day (and did 12k steps), went up to the lake for a few hours to get away from the workman (and there are public toilets), on the canal on the way up saw a group of geese with 13 goslings, some were big enough that they had adult coloured feathers. Bumped into another friend with her parents and dog, so had a quick chat, as she volunteers for the group who arranges events in the village, so thought she might have known some events friend's cousin could have a stall at. On the way round to the bird hide, I realised the lake is getting really low again, went in the bird hide and one of the local wildlife photographers was there, started feeding some ducklings that were grown up enough that they looked like ducks, just still a bit fluffy, then some cute black headed gulls came for food - at that point, the swans finally realised it was worth moving, so got to feed them and two cygnets. While I was doing that, someone else came in and was looking the other direction and pointed out a roe deer (on a bit that is normally under water). Went round to the cafe to use the loo and sat out in the sun reading my book for a while. Something made me go back in the bird hide on the way back, got told I'd just missed the kingfisher! Was chatting to the blokes for a bit, and they pointed out the heron was there, then just as I was about to go, the kingfisher did a fly by, just got a glimpse of the orange and blue! As I left the bird hide, I got a weird feeling that the bathroom furniture was delayed till Thu. Came home through the nature reserve and was looking for trout when a bloke asked if there was any, so I said I'd just seen 3, apparently about 2pm, the kingfisher likes to fly down the river to find some to eat! Had a chat with him for a while, and he told me of some walks I didn't know about. Got back to be told that there had been an issue with the delivery and the sink etc wouldn't be here till Thu! As long as he leaves me with a shower and a toilet when he leaves tomorrow, I'll be fine for another couple of days. As it was 28 when I got home (felt sorry for the workman, it was 20 when he arrived just after 8!), I decided to sit outside and finish my book

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments What an odd thought - but otherwise sounds like a lovely day AND you got your steps.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, mixed day, really hot again, getting a bit of a heat rash. Went for another walk up to the lake, the bird hide was heaving when I arrived, so just said hello, and asked if what I'd seen on the post was the cormorant, we had both those and herons today. Decided to try out a path I noticed yesterday that I don't think I've ever used, even though I've been going since a child, but the cafe was also heaving, so the bench I sat on yesterday was taken. Went back to the bird hide, was a bit quieter, the ones left were hard core photographers, but really friendly, one showed me a pic of the heron catching a fish, after ages I saw it catch a fish. Not much to feed, there was a duck with 9 tiny ducklings, apparently the heron will eat them when they are tiny, glad it didn't do that in front of me. One of the people is the one who posts pics of the red deer, they aren't allowed to name locations online, but he could tell me in person, so will have to try that when it's cooler. The bloke who was there yesterday remembered my bathroom and asked about it, which was nice. On the way home I remembered I was supposed to check the timings of my amazon delivery and noticed the plumber had tried ringing me - turns out the shower screen had slipped when he was putting it in place, shattered and cut him! So he had to get off - ironically friend had said I was welcome to go to hers for a couple of hours after my walk and I said that he'd probably go early - think I'm going to buy a lottery ticket and hope that my thought of winning enough on the lottery to not work for the rest of the year comes true! He did say he could come back tomorrow to finish what he didn't do this pm, but I said he might as well wait till the rest of the stuff comes on Thu, then after he went and I'd swept, hoovered and mopped the bathroom floor, realised the bath panel wasn't on and the door still doesn't shut (but worse than yesterday!), so will have to try and barricade the door tomorrow while I'm out. I'm not convinced he can do everything on Thu now.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, interesting day volunteering, I am actually going to miss going, After that, I walked up to the park as the people who run the candle shop have taken over a cafe there and wanted to see what it was like, really good vegi options. Called in Lidl there, wanted some ice cream and was happy to see they are still selling vegan sausage rolls, thought they had been discontinued its that long since I saw any! Between those, I'd actually hit my step count, so no nature walk.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, surprise surprise, another delay with the bathroom, should be finished tomorrow. When plumber arrived, I was impressed at how his hand looked, he said he wouldn't have been able to work yesterday. I asked if he thought he could finish today and he said 'possibly, if not, I'll see you in the morning' - I'm so fed up of it now, I can live with clutter for quite a while but this is actually annoying me now! Went to my friend's for a bit as she needed my opinion on something, then went for my lake walk, bumped into one of the photographers who'd seen red deer last night, so he showed me the pics, the hide was quiet when I got there, which was nice as it meant the wren who'd built a nest in there was happy flying in and out feeding her chicks, which was great to watch. Walked round to the cafe, sat and read my book for a bit, then went back to the hide, and the bloke I'd bumped into on my way home on Mon was in there, so we had a chat for a bit, the swans came over and had some food, saw a couple of herons (the second was not happy with the first!), then eventually saw the mum and tiny ducklings, she still has 9! Walked home with the bloke, he pointed out all sorts of stuff on the way home, then on the canal stretch, we could see lots of air bubbles and ripples, then the fish came close enough we kept seeing little fins popping out of the water, biggest shoal of decent size fish I've ever seen in the canal. Came home after the plumber had left, went to the loo and was surprised that there was no sink - rang him, apparently the merchant were short staffed today so it hadn't been delivered, but definitely will be tomorrow! On the plus side, he isn't coming early, he can't do much till they arrive, so will come between 10 and 11.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Custom installations - worth it in the end, but things don't always go smoothly. It will be over soon - and you will be happy you did it.

