Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Just realized if you're planning on a forever home in Spain, you're going to be an ex-Patti. Couldn't resist.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, dry, but quite cloudy and overcast. Went for a walk with friend round her favourite reservoir, I like it, but I don't hit my step count there. We came back, parked at hers and walked to Lidl for a few bits and still hadn't hit my step count! I did get a pic of the cormorant, must post it.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, another cloudy but dry day, had to wait for an Amazon delivery, which arrived at lunch, so went to the library to get my account sorted so I could look at borrowing ebooks, she said that soon it would cover magazines too. Came home through the park, and was a bit surprised to see a single black ankle boot on the grass, not quite sure how you could go home not noticing you only have one boot!! Then did a quick canal walk, as friend was coming mid afternoon to use my laptop, heard a funny noise on the way back and it appeared to be two squirrels having a stand off! Had a random message from ratty neighbour this morning telling me her landlord has lost his key to her house, so he can't let the plumber in - decided as it was a statement and not a question, I was going to ignore it! If she asks again, I'm going to tell her I don't feel comfortable letting a workman in someone else's house.

Jim | 21809 comments It is a responsibility that you don't need and means you're available to be blamed if something goes wrong like he parks in the wrong place, treads mud in, or whatever

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, it's been a bright day, I decided to go for a long walk to the local lake, it's just over 6 miles to walk there, round it and back, but there are enough benches for me to have rests to manage it, although I hadn't realised how windy it was, some weren't pleasant to sit at, and it was so windy at one point my ear went numb! I also managed to make it 6.5 miles, as I did my usual trick of going out without breakfast, I had meant to take a snack to eat on a bench so I could do the long walk, but realised part way that I hadn't picked anything up, I did the 2 mile walk there and realised I was too hungry to walk round it and back, so I turned back and got a toasted teacake at the new cafe - needless to say, there is now a bag of crisps and a cereal bar in my walking bag! Sat in the bird hide, and saw a pair of swans, I was aware there were some around, but haven't seen them in the flesh in recent years, so that was nice. I haven't done much since getting home though, Lucy spent the afternoon in bed, even when I told her I was home, then when the sun got into the bedroom, I went to sit in there reading, so she got up and sat on the sofa!

No, I certainly don't need it Jim, one of my friends suggested words was 'I don't want the responsibility of going into other people's houses for things like boilers. It could all blow up', which I found amusing.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, another dry, but really windy day. Had to meet one of my work friends at the local Costa at lunch, took advantage of being at the retail park to get a couple of bits. Came home, and decided to do a quick canal walk to hit my step count, but it was too windy to sit on the bench and read. Then I was just about to sit down and eat when my friend rang in a panic as she'd forgot to turn her cooker off before picking the kids up, so had to nip to hers to switch it off for her, so over 8k steps - was hoping for a shorter step count as I did suffer a bit yesterday.

Jim | 21809 comments Today I took lady wife's car in to garage, but because she's not too well, cold, sore throat etc, rather than her pick me up, I walked home, Then I've walked down to collect it. I suspect I've put in 9 miles today :-) On top of what I normally do, so I felt entitled to milky coffee :-)

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments I'd have put some whisky in it myself Jim.

We've had no 1 daughter home for the weekend for the first time since her dad got out of hospital, she arrived on Friday night and then woke up Sat very ill with gastroenteritis. Ended up having to take her to the out of hours service in the middle of Tuesday night as she developed a secondary infection, so she's still not been well enough to go back down to London. On the mend now though thanks to the wonders of antibiotics! So much for cheering her dad up as he's to be careful with infections so they've been in separate rooms the whole time. I'm not really cut out to be a carer, it turns out.
In other news there was a poor minke whale washed up on the beach yesterday, about 5m long. Lots of rubberneckers, the poor thing

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, another dry but windy day. Friend asked if I wanted to go for a walk as soon as she got back from dropping the kids off, so I said yes, we went about 9.20, earliest I've left my house this month! Felt nice though, we went to some woods I discovered during lockdown, but not been too since, and took a different footpath and ended up at a graveyard. Then had a bit of deja vu as went back to local Costa to meet a different work friend and had a nice catch up with her. Then did something interesting, I noticed an appeal yesterday from a folklore centre in local market town for volunteers, duties included helping in the library, on the reception desk, so I thought that might look good on my CV, went to have a chat with them and am doing a shift next Wed (they are only open Wed-Sat and I'm busy the next two days), they've just had a collection donated which will need bookplating, categorizing then integrating with the current books, that sounds like fun! And as a thank you, you get free hot drinks from the cafe they have downstairs (the cakes today looked yummy!). And she has a lot of contact with a library person, so that could help me too!

