I find they only document things like missed payments. They probably wouldn't remember an angry customer in a branch and definitely not to a customer service advisor on the phone. Unless that customer repeatedly harassed them.

Jim | 21809 comments My comments would be for the manager, and they're far more transient than clerks :-)

message 16103: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments I remember being invited in to my student bank to see the manager so he could apologise for how absolutely rubbish their service had been - they literally did the opposite of everything I asked them to. I turned up at the appointed time on the appointed day to be told that the manager had gone on holiday. I felt they were sending me a pretty clear message so I closed my account on the spot.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments What a day! Didn't get through nearly as much as I wanted, although neither did my boss! We did have some nice cake for my colleague going on maternity leave though. And then Monday is the start of me having to do more work, literally, one of my most important tasks on Monday is something she normally does. Then had to go and drop off Lucy's prescription that I've been meaning to do since last Sat, go to the retail park for stuff, including cat litter which was a massive fail, then take Amazon parcels to 2 people. Now I just want to lie on the sofa, and feel like doing that all weekend.

Oh dear MT, that is dreadful!

message 16105: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments I think you should lie of the sofa Desley! 🤣🤣 Take it easy and read some books.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Not sure I have enough books MT, maybe I should buy some more!! :-) I could lie on the sofa and try and get through some of the birthday wax melts and alcohol, I have jokingly said I might be an alcoholic if my colleague takes the full 12 months off, her replacement has been annoying us already - he asked 4 people for the same information this week, I did wonder if he was going senile, colleague thinks he's just trying to get back in the swing of things and find his feet, hope they are right.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Morning, rubbish night sleep, so think I will just be chilling (although there is some housework to do as well), think my exercise will be walking to the coffee shop to see if they do white choc mocha, and maybe a blondie, not been this month! Forgot to say, I got a response yesterday about the online quizzes and walking club, quiz is rather randomly 7pm on a Mon night, so will give that a go, they have scaled back the walking due to the weather, but hoping to get some in before Christmas, they'll send me details when something is organised. Also looking at another local walking club.

seems an entirely reasonable response!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Morning, Lucy was very good yesterday, I told her we were having a chill day so she laid on me for hours to make me relax! I managed Lidl as well as coffee shop, was just on the doorstep getting my keys out when I heard my neighbours door open, so that was good timing! I hadn't done anything with my NowTV account, as you couldn't delete devices, and as she didn't use it, couldn't be bothered to change the password, but noticed that she actually did use it last night, so need to change that now. Lovely day today, hoping to take friend and her sons to the candle shop for ice cream, if she doesn't want to, think I'll go for a walk by myself anyway.

message 16114: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Gorgeous day here too Jim. I'm just off to get some kit for McMini's Christmas and have a walk, myself before it gets dark. Also need to do my Nano words. Had so nearly caught up!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Morning, had to scrape frost off the car this morning, and temp was 0 by the time I got to work! Very stressful morning, retired colleague came in and spent the whole hour and a half huffing and puffing and I tried not getting involved as I had my own work to do, and now a bit concerned that he'll just think I was rude. Did manage to get a few things off the to do list too. I seem to have bought enough kindle books to qualify for a £5 credit, quite tempting to buy more! Got my first online quiz at 7, looking forward to that.

message 16116: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Not cold enough for frost but still pleasant :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, a balmy 6 when I left the house this morning! Quiz last night was a bit disappointing, was 36 multiple choice questions that only lasted 23 mins, and no chat, I'll give it a go again next week though. I had a chat with one of my colleagues today and commented that I thought retired colleague might have thought I was rude yesterday, he told me not to worry about it as retired colleague had snapped at me when I had offered to help, I'm that used to his behaviour that I didn't twig he had snapped at me! I am enjoying the banter in the office though, and do feel like I'm finally catching up after my week off!

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Glad you're catching up. Possibly you tend not to notice enough when people are grumpy at you. That's very kind of you.

message 16119: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments I think that you're getting back into the swing of things and are working with people you've got used to over the years

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, rubbish night sleep but finally caught up on e-mails, such a relief to finally be on top of things. Even learnt something new this pm. And then finished my book after work, so productive day all round.

Yeah, could be Jim - its the first time retired colleague has met that colleague, was interesting hearing his view of something I take for granted after working with someone for over 10 years.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Desley, McOther often sounds angry when he's just a bit focussed or stressed. You're obviously used to that after some years and the person seeing it for the first time isn't. Glad you're settling in. I am desperately trying to get to the end of NaNo. Nearly there and so close to hitting the target it hurts! Need to write about 3k today though. Gulp.