Glad the 9 ducklings made it!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, I have a bathroom!! He didn't finish till just after 5.30 though, although to be fair, he didn't get here till 11. I'm waiting for his pics in the hope they are better than mine, just a shame that I was too tired and hungry to properly appreciate it, I have had a brief shower, looking forward to a proper one and wash my hair in the morning. I went for a lake walk just after he got here, there was one of the regular blokes, and a new woman there today, it was an interesting day, the wren's seem to be getting a bit big for the nest, some have fallen out, one fell out while I was there, tried catching it, but failed, luckily it survived and we put it back. There is only one cygnet left now, and only 7 ducklings. Saw the massive shoal of fish again on the canal, very odd seeing little fins keep sticking up. Just missed the kingfisher again today, and apparently it turned up half an hour after we left yesterday! I am glad that this has made me stay up there longer than normal, shame I'll have to start approaching agencies for temp work next week, but I'm lucky to have seen as many sights as I have while I've been off.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Enjoy your new bathroom! Do you need to do any decorating, or is that it all finished?

First day I've not had to put on a jumper down at the harbour. Still windy but it's a warmer wind. Sun has been shining all week although we've had the haar first thing most mornings. Lots of American tourists visiting, and a fair number of Germans today too. Practised my German a little although it's fair to say I'm very rusty!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments There is the doorframe and the new frame round the cupboard that I may look at doing something with, but probably not anytime soon!

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Yay! Time to enjoy.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, complete change in weather today, got wet on my walk! While I didn't mind getting wet as I was showering and washing my hair when I got back, I wasn't impressed at the fact I haven't been able to do any washing for two weeks, and the first day I can, I've had to put it on the clothes maiden in the house! I've been naughty today, I should have stayed in doing housework, but went for a quick canal walk, first time I've been in a week, and they have started clearing a site for new housing, and I didn't realise how many trees they'd cut down, looked very bare and unfortunately they are the trees the deer like, so me and a dog walker were chatting about the impact on them. Bit further on, I stopped for a while as a heron was on the path, unfortunately a dog walker coming the other way didn't spot it, but it was amazing to see it flying past so close. It was in the water when I came back, so I stopped for 5 mins to see if it was going to catch anything. Did a little bit of housework, then went to friend's cousin's, to brainstorm for the stall we are doing next month, I was touched she wanted some advice on what to put on it, and appreciated getting to smell most of her stock! Did get a couple of wax melt rejects before I left too. The bloke I'd walked home with on Thu mentioned the street she lives on, so asked if she knew him, turns out it is her friends dad, who I also know! Sent her a message, she showed him a pic of me, and it was him, so at least we know each other's name for next time we bump into each other!

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Congrats on the new bathroom Desley and Ro on the rare jumper-free moment down the harbour!