Yes, I think you deserved a treat after that Jim! Sorry to hear that daughter has been ill while visiting R, bet you could have done without that after what you've dealt with recently! Poor minke whale.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, another very windy day, went to local garden centre with friend's cousin, we had a mooch, then she asked if I wanted to get a coffee, so I said yes, turns out that garden centre has two cafes, she took me to one I didn't know existed - when I went online after to check out the menu, turns out it opened in 2019!! Got her to drop me off at her house as she lives near Lidl, popped in then came home, it was due to rain at 1, sat and checked if that was still the case or if I might get to do a quick walk round the block, looked up to find it had started raining! So me and Lucy went and watched a film in bed, she normally ignores me between 9 and 5, but typically, the one time she does sit on me, it actually stopped raining! So did a quick canal walk after the film to hit my step count (do feel I'm getting a bit obsessed with that again!), saw the heron in the pond, then as I was turning round, I noticed there was an unusual collection of animals in a field - cows, horses and 2 donkeys! I didn't know they all got on!

They get used to each other :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, was out with ex work friend today (need to think of new nicknames, I only have ex work colleagues now!), woke up to hear rain, so hoped it would improve, which it did, even got warm enough at one point to take our coats off! Had a nice canal walk followed by an ice cream, then we went to a garden centre on the way back. Realised I needed milk when I got back, went to the shop and bumped into another ex work colleague (ironically the friend I was out with today took over from her!). Before I left, ratty neighbour came round, first she was wittering on about her food caddy not coming back, then asked for the spare key as her landlord was going to collect it so he could sort out the plumber, I practically ran in the kitchen to get it! So should stop her asking to let workmen in now.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Evening all, thankfully everyone now seems well on the mend. Perhaps my blood pressure will also return to normal!

The minke whale made the BBC news website I see. It was actually 9m long, and the lorry brought to collect it didn't have enough grunt to get back up the slipway so they had to leave it overnight and bring another vehicle the next day. The whale's tail was hanging out the back of the lorry, which had two saltires and "Yes Sir, I Can Boogie" written on the back. Not the most decorous send off for the poor beast.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning

I'm trying to prepare for my final assignment which is a presentation tomorrow morning at 9am. I was up until 3am last night working on it and getting distracted by tik tok. I'm at the point where I know I have a very good presentation but I'm just not sure that it actually answers the question! Hopefully, it answers close enough to get me a pass mark.

Lovely to hear from you Patti! I hope Dave is enjoying his new leisurely life.

Oh Rosemary, what a shame your daughter was ill when she came up. You'll deserve some self-care time yourself when everyone is feeling better.

I must get on and finish this presentation. Can't wait for it to be over.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, bit of a quiet day, lazy start, then went for a canal walk, got to stroke a lot of friendly dogs, then popped in to have a mocha with friend on the way back. Had a nice soak in the bath and finished another book, I might just be even on number of books read/bought this month!

Glad that everyone is on the mend R. Good luck with your assignment/presentation Jud, let us know how you get on.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, another nice day, I only did a short walk as it looked a good drying day, so wanted to catch up on some washing. Walked up to the lake through the nature reserve, while walking through I was looking in the stream to see if the trout were out yet and spotted a heron also looking intently at the river, on a stretch I've never seen one, so the heron clearly had the same idea as me! Checked the frogspawn in the pond, it had gone oily with no sign of frogspawn or tadpoles. I'd remembered to take a hot cross bun with me, so sat on the bench I like and read a couple of chapters while I ate half of it. I've never really been a fan of the lake, as it's always been too 'touristy' for my liking, I prefer the quieter reservoirs, but I realised while sitting there this morning that it might be a good option at the moment, there are numerous ways to get there and varying options for walking round, depending on how many steps I feel like doing, and doesn't require using petrol. I've put 4 lots of decluttering tasks on this week's list, I'm determined to do at least one of them, two would be nice!