Well done MT! I'm rebelling and doing editing as usual so met the target last night, first time I've completed before the last day I think. But am going to carry on as it will be great to have done something every day.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Nice bright day, but incredibly cold! Nice walk with friend and a nice calm day. Might have to turn my heating up, it's supposed to be below freezing overnight this weekend.

That's a good point MT. Good luck with your writing

Thanks. Well done for getting your walk in yesterday. I was taking the lad to school today and originally planned to walk in the grounds but it's pissing down so I came home!

Nice going! My line was 300 words adrift of their line yesterday. Whatever happens now, I've written over 40k!

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Battening down the hatches here as we have a red warning for wind from later this afternoon through the night - although it's really bad already! The storm warning on our weather station went off yesterday evening, which was considerate of it as it usually does it in the middle of the night. Wind chill currently -5, I came home after my walk to the post office with severe regret that I hadn't worn a hat

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Yesterday was Thanksgiving in the States, and we ate at 3pm!

The dining staff filled our request for the Friendship Table, so we had a lively conversation with another couple and two other women and a very nice meal with no effort. We still can't invite our families - the staff isn't even up to basic levels from the pandemic - a wonderful feature our first two years here that I hope will return.

Then I went for a ride in balmy weather on Maggie, my Airwheel S8, so you can picture me floating down the greenway on my bicycle seat on a hoverboard, getting smiles.

If I don't go for a ride every couple of days, my body and mind get anxious at every little bump until I get my sea legs back. The dining manager borrowed her and rode around the facility a bit while we ate - I happily offer rides to anyone who wants to try, and demos to those who ask about my steed.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, had to stop on our lane this morning as a deer decided it was just going to stand on the road and gaze at me, unfortunately I couldn't get my phone out quickly enough, had 3 meetings today, then went to Morrisons for petrol and shopping. Our real Christmas tree arrived at work today, unfortunately they aggravate my asthma, so that's going to be a fun month! Very windy today, and supposed to snow at 8pm, just hope it doesn't affect my plans for tomorrow. Made my cleaners day, had a tealight holder that I'd bought years ago as a present, then we found out the person already had one, and it's been in the wardrobe since, left it out to see if she wanted it, and she loves it.

Glad you had a nice Thanksgiving meal Alicia, even if your family couldn't be there. Hope your weather doesn't get much worse R

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Morning, between the storm and my sciatica, I had a rubbish night sleep. We decided last night not to go to Glossop (it's about 26 miles from here, so not round the corner) and looking at the damage reports, good job we did change our mind - we've had some sleet, but still very windy. Think I'll do a couple of errands, then I might put my fluffy PJ's on and lie on the sofa, given that I have little housework thanks to the cleaner.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Alicia, glad you had a good meal, Ro and Desley, sounds like a day to batten down the hatches. It’s sunny here, which is always good, but it’s very, very cold. No wind as yet but it definitely looks to be what my mother would have called a weather breeder!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Morning, yesterday ended up being less boring than I thought, I did my errands, came home and put my fluffy daytime PJ's on, then at 3pm, friend rang and asked if I wanted to go for a walk to the candle shop, obviously I went and got dressed again. I told her how glad I am we are friends again, it's been so nice this past month doing things with people who ask what I want to do, and also don't put me down for things I want to do/eat/wear/buy - I do need to start being strict about books and scented things though, have asked the candle shop to ban me from buying anything other than food and drink from there.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Woke up to snow falling this morning - proper big flakes - which was a surprise, it's very rare here right on the coast. Melting already though. Our roof seems to be intact but many of the new houses have lost a lot of tiles. Two lovely big old trees down on the main road into town, and along the coast at John Muir country park the tree stands have come down like skittles. Bit of a mess!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments We've had a few hours of snow and looking a decent depth, hoping it goes overnight, although I sent a pic to my boss as she doesn't get much snow and she said if it doesn't, then she is in the office so can do the printing for me, which I am rather grateful for. I had come down before from cleaning, opened the door to see how deep it was getting and neighbour was sweeping snow off her car, we just looked at each other then I shut the door, hoping encounters stay like that!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Well, that was an interesting start to the day, there was still a bit of snow around and a weather warning for ice, but I decided to go in the office anyway. Left early to scrape the car, to discover that I'd been partly blocked in and the angle I needed to leave the street meant driving over sheet ice, so I came back, put my working from home clothes on and worked from home instead. Felt rather guilty for getting my boss to do my printing she's really snowed under at the moment. Still some snow around, wasn't a fun drive to drop the car off for it's MOT, or the walk home, then just as I was going to put my PJ's on, realised I needed to go to the chemist. Just done the weekly quiz, I did a lot better this week, so while it doesn't have the social interaction, it's a nice fun thing, given how much I like games and quizzes.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments We had a bit of snow but it was mostly gone by the morning. It’s still hanging around where there is shade though and it’s been bitterly cold. Very glad we have power and heat. I think otherwise I’d end up spending the day sitting in my car with the engine running and the heater on.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, had a nice walk with friend at lunch. Was getting a bit worried by hometime as I'd not heard from the garage and no one was answering, as I got there, noticed a BT van across the road! Passed with no problems, not surprising seeing as it's done the grand total of 1,170 miles in 12 months!

