Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Of course, I need to post a photo of Biscuit. At the moment she looks like Jim has had a go at her with his sheep shears, she's a nightmare for letting us brush her legs so she was all matted and had to get shaved. Poor thing. Lucky we had Oscar's old jumper to put on her for walks. I'll have to find a fluffier photo and then try and remember how to post photos...

I'm getting a sports massage today, I can't wait. My back is giving me real grief from being so tense, I've so many knots in my right shoulder. Hopefully I'll get some relief.

I did Jury service in Aberdeen once, I also didn't get picked but it was fun to spend hours reading instead of sitting in work.

Good luck with keeping those well-being changes Desley, our course has a large self-care aspect to it so I'm trying to make small changes too but with everything going on I often lack the motivation!

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Wow Stuart! That sounds amazing, especially as I could imagine there are not that many folks travelling so you must be getting all the amazing sights to yourself!

New Year's resolutions? Don't make em. I just pat myself on the back for getting to the end of another year.

Alicia. I don't know how you did that. Although luckily, my son does eat broccoli!

Jim, if you're doing more hedging, you'll have trouble getting fatter and unfitter!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, another bright day, but bitterly cold. Went for two walks today, ratty neighbour wanted to come with me, said we'd pop to the co-op for one thing and then do the canal, she faffed in co-op so long we barely got to do any of the canal, hence the second, although she pointed out it might be good for me, as both are after a few hours of sitting in front of the computer. We did the same stretch of the canal as Sun, but most of it was frozen, so a lot more geese and ducks in the field. Did the park after work, a lot of ice there, even though it apparently got to 4 this afternoon. Ratty neighbour said she'd like to come walking with me more, as it helps her get out, nice to know that something I started doing as I realised it helped my mental health and wellbeing could benefit friends too. Just been on phone to vegan friend as she needed me to do something on the internet for her, she also commented that I sound lighter in myself.

That is another option MT! That's why I went for things I actually enjoy. I don't know what sounds better, doing jury service or reading while I should be working. Hope you enjoyed the massage.

We have one daughter who prefers raw carrot to cooked, so her portion is just set aside before cooking. It's not a problem :-)

Because of having to be pretty immobile for a fortnight after the eye job, then wet weather encouraging me to do paperwork etc, I went into Christmas busy but not active. It's not a good combination :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, what a frustrating day, had to try and get hold of a help desk, who it turns out after the 4th time of ringing in a week only like to reply via e-mail - would have been helpful if the first 3 people had told me that. Unfortunately I had also e-mailed on Mon and they replied just after my 3rd call but made the problem worse! Then a colleague asked if I could query something with a client and had to point out that if he read the e-mail I sent on Wed, he'd see that they had already realised their mistake and sent a new document. Did food shopping and took some stuff to the tip after work, so was a bit too dark when I got home to do the circuit I've been doing after work, so I did a random long walk to the Sainsbury's that's about 100 yards away and got an extra 1k steps. So not hit my step count, but the fresh air did help with my frustration.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Going around in circles is the story of my life, Desley. Everything seems to conspire to make so many of my efforts not only fruitless but actually making things worse.

I keep moving ahead because there is nothing else to do but quit, and I don't do that, but, man!, the energy that gets wasted.

Other people's lack of clarity overwhelms my tiny speck of energy. And that day the writing doesn't happen.

Life - but irritating.

Glad you got out - I'd like to come along on a walk some day!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, rubbish night sleep, woke up at 4.30 cold, then 6.30 as Lucy was laid on my legs and my foot was burning. Got up, fed the cats, had something to eat and drink and got back to sleep about 9 for an hour. Luckily, as I had done most of the chores today, I got to spend time doing nice things today, went for a long walk, called in coffee shop for my drink and cake, I got there just as a table came free, so I got to sit in, and 5 mins later, I was the only person sat in there! Had a nice chat with them and a customer who came in after me, then nipped to Lidl for something, bumped into my hairdresser and her 6 month old puppy, so stopped to cuddle the puppy. I don't often post pics of my treats, but today's looked very impressive, so here's a pic - it's a cherry white choc mocha, and a caramac cookie (I brought the cookie home so Lucy could have some). Since getting home, we've had cuddles, played my games, and had fun working on Feb book challenge.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments I don't normally have cream, he forgot to ask this week, and then I didn't have the heart to point it out. No wonder I don't seem to be losing weight! At least I've done 13k steps (6.1m) today