Have had a rough week. Turns out McMini was being bullied. The school have been fabulous and I think we’ll have sorted it soon but the night before our birthdays I discovered he’d self-harmed. He’s OK and suitably embarrassed and not going to do it again but I’m making bloody sure he doesn’t by making a big fuss. Not an angry fuss, obvs but a we-are-going-to-give-you-the-mental-equipment-to-deal-with-this-next-time kind of fuss. I’ve set him up with a counselling session with an eye on learning some coping strategies to help him through if he feels so awful again.

He tells me that he doesn’t need it that much because he has me to talk to, which is completely lovely, but … yeh … it’s been a tough week. What with that and trying to get the eyebombing book in good enough shape to get a proof done. Which reminds me, I have to go sort that now so I can submit the final version tonight and order some. So exciting but also a bit scary.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, was woken up at 3am by a thunderstorm, and then Lucy thought 6.15 was breakfast time! Despite this morning's thunderstorm, it was still really muggy, but needed to go out with a raincoat in case it rained, which it did every time I went out! We've had heavy rain and thunderstorms on and off for a couple of hours and it is cooler, though still high humidity. The place me and friend's cousin are having a stall at next month had an event today, so we went over to scope it out and friend came with us with her kids, then we nipped into co-op on the way home and bumped into one of their uncles - I think I've seen more of her family members this past fortnight than she has!! Then got home and other friend had tried ringing - said she was glad to hear from me but had only rang on WhatsApp and not followed up with a normal phone call! We ended up going round to Lidl, and bumped into my sister! She was going to get a taxi home, but friend kindly offered to drop them off and nephew now thinks she's lovely and wants to see her again! Another day of having fun and seeing people and not doing much housework!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, despite the heavy rain and thunder and the fact it is cooler today, humidity was still really high. It was due to rain again this pm, so walked before housework. Walked up to the bird hide at the lake, three people were there from last week, and remembered to ask about my bathroom, plus two new people, but they all knew each other - friend thinks I should be careful as they'll think I'm flirting, but it seems a nice community of people who just have a shared love of wildlife and photography (I zone out when they start talking camera models!). Still one cygnet, hopefully it is big enough to survive now, only saw 6 of the tiny ducklings, but they zoom across the water like they are running on the surface, never noticed that with the ones I've watched on the canal, and the wrens have fledged, which the bloke who got the job of standing on rocks to put them back was grateful for! Fairly quiet for wildlife, I was just about to go when the cormorant appeared, someone had told me they can swim under water for a great distance, it gave us a nice show today, so stayed a bit longer. Decided to just do one room a day, did kitchen today although realised at tea time that I'd left stuff the cleaner normally does, and can't do that at the moment so do still need to do stuff in there. Spoke to a couple of agencies about doing some temping work today too, I said I was available immediately, even though I'd actually like to have the rest of the month off.

That is a good point Alicia. So sorry MT, I completely forgot to reply to your post, so sorry Mc Mini's had such a rough time recently, hope you managed to sort out the draft.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments No worries Desley he seems ok now. Glad to hear you managed to get out and get a walk in. The hide sounds great.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Ach I hope it was just a blip - and in the end a learning experience - for the poor lad MT. Tough on you all though

We had a hot day today! Well we reached 22 degrees :)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, rained most of the day, so took advantage to sort out the front room (well, my idea of sorting out the front room, I do still keep ignoring a few bits that I don't want to do, maybe next week!), had some lunch, then put my books back on the shelves, with a pile ready to go to the charity shop. Just as I'd finished and was contemplating what I could do till it stopped raining, friend messaged saying she was going for a walk in half an hour, so I asked if she minded company, which she didn't, we did the canal walk to see where they were up to with site clearance, and agreed we weren't going to do that for a while, it's too sad, we then went to candle shop and I treated her to a mocha as a thank you for letting me use her shower and giving my sis a lift home, then she came back to mine as there were some leftover panels, and to have a nosey at the bathroom, she's very impressed with it. Unfortunately there was a lot of loose dust on the panels, so now need to hoover the front room again! Had two frustrating calls with rheumatology, all I wanted to know was 'where do I take these blood bags to have blood taken, and how close to my app do I need to do that' - the helpline takes details and decides if they can answer or if you need a nurse, she pulled up my records then proceeded to ask 3 times when I got put on the new medication, I got a bit snappy at the third time, especially as it wasn't relevant to my question! She decided that I needed a nurse to ring me back, she eventually rang about 1.30, and she just kept telling me that I needed bloods every 6 months, which I actually knew, so got a bit annoyed with her too, if they ever ask for feedback, I'll point out that instructions should be sent with these things. I was supposed to ring my doc to see if they could do them rather than drive to the hospital, but got distracted by friend.

