Evening, went to a local National Trust place with friend today, it's an old cotton mill with various walks, some wheelchair/pushchair friendly, some not, we went on what we thought was an easy one, but lots of uneven stones and we had to cross the river using stepping stones, which I'm not good with. Foot was sore with all the uneven surfaces, but fine after a rest, and I have done over 10k steps. We were going to have some food there, as the cafe is supposed to be nice, but they are completely off grid, and due to low water levels, they could only offer bottled cold drinks, crisps, cake and chocolate bars. So after we'd done our walk, we went to Wetherspoons in the next village. Haven't seen that friend since before my toe op, so was nice to catch up. Gone very chilly, I actually did put the heated underblanket on last night and I've just put the electric fire on, as the heating has kicked in a couple of times today. Ratty neighbour asked me to look in on the rats tonight and check their food etc, only 2 were brave enough to come and take some food from me, but the third eventually came out in the open, they are sweet - was trying to break up a piece of broccoli for them when Lily just took the entire floret from me!

That is a very good point that I've never considered - although you could say the same about chores, can't leave them all till the cleaner comes once a month! But at least I am getting more relaxed about it, I didn't do much today as I felt drained and wanted to save energy for going out with friend (although what I did was probably still more than some people do on a rest day!)
Yes I suspect that if you read back through your posts you could see a definite improvement in your foot
Evening, muscles were a bit achy after yesterday, but I decided to still go for a walk today, wore my walking trainers today, which weren't quite as comfortable as my walking sandals, so glad I wore those yesterday. Went to the nature reserve, the water is low, but still managed to spot 5 brown trout. A lot more achy now. Did my first foot mask, did make my toe feel a bit funny, but it probably needs the moisturiser now I know it's safe to use it. Decided to do tribute nails today, ready for tomorrow. https://www.goodreads.com/photo/group...
Read the blog MT, glad your mum is home, even if the patient transport people made it more complicated. Yes, that is why I've started posting again Jim, so if I overdo it, I can at least look back at how far I've come, and also a reminder for when I have the other foot done.

Evening, still feel drained - didn't actually watch all the funeral, we went for a walk about 1 in between the two services, but back in time to watch the end - it was weird singing 'God Save the King' twice. I had a deadline today and was hoping to get it done early but didn't get the last document from someone till 3pm - it was frustrating as I have loads to do, but I couldn't do some as I had no idea when I'd get interrupted. Went for a walk round the park after work to clear my head - didn't hit my step count, but was nice to get some fresh air, although foot is a bit sore today. Fingers crossed she's OK when you visit her tomorrow MT
Desley,Everything you've learned about how the healing went will make your life smoother when you do the second foot - and you can revisit these notes, and see if you remember everything.
And make it a bit easier on yourself.
Notes are a real help - we don't remember accurately, especially when real life crowds in.
Evening, another frustrating day at work, spent a couple of hours this morning doing a task, only for someone to decide at 4pm that it wasn't necessary! I'd also been invited to a 9.30-4.30 meeting, but luckily I was allowed to just listen and carry on working, still ended up working late though. Then I realised I wasn't wearing clothes I could go for a walk in, and couldn't be bothered to change, so I did chores and read my book instead, Lucy appreciated coming for a cuddle.
Yes, I read a quote last week that went along the lines of 'some days you can move mountains. Other days you'll only make it from the bed to the couch. Both are OK'. I should probably try them more!
Evening, was sunny but chilly this morning, then 5 mins before I was due to go to the doctors, it started raining - luckily I'd decided to drive as was doing it in my lunch break, in case they were running late. While I was there they booked me in for my flu jab - next Wed! Then after I finished work got a text from them asking if I wanted to go to the drop-in clinic on Sat.We do need rain though, got an e-mail from United Utilities yesterday, reservoir levels are down 1.7% from last week and 37% lower than they should be for this time of year - we have another one that's getting close to being able to be walked across.