Jim | 21809 comments Oh I saw this, and thought immediately of your Grumpy Neighbour

"Avoid relationships that leave you depleted. This calls for establishing clear boundaries for the relationship up front. You don’t have time to spend your life straightening out misunderstandings, hurt feelings, and injured egos. How far are you willing to go? How much are you inclined to invest? When you overspend your budget, you go broke."

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Thanks Jim, that is very true, it clearly was leaving me more depleted than I thought (prob cos it was a gradual process), given how much lighter and happier I feel, and no longer feeling guilty at some of the things I like to do with my spare time.

It's your choice how and with whom you spend your time, but I agree with Jim that you sound much lighter.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments It was MT, a caramac cookie that had caramel sauce, I had to bring it home, Lucy loves their bakes.

Second time that's been said this week Alicia! Amazing how things like not leaving the house for a day used to bother me, but not any more.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Sounds fab Desley and I would second what Jim (and Alicia) said. You sound so much happier. It's brilliant. :-) Trying to write but it's not going well so I'm doing some admin and will probably do some gardening this afternoon ... if it bothers to get light ... it's very dull today.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, really hectic and stressful day at work, was asked to do a spreadsheet on Fri pm to be used in a meeting on Wed, but I'm off tomorrow, so it had to be done today, and some other things kept cropping up that also needed to be sorted while a colleague was in the office, so I ended up working part way through lunch, and then till 5.15 (supposed to finish at 4.30), got the spreadsheet done, but not much else, so had to message my boss apologising for not dealing with another couple of e-mails, she can either do them tomorrow or leave for me on Wed, don't think one day will make much difference. Going to be a long day tomorrow, friend has her divorce adjudication, and I offered to take the day off for moral support - obviously can't go in, but I can travel with her, and she's allowed to meet me at lunch. We have to get the 7.25 train, and she was talking before about going out for food/drink after and maybe getting the 8pm train (it's an hour train journey), but unfortunately she's the only other person with a key, so no one to feed the cats. Hopefully I'll get some shopping (not that I enjoy mooching anymore), and some reading done.

Thanks MT, funny how she kept nagging me to do what she thought I should do going 'it's called having fun' and 'it's called living', yet now I'm allowed to just do what I want, I feel much happier. We've had an overcast day that feels like we haven't seen daylight.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Wow, that was a long day, can't wait to go to bed, so tired it's a struggle to force my tea down my throat! Friend was very grateful for me going with her though. We got there about 8.50, I'd done my 6k steps by 9.35! It was one of the most enjoyable shopping trips I've had in a long time, even if the best part was wandering just looking in shop windows - think going on a Tue was a good thing, there were people, but not crowded. I did spend more than I expected, got some bargains (got 3 tops in the Matalan sale, the tags came to £12, but scanned at £8.50), and treated myself to some things that I like, but rarely get near shops to buy them (except for the Lindt shop, never seen one of those and they had a pick and mix, would have been rude not to, and did get friend some for her and her sons too, as it's not been a nice day for any of them), finally got the PJ's that I haven't got in the last two primark trips, done just over 23.5k steps (nearly 10.5 miles) and still read 61% of my book.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Impressive.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, unsurprisingly I slept through from 10.10 to 6am! Not even sore, although I have discovered between Sat and today that when I get to 12k steps, I get that pain at the top of my leg, but it's fine today, not sure if I need to keep walking that much to stretch the muscle, or that is my limit. Felt like I had something in my eye when I was shopping yesterday and today it is really red (my good eye), thought I'd start with conjunctivitis drops, as that is the doc's first choice of treatment, funnily enough, I've just had a bit of discharge from it, so hopefully it is that straightforward, I'll give it a couple of days and if the drops don't work, I'll get it looked at (or if it gets worse in the meantime). Very frustrating day today, people keep putting docs in the wrong place, and my boss didn't get chance to do the things I didn't do on Mon, or some of the stuff that came in yesterday. Had a meeting today, got one tomorrow and 2 on Fri, she just said I'll be grateful of my weekend!

