That's fantastic news! Well done. :-)

Yeek Lynne! That sounds like a recipe for zero sleep!

It's a bit overcast here but warm and I'm about to do some writing for half an hour or so. Then I have to make some cake.

I keep reading about hot weather in the UK. Is it in the fiction or fantasy section. It’s thick mist here again!

That is good news. Hope it keeps up
I wonder if people have been staring at the same walls for too long and it's easier to hang a picture than redecorate? :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Well despite my foot being bad again, I went to the candle shop, was so hard to only come out with the eggs. Sun has decided to come out now, it was raining this morning. Still windy though, am trying to get chores done while it is cool so when it is 25 on Sun, I can sit outside reading enjoying it.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments I need to do that, Desley, find a place and time to read outside.

California is beautiful. Davis has flowers everywhere. Yesterday I had a long ride on Maggie (my Airwheel S8), and went off our campus for the first time in weeks. I sat for a while on every shady bench I found, talked to no one, finally relaxed after a stressful week of doctor's appointments and etcetera - I needed the peace. Balmy weather, but not enough rain. There will be fires again. But not yet.

We are to have Mass here for the first time in well over a year. They used to take us every Sunday until the pandemic started. I've never gone without going to church every week before - online doesn't work for me - and my voice seems to have turned into a frog's! What a year! I'm afraid the effects will make it much more like two years before we get any control in the world we can trust.

One of the casualties has been Lyft and Uber drivers - I disingenuously requested one the other day, and it never came. Then I read The New York Times that it is extremely difficult to get one.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Morning, supposed to be cooler than yesterday, so going to go for a walk - friend is on hol, so I can go to the reservoir she doesn't like, take my book and hopefully sit and read a bit, then as I couldn't get takeaway pizza, I'll get a sandwich from the coffee shop when I go for my drink, as they couldn't open on Wed, so will be down on takings.

Glad you managed to find somewhere outside to relax Alicia, and hope you enjoy mass - I do think it's good that churches have managed to adapt and stream services, I know my telephone friend has appreciated being able to watch her old church in Scotland every week, when she would only get there a couple of times a year in person. Was talking hols to the woman in the candle shop, she thinks they are going to put theirs back again, and said 'hopefully next year', which is exactly what we said last year!

glad you're sticking with it
The Scilly Isles could be a bit special this time of year

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Aww, I'm so pleased to hear that Stuart

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Morning, got woken up at 4.45 by a cat in my bedroom growling - it was girls night out, but the door was open, I suspect it was Coco who had come in growling, probably trying to show Lucy how it feels!! Luckily Lucy was asleep on the bed with me, so didn't react and I got up and shut the door, but struggled to get back to sleep, so was 7.40 when I woke up. Read 340 pages of my book yesterday - 170 pages left, so should easily read that today, although supposed to be very cloudy today.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Beautiful morning here, too warm to plant my plug plants out or I shall have to water too much. OH has ordered his lunch. He’s wants a beef and beer pie outside and pretend he’s at a beer garden. I really need the oven chuffing away -thank you darling.
I’m taking an iced drink and joining him in his beer garden.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Alicia, glad you managed a trip out and got to mass. I've been lucky with church, it's only closed in the two main lockdowns, the rest of the time, with precautions in place, it's been open. I, too, have a voice like a frog at the moment!

Desley, enjoy your reading.

Top going Stuart. I'm from that way myself. My cousin does stuff at Knep, I think.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments I did thanks MT, even though we only got the sun at 5.20! Happy belated birthday by the way, enjoyed the blog post

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Grey skies back today. OH has decided the Dyson needs a new motor, it’s arrived and I naively thought it would keep him quiet replacing it. I can hear swearing and hammering. The you tube instructions didn’t sound like that 😀

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Afternoon, was so gloomy this morning that I went to work with my new winter boots, got them on Fri, but didn't expect to christen them so quickly! Of course it was sunny when I left the office at lunch, so prob looked a bit odd walking round Lidl in boots and a jacket! I bumped into my hairdresser as I was leaving, but I didn't recognise her, and I can't even say it's because she was wearing a mask, as she has everytime I've seen her in the past 14 months!! She not only recognised me, but remembered I was booked in this Sat, which made me feel worse. At least my hour and a half meeting today was only an hour, fingers crossed the same happens with tomorrow's hour and a half webinar.

message 15617: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments It is amazing how many people I've not recognised 'in the wrong context' :-)

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments I have the opposite problem - I recognise people but have no idea where I know them from...

We've been contacted by a researcher from the University of Stirling looking for some help with research on library usage. If anybody can help her, the thread with more info and the link to the sign-up is here - https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, been taking advantage of the nice weather to finish the book I started on Sun, took my neighbour's new lodger to the park too, turns out him and his friend were looking for somewhere to play pool this Sun, we have a snooker club round the corner, so showed him where it was on the way back.