I was going to get the flu shot AND the new Covid booster, had asked the surgeon - she said it was okay two weeks before surgery - and then all the rest of the appointments, tests, and logistics interfered, and I didn't get it, and won't until AFTER surgery.Darn.
We had three days of some rain! In dry California! One night I opened the windows just to listen to the beautiful sound. It roared.
Last night we had a lightning storm.
Evening all, rain didn't last or do much good unfortunately - it was 17 when I got in my car after work at 3.30. Decided to take advantage of the weather and go to a reservoir I've been meaning to go to all week (but it's that popular if you don't get there early, you have no chance of parking), and the water level was really low. Then one of the neighbours came round, he's 60 next month and his daughter wants to do something for him, he invited neighbour and told her he wanted to invite me, she kicked off and said she wouldn't go if I went - he said her reaction made him think of a teenager rather than someone on their 60's!! I'm honestly not keen on going, I've never been a fan of going to parties where I don't know many people, and one of the people I do know has to mingle. However I did have to stop myself from laughing at her pettiness, it's not like the three of us are going for a sit down meal, we could ignore each other. I love a good thunder storm Alicia, lightning is my favourite part of it, I often look out of the window at them.
Culton wrote: "I don't think you should get the flu shot. Take vitamin B complex."Wouldn't dream of not getting the flu shot every year, and can't wait to get the new booster which is omicron-based.
Evening, that was a nice day. Proper autumn day, sunny but a bitter wind. Went for a walk along the canal, popped in the candle shop to look at the sale and had a nice chat, then bumped into a dogwalker who used to live on the next street, so had a chat and walk with her, chilled for the afternoon. Had just settled down on the sofa to read for an hour when friend rang and asked if I wanted to go to a different place to watch sunset, so had to then sit with the girls instead. It was too cloudy, we walked to another place and bumped into a very chatty dog walker, so was out longer than expected. At least I've done 13k steps, even if I am treating myself to a chippy!Hope Jim is OK, don't think I've seen him on here for a bit.
Evening, cloudy and cool today, so no point watching the sunset, we haven't seen it today!! There was some boat on the canal singing folk songs this weekend that friend wanted to watch, I agreed to go just for the steps. But realised this morning I'd forgotten eggs from Lidl that I needed for lunch, I rang her to see what time we were going and bless her, she popped round with two eggs so we could stick with our plans. I sensed from her voice she wasn't going to let me give her two out of the box I was buying, so when she suggested we got a drink to walk up the canal with, I paid. And I've just had a nice soak in the bath, as felt a bit stiff after doing 30k steps since Fri
Last obstacle before surgery cleared: a Covid test at Stanford - where the entire parking lot was set up for testing - and I was the only one being tested! As long as the test comes back negative (and it should), I'm good to go for tomorrow morning's surgery - it has been some journey.
By the next time you hear from me, I should be better.
Amazed - back at hotel, home to Davis from Stanford tomorrow.Won't be answering individually for a couple more days (kind of wiped). Thanks, all!
There is a moment when the pain is at a max - everything normal on your body has been stressed plus the things they did something to, and they decide, all your body parts, to hurt together. You know, team spirit? I hope this is it - and it will get better soon. But I live with a lot, so it's easy to overwhelm the limits, and they do have to put you in awkward positions sometimes.I am resisting mightily taking the next pain pill - ten minutes to go. 9.
So I get on the computer and futz about - thanks! 8...
7. But I know if it gets TOO bad, the pill won't work...
Took it 5 min early - now hope it dissolves fast!
Then I'll go back to the routine.
Hope that your pain eases off quickly, I know what you mean about having something done on one bit and the rest comes out in sympathy!
Fingers crossed it all passes soon Alicia.I've spent the best part of an hour on the phone to a business banking person this afternoon, which is a different sort of pain. But oh goody I get to fill out more forms!
Evening, was mainly a sunny day, went for a walk at lunch with colleague, first time I've done that walk since before my toenail op, so that was nice. Even though it was dry when I got home, I didn't do an extra walk, not sure if it's the steps or my walking trainers, but my toe nail site has been a bit uncomfortable since the weekend. Poor you R, I'm putting off ringing the insurance company to see when I'm getting my money back, but really should.