Yes, the bird hide is good, and a nice group of people that are regulars there. Wow, that's impressive R!

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Happy solstice! Twenty hours of daylight here today, and clearly my body is determined I'll see as much of it as possible, as I have been awake since 3.30...

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments And I thought I was bad waking up at 6.11 when I didn't need to! At least we have a bright day forecast, even if I will miss most of it

Stuart Ayris (stuayris) | 2614 comments My lovely wife departed today with her best friend to pop up to Cumbria to scale Scafel Pike tomorrow. As you do!

Leaves me a couple of days of mad work, mad writing and a chance, at last, to sit quietly and contemplate just how fortunate I am to be living the wild little life I'm living right now.

Hope everyone is fine and dandy!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, interesting day volunteering - the toilet block at the centre got flooded, so we couldn't open to the public, although we really should have locked the door, never seen so many people come in on a Wed! Started off doing some tidying, then I got the job of stamping books, I was rather happy doing that! Had another nice social chat when one of the other volunteers popped in, that's the bit I'll miss the most. As I was leaving, I said that I'll likely be back next week, I doubt I'll get offered some temping work quite so soon, and she said that she hopes I can find a job that doesn't require working Wednesday's, so I can still come, as it's a pleasure to have me. I told her that it will be fine if I get a job in a council library, of the 16 they manage, only 2 open on a Wed, but not to worry, I'll still come some Saturday's, have a brew and a chat. Got home and did a quick canal walk to hit my step count, but have to go the other way, which isn't as easy to do a quick walk on - did see 2 shoals of the tiniest fish I've ever seen, wondered if they'd just spawned.

Nice to hear from you Stuart, hope you cope home alone!

Use it well - time disappears more quickly than liquor.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, that was a really good day! Lovely weather again, got highs of 23. Registered with another agency this morning, was getting a bit disheartened as she was 'we don't get much in your neck of the woods, but send your CV over', although she did reply later with details of a colleague who covers proper temping, so I need to ring her. Got some chores done, more of the house is looking normal, then one of the agencies I registered with on Mon rang asking if I was interested in a short term contract with my local council, so I said yes, it's not really a department I'd like to work in long term (adult social care), but it's only till Dec - he's sent my CV over to them, and they have invited me to an interview on Mon, there only concern was if I was bothered by it being minimum wage, I figure it's only till Dec, so it'll be fine. Met one of my ex work friends (decided that apart from 2, I'm going to refer to my friend's by initials now, it's getting a tad confusing!), this friend is M, up at the lake for a drink and a chat, but it was heaving, so we lost time trying to find a spot! Then decided that while I was there, I'd go and see what was going on in the bird hide, one of the regular blokes was just leaving, so asked him what I'd missed and there had been loads there today! There was a new bloke in the hide today, he was friendly and was showing me some of his pics like the heron catching a fish! Still one cygnet, but the ducklings were too far away to count, hopefully I counted 6 though. He left at the same time as me, and walked part way back with me, we saw an egret on the way back, which according to a different wildlife photographer is a Lesser Egret, but both those and Greater Egrets visit. The heron apparently wasn't happy with one being around, even though one was fine with the cormorant on Mon. Walking back, I saw a heron in a spot I've never seen one (third time since Sat!), got a great pic, and it wasn't even bothered by 2 cars that drove past. Have done nearly 13k steps and decided I needed to read when I got back, I'm going to have to increase my challenge, only need 10 more books after the one I'm reading (only started it last night and am 77% done, was a struggle to put it down!), and got a holiday yet!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Ironically Alicia, it's a place I've never been a fan of, as I find it too touristy, but it's been handy this past couple of weeks as there are public toilets, and being able to stay out for hours rather than just getting out to do my step count and come home again has meant I've seen some amazing things, am glad I've taken this opportunity to get out and see things and been so lucky with what I've seen, just want to see a kingfisher properly, and a fox now, but I do get to see pics

