Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Evening, popped round the village at lunch, as the candle shop were doing an offer on car air fresheners, I've not bought any for over 12 months, but thought it might be an idea to get some now, I was going to pop to the charity shop, but the coffee shop had some new bakes in, so I went there instead - I was torn between two of the new flavours, went in and they had one they hadn't advertised, so went for that, white kitkat blondie. Had to do the shopping after work, treated myself to subway for tea, luckily the rain never appeared.

Unfortunately it wasn't the subject matter that was boring Jim, the presenter was quite interesting, but it was around how managers deal with our new policy and the forms they have to do, which doesn't apply to me

Jim | 21809 comments You'll have heard the joke?

Man to manager. "I have a problem."
Manager, "We don't have problems, we have opportunities."
Man to manager, "OK, I have a drinking opportunity."

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments Haha! No, not heard it before. Good one.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Morning, nice than expected, rain isn't due till later. Roofer is coming at lunch, I need to go round the village for a couple of bits (went to candle shop for car air freshener yesterday, got back and neighbour asked for one, so going back!). No real plans for the long weekend, and little housework either.

I've not heard that one before Jim - one of my colleagues did start by saying he could do with a drink, apparently that is a common one!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Morning, ended up a better day than expected, I had arranged to walk tomorrow, but walking friend was up early and I had some time spare before the roofer came, so we went for a walk admittedly, it started hailstoning when we met, so we had to wait 5 mins for it to blow over. Annoyingly, roofer didn't have the right ladders with him (I just live in a normal size terrace house, so not sure why he didn't have the right ones), so he is coming back on Mon. Did finish my book yesterday too, so going to do some work on my reading challenge today.

message 15456: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments A roofer not having the right ladders? How unprofessional. And now you have to be there again.

Happy reading!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Apparently it isn't an issue if I'm not in tomorrow, not sure how happy I feel about that mind. I do appear to have gone over my book budget again this month, although only by £1 this month, best of the year - I could probably drop one, but hey ho!

message 15459: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments You know perfectly well that leaves the windows dirtier than when you started.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Morning all, we've not had as much rain as forecast yet, so not sure if I will be getting the roof done or not today. Should still be going for a walk though, rain doesn't stop us. Not much else on though.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments The weather is quite wild here, back to normal, rain beating on the windows and blowing a hooley, at least I shan’t have to water plants tonight. Had a scam call from ‘Amazon’ saying my prime subscription expires etc. As I haven’t ever subscribed it was the same number who rang and told us a fortnight or so ago that our credit card was used to make a £300 purchase.

message 15462: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Would LOVE to take your excess rain. California is so dry this year, again, and I dread the fires.

message 15463: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments It isn't really excess, we've had a dry April which is unusual

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Evening, I made a mistake when I was going for a walk, it was only fine drizzle when I set off, so I went for the thin coat with a decent hood. By the time I got to my friends (10 mins away), it was getting rather windy, by the time I left her, you could wring water out of my coat cuffs, and when I got home and stripped off, I was wet to the skin all over! Not helped by the fact I decided to do the food shopping and take back the leggings I bought on Fri that don't fit too well while I was out, rather than on my way home from work, I was that cold as I left Aldi my teeth were on the verge of chattering. Neighbour wanted me to go to Costa, which I was happy with as I could have got a hot drink, but everyone wanted to go to the retail park so there were queues from both directions, so I changed my mind, came home and had a hot bath instead. Not heard from the roofer, didn't expect him to turn up, but thought he might have let me know when to expect him instead. Amazon decided to deliver my parcel a day early too, luckily I'd been out of the bath 5 mins when it turned up.

You can have some today Alicia, but it has been so dry here, that is why we have had some wildfires.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Evening, nice sunny day, went round the village on my lunch break - candle shop were doing free samples of wax melts, I felt guilty yesterday just going asking for some, but today they had some cheesecake in, can't remember the last time I had some, so I didn't feel as bad asking for some after buying that (and neighbour wanted more car air fresheners as they are still half price). Unfortunately you couldn't choose flavours and one of mine was monkey farts!

Quiet on here, are people taking advantage of being able to do things?

message 15466: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments I'm still boggling at the monkey fart air freshener :-)
Yes, it was a nice day but I got trapped inside by a zoom meeting in the afternoon.
But tomorrow I go and see real people :-)

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Not sure how monkey fart would freshen the air but it may clear the room!

Turns out it is quite noisy inside a beach hut during a hail storm :D and looks like it may be snowed off today.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Haircut for me, it’s grown quickly in captivity. I’m walking as i can’t drive comfortably as I cut my finger really badly yesterday and if I grip the wheel it’s painful and will start bleeding again.
I still haven’t found the bit I cut off, I was making crumbs for stuffing. I’ve really gone off sage and onion stuffing.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Evening, there was white slushy stuff outside when I got up, I knew we had sleet forecast, but didn't expect it to still be there when I got up! I now have a telephone rheumatology app, someone has clearly remembered they said they'd do a three month follow up after my app last August!!

I thought monkey fart wax melt might tickle you, it is a very odd smell, not sure how they came up with it.

Laughing. And wondering how to clean that smell out of my imagination.

message 15472: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Monkey farts sounds like some cars I've smelled but not in a good way! It's a bit warmer here, which is good as it's been cold enough to freeze an eskimo's chuff. Just off for a half hour walk to hand my treasure in in a moment. Might bike it though. Not sure. I have two chapters to listen to from Gareth so a walk (and a listen) might be more practical. It's bright sun and cloud here but the showers are wintery - hail rather than snow so far though (except for last week).