Desley (Cat fosterer) wrote: "Hope that your pain eases off quickly, I know what you mean about having something done on one bit and the rest comes out in sympathy!"I think the other pains know you're distracted - and they gang up on you. Since I started it seems to be getting better. I don't expect perfect, just not 'dire.'
Evening, that was a nice day. Had a task this morning that took nearly 40 mins to download, so I did some chores and read my book rather than stare at the screen. Saw at lunch that the candle shop were doing a bath bomb deal, £21 worth of products for £10, turned out to be 6 bath bombs and 2 shower bombs, so my plan to give it as a Christmas present has changed, I can split that into a few presents. Had a lovely chat with them too, not seen them for a bit, very jealous of the fact they are going to Salem for Halloween. And I went to the coffee shop on the way as they have been selling out by Sat, got a nice apple crumble blondie, had a little chat with them too. Went for my flu jab after work and bumped into my friend on the way back, so had a wander round co-op with her and a chat. Then walked the long way home as was close to my step count. Yes, funny how your expectations are completely different when you live with chronic pain.
It can make you more empathetic and more compassionate - but it can also make you very short with people who don't get it.It's a lot to deal with - a much higher 'level of difficulty' to have in your daily life.
Evening, mainly sunny today but with some rain. Had two hours of meetings though. Plumber came 2 hours late, but luckily was only here half an hour, so didn't get out for a walk and then after work had to tidy for the cleaner, did see a lovely rainbow when I went to post the key, glad I went when I did, as it was fading when I was coming home, and she only lives a few mins walk away. I've also had the girls for 5 years today! Must go to Pets at Home after work tomorrow to get them a treat.
Evening, very wet and windy, but as this is due to the hurricane in the US, I don't think we can complain. And we do need some rain. I did slightly regret going to the retail park after work, as it had come down heavy and that car park is prone to flooding! Luckily my friend messaged me as her son had locked them out of the house, so I cut my trip short and came home so she could get in, it does mean I need to go back at some point, but that's fine. Did mean I had to come home, let her in and then go to Lidl, but that also worked out well as I bumped into a friend there and got to have a chat. They didn't have some of the things I wanted, so will be going back there too! Got back and finished my book though. Thanks Alicia
yes I had an 'almost holiday' :-)Our daughter broke a bone in her foot and as she lives along we threw stuff into a car and went to provide backup
Which included getting her to a family get together weekend organised in Bellingham
So hectic :-)
Evening, weather not as bad as yesterday, but periods of being wet and windy, and thanks to chatting to a neighbour as I went out for an errand, I got caught in one! At least it made me grateful for coming home, putting my fleecy PJ's on and making a bailey's hot choc. Did find chilling on the sofa all afternoon boring though

Please send my best wishes for healing quickly - hope the almost holiday still had a lot of good parts. These things must be so hard for farmers with animals to care for.
Sorry to hear about your daughter Jim, but glad you're OK - was wondering as we hadn't heard from you in a while.

Why does that not surprise me :-)
Home - good to hear.Daughter recovering - even better.
Me, too - dealing with the aftereffects of surgery and oxycodone has not been easy; can't wait to be back to some kind of new normal.
Evening, nice calm and bright day today, and typically I didn't have the inclination or energy to do much! I eventually forced myself to do some housework, then decided to walk to Lidl, I figured I'd either get some motivation, or I'd have got out of the house and bought things I need! It was the latter. I've made myself a bowl of chilli though, so got lunches for the office this week. Turns out my peel off base doesn't peel off that well, it lasted a whole week, then could only half peel it off, so still had to use nail varnish remover. Am trying it again this week, but without the nail dehydrator. Done ombre nails for the first time this week, not sure I like it, made it look a bit more like a weird french manicure. Now the challenge is to get the liquid latex off.