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Wow Desley! Sounds like you've had a fairly action packed week. I've just been busy doing the mum run and having a go at tiktok. Mum was on food form today though which was lovely.

message 16324: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Given how action packed things are Desley, actually having a quiet day at home sounds like a nice rest :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, another long day at work, had a meeting at 3.30 that didn't finish till 5.15, I was only needed for 2 things, one near the beginning and one near the end, so I muted myself for most of it, and worked! I decided not to send the sheet I'm supposed to send at 4pm though as 5 of the 8 people I send it to were in the same meeting, so thought that would look a bit odd. Told my boss I'm finishing on time tomorrow! Luckily the cleaner is coming tomorrow and I'm driving past an Aldi when I take my sis and the kids out on Sat, so going to leave the food shopping til then. Was asked about hols today, so agreed I'll take 5 and sell 5.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, so glad it is Friday. Was 7 mins late leaving work today, but mainly as a colleague rang to ask a question and we were chatting as our Blended working guidance came through - still 3 days in the office, but there is a bit of flexibility for certain circumstances. Went to co-op after work and treated myself to a ready meal as I couldn't be bothered cooking after this week

It looks like your management are enjoying working from home as well :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, that day didn't turn out as expected! We had really heavy winds this morning, so sis asked if we could re arrange as my niece has been on steroids and ab's this week for a bad chest infection, so didn't want to be walking her round in the wind, and I was glad not to drive in the wind, so I said I'd still take them to the candle shop so my nephew could have an ice cream. My eye was a lot more uncomfortable and swollen, despite being less red, so I took myself to the urgent care centre after, the first doc I saw said definitely conjunctivitis, so when I questioned how it could be getting worse half way through the course, so he got a second opinion, he used the slit lamp and it's iritis - so bizarre as it's not common and it's even more uncommon to have it in both eyes. Plus I still don't have traditional symptoms, didn't react to the slit lamp again. Ironically both the woman who let me in the building and the triage nurse both suggested I should have used the minor eye treatment service first, if I had, all they would have done would be to check the slit lamp and send me to the hospital, as they can diagnose but not treat. Unfortunately they were out of the normal dilating drops, they gave me some of the single use ones they use in clinic, but it doesn't seem to have done anything.

Some are Jim, some don't like working from home. We have an obligation to reduce our carbon footprint, and the blended working helps with that, so don't think they will reverse it

message 16330: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Sorry you keep getting the runaround on something so delicate as eyes - nobody taking responsibility. Ask for a referral to a university group? If something is rare, the specialists need to help.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Thanks Alicia - the opthamologist who was found for the second opinion took a phone call while looking at my eyes, so pretty much just chucked medication at me and said I'd get a check up in a week, hopefully that person will be nicer! Am glad I'm not speaking to neighbour, her 'sympathy' last year was 'oh, your eye might force you to stop work before retirement age', so dread to think what she'd have come up with for this.

message 16332: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Compassion seems to be in short supply. Even if the doctors can't be bothered, couldn't they have someone on staff whose job it is to support the patients?