message 16136: by M.T. (last edited Dec 01, 2021 10:33AM) (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Glad the MOT went OK Desley. Did the Mum run today, if I turn off the M25 and go cross country from the junction before mine, it takes about 20 minutes longer to get to hers. Useful to know when they shut the M23. Not so great when every single B road is being dug up to put in Super Fast fibre. Fuck off superfast fibre! It'll be obsolete long before they've finished digging up every single frigging road in the country to put the bastard stuff in! Mwahaharhgh!

So yeh, it took me about an hour longer to get down there, but only because I stuffed up by not taking a right turn and deciding to queue for the lights (add 10 mins for that one) Google brought me out on a junction in the middle of the closed section of the M23 - another 20 minutes for that one - and it told me to turn left then right on another, which I duly did, only to discover that 'turn left' meant 'follow this road round the corner'. It all worked out OK in the end but it was a pity because I was on target to be so early to Mum's that I'd miss popmaster at 10.30.

On the up side, I was able to listen to Close Enough, which sorted out some continuity questions I was meaning to look up about the one I'm writing. Also put me in touch with some of the character development again so I can keep it all on track, so that was handy.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, confusing day at work, think it might be the first Wed I've been in the office this year, so kept thinking it was either Tue or Thur! Let's just hope I don't wake up tomorrow thinking it's Friday!

Sorry to hear you had a bit of a nightmare journey MT. Thought about you and Jim today, colleague was talking about books and how creative people like JK Rowling must be to be able to create all these new words etc.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Wednesday. Pronounced wens-dei. Like a very British place name.

Still there, Desley. I get that exact same kind of confusion because the church van isn't taking us during the pandemic, but had locked that in for Sunday mornings before. Now I have to make a real effort.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, I woke up at 5.20 with my back killing, like I'd slept in an awkward position (highly likely, looking at where Lucy was sleeping) and couldn't get it to ease, there were quite a few of us in the office today, yet it was deadly quiet. Bitterly cold, went to co-op after work, nice to see everyone wearing masks, and bumped into my friend as I was leaving, at least we made plans to do something on Sat, as I literally have no plans for the rest of the year, and the beginning of next year! I was looking forward to going round various cafes, but this new variant makes me wonder if that is wise.

message 16140: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments "The rest of the year" sounds ominous - but it's really short now.

And so much of it will be full of necessary bustle and fuss, it will go even faster.

I believe the instructions re omicron are to use all the precautions - masks, distance, washing hands, not touching face, staying away from sick people - but nothing new and extravagant. They still don't know how much the vaccines will help with this particular variant, so we're back to full precautions at our community, too.

A good time for audiobooks?

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments That's not so good Jim, I hope it all heals well and quickly.

There was one poor chap at the Ophthalmology dept when my husband was in, who was having to spend as much time as possible with his head down with face parallel to the floor (something to do with keeping pressure on the back of the eye after they had filled it with gas I think). He was allowed to go to the loo and sit up to eat but then it was straight back down again.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, one of my tasks this pm was to monitor twitter to see if we'd won an award, as we decided against travelling to London to go to the ceremony and we won, so a nice end to the week. Went shopping after work, ended up having to go to 2 extra shops trying to get the girl's lik-e-lix. On the way home, got a text from a friend saying she'd had to have her dog pts this pm, he hasn't had a good quality of life for a while, but she couldn't see it. Bizarrely though, she randomly popped in my head this pm and thought I must message her, as not heard from her for a bit.

Staying clean and dust free must be tricky living on a farm Jim!

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Congratulations on the award - and sorry to hear about your friend's dog.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Morning, woke up about 5am and struggled to get back to sleep, managed it about 6.30, woke up about every half hour and didn't want to get up, relented at 8, to have some disgusted looks from the girls, they aren't used to breakfast that late! Luckily not much to do today, have started doing 10 mins of housework after work to have less at weekends (not like I have any plans at the weekend!), friend wanted to go and watch a steam train at 4pm, but it's supposed to be wet and windy all day, so can't say that appeals. I am looking forward to setting up my 2022 book challenge though.