I looked but I'm afraid I've not been a big user of libraries since I left school. Having to drive into town after I've finished work, scrubbed off and had my tea probably meant they were shut when I got there :-(

Sounds like a perfectly lovely outing and day.

After some of the weather you've had, how nice!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, taken advantage of the last 20+ degree weather, even managed to get some washing done, back to mid-late teens and rain from tomorrow, typical as I have a couple of catch ups. At least a day without a meeting meant I could catch up before my day off.

I'm another one who doesn't use the library anymore, despite having one in walking distance, I have to say I blame the kindle for that, although I really only had Sat morning to go which was hard with my voluntary work

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Morning, day off today, had a rubbish night sleep, was woken by neighbours going to work at 6.45. At least the weather isn't as bad as forecast, as we are going to a local market town who have an artisan and fresh produce market, then lunch. Also need to go to Lidl, they are doing Caribbean week for the first time, they have some interesting drinks.

message 15624: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Rubbish is a good way to describe last night's sleep here, too - hope you get some rest later, and a better night tonight.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, had a really nice day yesterday, got some nice looking homemade amaretto jam and some local bread type thing, plus some stuff from my favourite health food shop. Lunch was nice, I was naughty and had a passionfruit gin, it came in a glass big enough to need both hands for! At least we haven't had any of the rain forecast, although that has meant I've had to water Lucy's grass pot! one of my neighbours bought a new car, it has a very loud engine, so can't see me having a lie in tomorrow! Had to go and get some petrol after work and dropped some of the wax melts I don't like at my sister's, seeing as she got a burner with the set I bought her for her birthday.

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments HELLLLOOOOOOOO! Well, seems I was last on here on 23rd November, which seems about right as I've been collapsing under the day job (that seems to last well into the night!), getting our house renovation finished and writing deadlines. Also, my headspace has been completely cluttered but I'm coming up for air. I haven't read through all the 967 posts I missed but am sure I will catch up with what's going on. Hope you're all well. x

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Hi, Kelly - no rush.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Morning, we did get some rain yesterday, but quite light rain. Got a hairdresser app in an hour, then am meeting an ex colleague for a walk and drinks - there were supposed to be 4 of us, but the other two have childcare issues, it's a shame, but I never got to say a proper goodbye to this colleague as she got made redundant after being furloughed, so will be nice to see her. Foot is quite bad today, but still going for a walk, think I'll wear my walking boots, even though I'll look a bit strange in the bar after. I did say to the coffee shop I wouldn't be in, but they are doing new flavours today, so i might have to pop in anyway.

So lovely to see you again Kelly, I have missed you - is the kitchen finally finished?

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Hope you have a great visit with your friend. It's hard to stay in touch.

message 15630: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments Thanks, Alicia - I am slowly making my way through the posts! Desley, yes, thank you for asking. We finally, finally, finally said goodbye to the builders last week. So, all now done. Hope your foot is okay after your walk?

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Morning, had a lovely time with ex colleague yesterday, the time went so quickly. We did our walk quicker than expected so got to the pub half an hour early, but it was quiet, so they had no problem fitting us in early - we got the option to sit in the beer garden, as long as we didn't want more than 2 hours, so we took that up, was nice sitting in the sun drinking a cocktail, we had some food too. Then I got home and finished my book. must do some housework today though, we have had rain overnight, but dry now, supposed to be cloudy and cool all day, hoping it might dry my bedding.

Glad the kitchen is finally done Kelly, hope you can start getting back to normality now, and hope the workload eases off.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, busy day in the office, and a busy week ahead - 4 meetings on Fri! Quite chilly today, we are supposed to have a nice July though.

I did thanks Kelly, and another meet up arranged for next month, although only 3 of us next time, will be Sept before all 4 of us are available on the same Sat! Glad the workload is getting easier now, take it you are glad to be back in the office?

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments I had my back waxed on Monday. It's lovely and smooth, I can't stop touching it.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments So, I tidied and hoovered the front room after work yesterday ready for the carpet being cleaned, got up to find Chanel had left clumps of fur on the carpet!! Luckily he isn't going to be here till 1pm, so I've had chance to quickly whiz over it again. Going to a local cafe to get takeaway tea tonight, not been for a bit, so thought I'd give them some support - so hard sharing round the nice local businesses!

How very random Michael!!

message 15636: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments Yes, Desley, extremely glad to be back in the office. I need the cut-off point of leaving work and physically coming home (only a 10-15 min journey, mind!).

Well, Michael - that's good to know.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Thanks Michael at least it was just your back.