I watch a lot of British crime shows, and they often have something called an FLO - family liaison officer - to support the people affected by a crime. Could be a model. At least tell you someone like this exists. I definitely hope the next person will at least be HUMAN.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments We do have something over here called PALS, which is some kind of patient liaison, but think it's more if you have a complaint about level of service. I should be grateful that the first doc did at least get a second opinion, he was convinced I just had conjunctivitis because I only had 1 of the 3 iritis symptoms, and I think I knew more about iritis than he did.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, had to book a meeting 12.30-1.30, which is normally when I have my lunch, they don't normally last the full hour though, so thought I'd eat after it, it went on for an hour and a quarter! So ended up only having a 30 min lunch, as we had something else that needed to be done this pm, got it finished with 20 mins to spare. Felt shattered when I got home, so I made myself go for a walk before finishing my books (6 read this month, very pleased)

The walk sounds like a wise move

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, another windy day, I didn't want to go for my walk after work, but needed to go to the chemist, so figured I'd do a bit of my circuit and end up at the chemist - saw lots of blown over wheely bins. Feel really drained, but happy it's new book day and new monthly/weekly challenge on my music game. At least work was fairly quiet so I managed to catch up on some of the stuff from last week.

message 16338: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments We have to move our bins when the wind is from some directions :-)

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Or they get moved for you? Ours do - to the next village along the coast :D
We've had Storm Malik to contend with this weekend, it turned out not so bad here as it was further north, but that didn't stop them cancelling all the trains into Edinburgh again.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, another quiet day at work, so pretty much caught up, which is a good job as I have a 1.5 hour zoom meeting in the morning and a 1.5 hour face to face meeting in the afternoon! Have agreed to WFH in the morning and go in at lunch for the meeting. At least I can do the zoom meeting with the girls, they might enjoy it more than me. Had to sort out my holidays today, just went for booking every Wed off between now and 16th March, then realised I should have picked a Thu for a local market, luckily boss did say I could swap if needed. Friend couldn't walk today, but I went by myself as it was dry.

With us it was a bit windy but nothing special, we caught the bottom edge of the bottom edge by the sound of it

message 16343: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Windy here too ... not so bad though. We're right at the bottom of it all. It was really warm yesterday so even though it's drear and dull I was looking forward to going for a walk today. I probably will but, annoyingly, it's fucking freezing.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, so my 1.5 hour meeting this morning lasted an 1 and the 1.5 hour meeting this afternoon lasted 2 - the afternoon was more fun though fortunately. The morning one was so boring Coco snored through the whole thing! Went in at lunch, there was one person in my wing, who had gone by the time my meeting finished, so then I Was sat by myself. Remembered to ring the eye clinic on the way home from work, they have managed to get me in after work tomorrow for a check up and a treatment plan. Then went to Lidl with ratty neighbour after work, she's hard work shopping with, but nice to have some company

Yes, my department has always been quite accommodating with hols, as we work round deadlines.

message 16345: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Hoping the clinic will give you a plan for your eye that works quickly.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, we've had hail and thunder today, quite heavy hail when I was driving to the hospital, some pavements were white! Was early and actually got seen early, so I left the ward only 2 mins after my actual app time. I asked the doctor to put a note on my file not to dismiss me with swelling as a symptom, she told me to just say I had pain and needed to be seen! She gave me a treatment plan I don't agree with, it's only 3 weeks, another 3 days at hourly, then drop to 6 times a day (they did that the second time I had it, and I ended up having to get an emergency app), so I'm going to do hourly today and tomorrow (the bottle only lasted till lunch, so had to space out between 12 and my app), then 2 hourly for 3 days, then I'll follow the plan, hopefully that will taper a bit easier. She's put me down for a check up in a fortnight, but we know my track record with getting follow ups for iritis! Then went to big Asda to stock up on a few things, some of the offers were popular so I didn't get everything I needed

message 16347: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Sounds so frustrating to deal with instead of being referred to a specialist. Same old, same old.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Morning, another wet and windy weekend. Had to go to the post office yesterday, so while I was out and wet, I went to the coffee shop, they had taken my suggestion on board and bought some ruby hot chocolate powder, it was nicer than the Costa one actually, am going to try it as a mocha next week. Woke up this morning, just turned over without checking the time, Lucy started fussing, I looked to discover I'd slept through till 7.15 (still didn't want to get up though!). One of my tasks today is to set up the new extension lead and heated under blanket, looking forward to going to bed tonight! Supposed to be going to friends this afternoon to watch some TV.