I don't know if this will help, but I view decluttering not as a chore, but as freeing up and tidying my spaces so I can work in them or use them more efficiently. For me and what I want to do.

I have a hard time writing in a mess, but I have to have certain papers and books within reach. Keeping it organized and having goals for my writing time use helps.

That is something to think about, thanks Alicia. Probably doesn't help that two of the things are out of sight, so it doesn't matter either way what they look like - one is a cabinet that has 3 drawers and a cupboard with 2 shelves, so I thought I could break that down into 5 things, and even if I only do one drawer and leave the rest for next week, it's something, and sometimes when I break things down, I end up doing more than I expected, as there isn't the same pressure.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, that was a good day. Was bright, if not overly warm, when I got up, got the last of the washing pegged out and went for a walk to the lake, realised on the way there that the woodland path looked dry, so went that way - not done it since last summer, forgot how steep it was! Sat on the bench to rest and have some of my hot cross bun, then decided I was going to walk to the bird hide and back, saw the local wildlife photographer in there, he said it was quiet today, as I was leaving, something that looked like a shrew came out of some foliage, but there were loads of people and dogs, so it quickly turned round and went back! Came home and had some lunch, then felt quite energized, so did some chores, brought the washing in at 3 and realised it was quite warm, so sat outside reading for half an hour, then started tackling the kitchen cabinet, got all 3 drawers done, so just the cabinet to declutter, and the shelves to dust. Have also managed to do 12k steps.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Progress! It sounds like you're feeling more motivated.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, well volunteering was interesting I'd got there early, as I wasn't sure what parking would be like, luckily it was dry and there was a bench next to the shop, so I sat reading for 10 mins, then knocked on as there was no sign of it being open, then read for a bit longer, knocked again, tried ringing, then decided I might as well get what I needed from B & M, then I finally got let in, so it was nearly 10.30! Was a very quiet day, had 2 paying customers, and not many more browsers, at least I got chance to read. The volunteer in charge of the library was in though, he's not quite ready for people to help him catalogue all the books, they are hoping to get some software to scan the ISBN's, I've done that with my own book collection, so that is fine. He also said the libraries he works in did a recruitment drive at the back end of last year, so would only need casual staff, and to keep checking the website. Did get offered lunch, but it was wild garlic soup, and not sure I'd have liked that, but I hadn't realised it was a vegetarian cafe, so that makes me feel better for next week, I'd taken food as I'm used to struggling to find vegi food while fundraising. She ended up packing in early as it was so quiet, then her business partner came back and ended up being given 2 sourdough loaves, as he had some left over - handy, as I have some pate to eat and was wondering what to eat it with! I've said I'll go back next Wed though, she thinks she has enough people for the rest of this week. Coming home there seemed to be a traffic back up, wondered what was going on, to discover the sheep had decided the grass verge had better grass than their field but one had just crossed the road! Then went to friend's favourite reservoir on the way home, only did enough to hit my step count, feet didn't want to do much more than that!

Yes, I think it is helping breaking it down, and also not feel pressurised that things have to be done on a certain day, I've at least done bits of all 4 things, something has to be better than nothing!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, was a bit cool and overcast this morning, so just did a quick canal walk and then got a few bits from Lidl, deliberately leaving my weekend treat for tomorrow, as it's supposed to rain, and that's a good reason to leave my house! Had some chores to do, then couldn't be bothered to tackle the kitchen cabinet, although I did attempt to dust the shelves - I say attempt, as I got bored part way through, but at least when I walk in the kitchen I can tell I've done something, so that's good. Felt quite drained today, don't know why as yesterday wasn't exactly full on! The tablet I watch TV when sitting with the girls died last night, went on Amazon to see if there were any deals, and out of curiosity clicked on 'trade in' - even though my tablet doesn't switch on, they still gave me £15 for it (and instantly, got until 11th June to send my old one in), and currently offering 3 months free Kindle Unlimited on all Amazon tablets, so decided that was a good deal.

Good luck with the revising Jud, have you got anywhere with finding something for after your degree?