Hey Mary did you know Harrison Ford was in Melrose last week? Dangling from the Leaderfoot viaduct (may have been a stuntman tbh) and then out and about buying pies from Baird the butcher.

Idiot neighbour made me shift a lot of my plant pots yesterday so that a delivery she was expecting could get up the shared path. (there was already plenty of room but I humour the silly woman). The delivery turned up in a huge lorry but was too wide to get through the gate... I certainly didn't laugh oh no.

Apparently Harrison Ford was in Newcastle a few days ago as well so something's afoot

As for the lorry, sounds like Karma has had enough of your neighbour and is starting to pay back :-)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Did the Mum run yesterday. Knackered. She was in good form though, and I managed to pick up a clock she'd had mended.

It's supposed to be lovely and sunny here this morning so I'm off for a bike ride in a minute to enjoy it. I have to go and collect a parcel from the post office depot which is a couple of miles give or take; up hill all the way there and down hill all the way back. :-)

Michael Cargill wrote: "I had my back waxed on Monday. It's lovely and smooth, I can't stop touching it."

Yikes! I bet that hurt.

Bollocks! I missed him. Mind you, Baird's pies ... he's clearly a man of good judgement.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, carpet looks much nicer now it has been cleaned, although there is still quite a strong smell from what he used to clean it, poor Lucy doesn't like it and has barely been down, or outside. Have had the door open quite a bit, but neighbours cat keeps coming in, which isn't helping Lucy's stress levels! He has been very cheeky today and screaming at me for food, told him to go home if he wants food, I'm not feeding him in my house. I've been offered 40% off the next two books in a series I'm collecting, which would make them £2.99, can't decide whether to get them now or hope they come on offer for 99p like the last 3 have. Neighbour thinks I should, as they would only work out at £1.50 a book if you average it out, very shocked she said I should, am used to her complaining I don't need any more!

I'm quite lucky Kelly, I can switch off at home time, although I don't pack up bang on time most days, did an extra 15 mins today and I do an extra 30 mins on a Fri as I get bored waiting for my official start time. That is quite funny R!

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments A very self-centered approach: if the author is an indie, buy them now - there is a reason for the sale.

If the author is paid by a traditional publisher under a contract, do whatever you like - the authors won't see a penny more.

Sorry my biases are showing.

Whilst I can image a spouse, who has to live with them, complaining you have too many books, I must admit that I see no justification for a neighbour even hinting on the subject!

Totally, I'd say she's just jealous that books get some of the time she'd like you to spend with her. But what do I know.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Afternoon, had my 121, only lasted half an hour, which is how I like them. Just one meeting left. We are trialling a blended working policy, so 3 days in the office and 2 days working from home, it's better than I expected and my boss sounded positive that my request would be approved which I'm happy about, still gives me scope to support local businesses. Going shopping after work, and need to pop to a colleagues' house, he rang me this morning, they had to have their cat put to sleep last night and wondered if me/the charity could use the stuff - didn't tell him I no longer volunteer, I can still get the stuff to them.

Even bigger irony Jim is they are kindle books! That's an interesting thought MT. I think sometimes she is that used to fussing round after the lodgers that she does it to everyone but it can be really overbearing

Hope the blended working works for you, it'll be interesting to see how many companies introduce it

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments My daughter in Edinburgh goes in to the office for two or three days a week and works from home the others. Basically because they aren't running the office at capacity yet. I don't know if that will be a permanent thing, although they still aren't going out to clients to do audits on site yet.

Had a lot of rain overnight, first for ages. Everything has cooled down a bit - these 20 degree temps were getting a bit boring! Got to drive into Edinburgh tomorrow which is a bit of a pain - although going in will be fine, there will no doubt be a procession of folk heading out to the coast for a day out on the way back. And then when they arrive here they drive round and round the foreshore road and the High Street in the vain hope of finding a parking space, rather than just parking up the hill a bit. But some folk can't walk the length of themselves, apparently.

A major issue in the Lake District and other places :-(

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Yeah and the ironic thing is they've often arrived with the plan of "going for a walk"

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Morning, was woken up at 5.30 by some very noisy birds, and haven't managed to get back to sleep, so a bit headachy now. Productive shopping trip, got some new sandals, popped into specsavers to see if they still sold my glasses as I was going to just buy a new pair, but they changed the screws in my old pair and they fit much better. And I couldn't get a limited edition white chocolate irish cream Aldi brought out at Christmas, but randomly they had some yesterday, it is very nice. Not looking forward to the baby shower, but at least it's in a pub and they are giving us afternoon tea, and I get to briefly meet an ex colleague who couldn't come over last week, so that will be nice, not seen her
since before Christmas. Hope the weather is nicer there though.

I could live with 20 degree temps R!! Hope you don't hit too much touristy traffic.