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Well, it's 12.37 and I'm still waiting for my 11.45 telephone consult - as I have a meeting at 1, I wouldn't be surprised if they rang during that! Rang the dentist this morning, they have a cancellation next Thu, so have booked that, and then the doc text asking if I wanted my second jab next Sat, so have agreed, its at 9.45, so should still be able to go for a walk with my friend. Pub tonight, I'm looking forward to it a bit more now there is no rain forecast and temps are a bit higher.

message 15474: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Pub will do you good. It'll just totally break the routine and be different

You'll probably feel like a naughty 16 year old sneaking off for a crafty underage drink :-)

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments Pub? What's that?

I cannot effing wait for the 17th May 2021 to roll around.

11am for a nice Guinness and double-vodka Redbull.

That's very kind of you to celebrate our 46th wedding anniversary!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Morning, funnily enough I did start feeling nervous just before I set off, friend's OH said that was quite normal, and he felt the same the first time they went to the pub. We had a slight problem at the first one, they tried refusing to serve cocktails as they can only serve in plastic glasses after 8pm (table was booked for 8), we said as long as we get the right amount of alcohol, we don't care what you serve it in! They were 2 for £12, so we had to have 2 each, raspberry amaretto and blackjack (which just seemed like pernod and coke). Did struggle with a couple of my drinks though, very much out of practice. Got to bed at 3.30, and was wide awake at 6.30, I do feel physically tired, but mentally I'm wide awake. Contemplating treating myself to a hot choc, but weather is atrocious, I said to my friend that as much as I enjoy walking with her, I'm glad that this week was going to the pub instead, regardless of the weather. Luckily not much to do today. I should have had an eye consult at 11.45 yesterday, I'm still waiting for it, so glad she booked me a face to face one at the end of the month, I'll just give up chasing and wait for that now.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning each. Well, it's whizzing down here. Be careful what you wish for, as they say. I'm not even prepared to take the tomato plants that come on to the kitchen floor at night, back to the greenhouse. It's right down the end of a long garden and there are three journeys involved. They can stay inside. At the moment it's not much lighter out there.
Been painting pebbles. Need to get some more.

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments It's been pissing it down here. Thankfull, the forecast shows that it's going to be a lot warmer from tomorrow.

So glad you're writing, too. One day at a time for both.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Well done Stuart. Isn't it funny that we could do things to stop us being bored, but it's just to easy to sit on the sofa either playing games or watching TV?

42 and counting, by the time you read this is might be 43, well done.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Morning, managed to have a lie in today. Sadly I was going to go to a local market town but it's a bit late for that now. Hope neighbour suggests doing something. Might go for a walk but we have rain forecast

Stuart Ayris (stuayris) | 2614 comments Thank you for all your kind words everybody. Sober writing was oddly daunting at first but I'm gradually getting into the groove, swing and sway of it. Sober sport however is proving to be a whole other level of ruinous!

Pam Baddeley | 3334 comments Well done for keeping to the resolution Stuart.

Weather here has been very odd. Some days grey all day, others grey in the morning, then a clear patch, then grey, others OK in the morning then grey all afternoon - and chucking it down with rain too. On one occasion had to scoot to get washing in and got covered with melting hail! Very different from this time last year.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I’m quiet because I’m struggling with all sorts of rubbish happenings and a very sore deep cut finger. I feel like ET - Sod’s law is at work too, I’ve trapped it a couple of times because it’s sticking out and one door knob is very close to the frame. Next week has got to be better.

message 15493: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Hope your fingers heals soon, Lynne.
Well done, Stu.
We've been promising ourselves a trip to the coast when the weather bucks up. Typically, it's bucked up today but he's taken the car for a service and MOT so we can't go anywhere! I hope tomorrow may be reasonable too, Then we'll do a dash before the rain closes in again.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments My day didn’t get better, being so uncoordinated I dropped a Pyrex basin, had a fight with a roll of cling film and dropped his birthday cake. It was a sort of black forest gateau mess. Oh dear.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Oh dear Lynne :( Chin up, tomorrow will be better, surely.

Good going Stuart, keep it up!

We had summer today, I was outside all afternoon WITHOUT A COAT. There are loads of swallows flying about and lots of visitors in the town although they're all British, normally I meet people from all round the world. This summer will be different, of course.

Our next door castle (there are a lot!) along the coast is closed tomorrow as there is filming for 'Outlander' taking place, apparently. I've never watched it because I started reading the first book and it was a load of mince.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Evening all, random weather again today, we've just had hail and thunder, but it's 11 degrees, I didn't think you could get hail when it's that warm. I did some errands at lunch, including popping into the candle shop, but was very good and came back empty handed - I love the smell that lingers on your clothes after being in there.

Oh dear Lynne, shame you can't go to bed and hope that tomorrow will be better!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Today was better for me. We had a new electric door fitted on the garage. At one point it jammed with OH and the fitter inside. It’s all sorted now. When the house was built in the 1920s it had a sectional door on a track and an electric motor. When we moved in the doors were piled in a heap flat on the floor and we found the motor on a shelf so we had wooden doors made which have lasted until now. It was half the price to have this roll up electric door than new wooden doors. How things go full circle.