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, we got no rain today, friend rang before I went for my walk to ask if I wanted some company, so we did a canal walk, but she approaches it from a different way to me, so always nice to have a change. We got chatting to someone in the middle of mooring his houseboat, he was very interesting. Then dropped friend off and went to Lidl, but when I was going home, she was still at the end of her street chatting to one of her neighbours, so chatted to them both, never realised how interesting her neighbour was. Did my chores and got something off my to do list, I did try and ring podiatry, but turns out that a Fri pm before a long weekend isn't the best time to get hold of them, she suggested back end of next week would be a good time to try again!

Aww, bless McMini

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, another day where the weather was better than forecast, my foot is hoping for rain tomorrow, my ingrowing toenail is quite painful. Nipped to the library as friends son was volunteering, so got him to show me how to use the computers there and get something printed, then decided to pop in the history museum before my walk, learnt loads of history, and got explanations to things that have intrigued me. Then realised I was really hungry, so came home for food before going for my walk, which worked out well, as I was coming back, I thought it was a shame I didn't have my kindle, as it was quite warm and would have been nice sat on the canal reading, then saw Malachi and his owner sat on one of the benches, went to say hello, mindful of the fact she was reading, but she closed her book and said 'so glad to see you, I was hoping to bump into you to find out how you are doing', so sat chatting with them until the sun went in and it went cooler. We got a bit of rain around 4, Lucy asked to go out just after it started, as I opened the door, I got that lovely rain smell, so stood on the doorstep for a few mins.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, we've had a lot of rain today, there was a brief gap at lunch, so I stopped my chores and went to hit my step count - on the third time of getting wet, I decided to give up, even though I was only 600 steps short, good job I did as it started raining heavily about 10 mins after I got home! We've had rain pretty much ever since. As I've struggled to find motivation to do decluttering this week, next week's to do list has things like 'binge watch a series, watch a film and new walks' on it. I should do better with those.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Thanks Alicia, it seems to be going OK at the moment. Fingers crossed.

Desley, that sounds like an excellent to do list!

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Not yet Desley! But the pre-registrant posts aren't open yet, it'll be soon though. I think I'll ask for a post in either Stroke or Spinal Fractures. I really enjoyed those placements. I'm trying to think of a third area that might have similar care just in case I can't get either of those.

This week sounds like a much nicer (and more achievable) to-do list than last week, Desley!

I can't believe McMini is old enough to be in love! I still think of him as being about 6 years old! (mind you that doesn't mean they can't be in love. (My 6 year old has his wife picked out and the wedding planned)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, about half an hour after I posted, we had such heavy rain it sounded like hailstone! When I went to bed, I could hear a dripping sound, turned out to be coming from the coving on the chimney breast. Wiped it all up, but when I switched the light off an hour later, it was all completely dry. Did a canal walk today, but seems I went the wrong way, friends cousin went the other way and saw 6 deer! I did decide to go and investigate a path I noticed last summer and never got to check out, some lovely waterfalls, but a bit waterlogged after yesterday. Realised on the way back that not only that I had managed to sort out my ingrowing toenail yesterday, but my bunion was no longer hurting (it's been like a burning pain for the last couple of weeks), wonder if there is some correlation between the two. Quite a few books on new book day today, good job I don't need much food as I hadn't included books in my budget - not sure how that happened actually!

Not sure about excellent MT, but certainly more achievable! And hopefully that'll make me think of doing more practical things. Glad you did more sales than expected. Good luck Jud, they sound interesting specialties.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, had to stay in for an Amazon delivery today, did have enough motivation to get quite a few chores done, nipped out at lunch to get a padded envelope to send my old tablet back in, started packaging it up, then when the new one arrived, realised I could use that box to send it back in! I got a month free audible as well as 3 month's free Kindle Unlimited - never got into audio books, but it's free, so I'll give it a go. I was starting to get fed of waiting at 3, as the sun was finally creeping out from the clouds, but then I had a snack and read on the sofa, time flew then! Glad I did end up going out as late as I did, not only was it sunnier, but I saw my first gosling's of the year, 2 lots of 3 in different places, and 2 deer, one on either side of the canal - friend's cousin said she saw 6 on that stretch yesterday, I was jealous as I haven't seen any for ages. She was dropping wax melts off for my sis tonight, she was late as she drove home and noticed red deer (the ones on the canal are roe deer) in a field, so turned round, parked up and walked closer to get some pics, I completely understood that, they looked stunning, amazing antlers. I'm driving past the same field tomorrow, doubt I'll see any.