Luckily the bird hide is in the least touristy spot, people walk past it to get to one of the cafes, but it's somewhere I only started going in recently.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, have wiped down everything in the new bathroom and pretty much put my stuff in it - still got the corner thing for my shampoo etc to put on, can't decide where! Decided as it was cooler, I'd try a woodland walk, bumped into friend G at the top of my street, she was going for a bike ride, but wanted an evening walk, so I said I'd do a shorter one so I could do both, I did do a bit of a woodland walk but the humidity was quite high and it was affecting my asthma, so turned around and came back. Realised I needed to fill forms in for the agency, my work friend M who had offered to be a personal reference hasn't known me long enough, so had to ask J instead, who bless her, said it would be a pleasure. Then I struggled with the right to work check, that's going to require a couple of trips next week! Then me and G did a woodland walk after tea, then I went back to hers and we played Uno with her youngest, while her eldest played us the piano, really nice couple of hours actually. Just no interesting wildlife today.

Sounds like a lovely day. Sympathies with all the checks and forms, I am rubbish at them. As for the wildlife ... I should imagine it was all lying about in hidden places panting and fanning itself with leaves. It was hot!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, another lovely day, it got up to 25, although started off very overcast and a few drops of rain. It was my monthly catch up with ex work friend C, we went to a country park about 4 miles from her house that she's never been to, it was quite nice. We did seem surprised by the lack of birds, then stumbled across a mother mallard with what we thought was 2 ducklings, till some people came with food (I foolishly didn't take my food!), then 7 appeared! And there were 2 baby moorhen, something I haven't seen this year. There is an ice cream parlour round the corner from it that have a herd of Jersey cows, so make ice cream from them, so we had an ice cream each, I went for birthday cake, although melon was very tempting. Was really nice sitting outside in the sun. Then did a bit of food shopping on the way home, as I don't often get near a Tesco. Got home to a message from L's cousin A, asking if I'm up for a day out for a craft fair she's interested in, it's about an hours drive, on the coast - she did tell me I'd regret offering to help her out! It should be busy, there is a 1940's weekend on at the same time, second one I'll have seen this year!

There was loads about looking at the local wildlife FB page, I just didn't go to the right place! Someone got some amazing pics of a kingfisher catching and eating a meal.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, another nice sunny hot day, till 3.30 when we had some nice heavy rain! Just did a quick walk, saw some lovely blue dragonflies and fish, the family walking past me while I was trying to get pics of the massive ones stopped to see what I was looking at and said they didn't realise there were such large fish in the canal. I did see something else new - a male naked cyclist! I'd heard a bell, so stood to the side and glanced over my shoulder to see how close, just noticed a topless man, but as it was 25, I didn't think too much of that, until he went past me and there was a bright yellow sign under his seat that said 'naked cyclist' on it - said family were behind me and did comment when we were looking at the fish that they weren't overly impressed by that sight, their 3 children all looked under the age of 10.

Yet. :)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Evening, very successful day. Had my interview this morning, seemed to go well, I did decide to say that I do want to work for the council, just in the library, and we had a joke about me using them (I did explain this is why I'm going for temporary positions, rather than letting someone think I'm interested permanently and then let them down), they said they'd let me know in the afternoon, and less than 30 mins later, I got a call from the agency saying I'd been offered the job, and as long as we got my paperwork done ASAP I can start next week! Then I remembered I have a rheumatology telephone consult at 9.30 on Mon, so am starting on Tue. For the first few weeks I'll be office based, then it'll be Mon and Tue in the office, rest of the week from home, and with proper flexi time, so could have short lunches and get an early finish on a Fri. Eventually found the place where birth certificates are issued, my sis was wrong, although was nice to go and nosey at the Town Hall renovations - was in the building I'd had my interview, just a separate entrance! Got a couple of bits from shops I don't get to often, then went back to the car and realised I wasn't that far from the hospital, so walked up rather than drove, although that meant I went in the front entrance rather than the back, so was confused where phlebotomy was (and not helped by the fact it is called 'blood test room' on the map, but without a space for it, just what level it was on!). At least it meant I'd done 9k steps by the time I got home. Decided to be lazy and just put off the things I'd like to do in the house before I start working again till Thu.

Maybe I should keep an the local newspaper!!
