Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments There’s only emergency dental work in Wales. I’m not eating any sweets! I don’t want a problem. My daughter recently lost a filling and was seen, we had to wait outside (in the rain) I could see a large ventilation pipe like a tumble dryer pipe but twice as wide hanging out of the window and a dentist came out to help a wheelchair patient leave the building and he was wearing a full breathing apparatus with a backpack.

Seriously, that strikes me as something of an over reaction. Given the precautions they're already supposed to take for diseases like CJD and AIDS

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Bloody hell. That was a bit of a week. Got my book back from the editor, went through her comments and sent it back for the second sweep. Also had an unexpected weekend with my brother, sis in-law and nephew and niece which was lovely, but unfortunately, we swung it because my Mum had a stroke and they thought she was going to die. She’s on the mend but it’s been a bit rough. She had a walk in the garden with her carer today though, so that was lovely. And it’s sunny and she was in good form when I phoned this morning and seems to be on the mend.

Onwards and upwards.

Agreed. Maybe it was an excuse earlier, but shouldn't be so much in the future.

My doctor here usually sees me in a day or two by video; haven't tried the dentist since all I really need from them is a cleaning - hard to do by video.

I sleep with a mouthguard through at least one of my daily naps - there's a spot that needs taking down a bit, I think - and as long as I remember to do that, it doesn't get sore. Figured that one out myself - they wanted to dig in. I will be speaking with them when I return: I just want them to remove the millimeter of whatever is causing all the pressure to be at one point, not yank a tooth and put in an implant, which is what they wanted to do pre-covid.

Home dentistry for the quarantined!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Morning, I got randomly woken up at 4am, not sure what noise woke me up. Had a really nice walk yesterday, we went along the canal, which we haven't done since last year, it was really nice seeing the crocuses and daffodils coming up, and we randomly bumped into someone my friend knows and hasn't seen since before Covid, so we didn't walk as far as normal, but was nice to have a conversation, the candle shop has reopened, but they have bought a coffee machine so we had a drink for our walk too, I quite like this walking with a drink. Had to go shopping with my neighbour after, she drove for the first time but sent me in alone to the second shop, and some hot cross buns accidentally fell in the basket, last night I tried the new flavour, honeycomb. Nice, but wouldn't have said honeycomb.

Sorry to hear about your mum MT, glad that she is back up and on her feet so quickly though.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Howdy all! Blimey, some people have been through the mill.
I've had my head down finalising the next book.
The last few days it's been mild enough (I wouldn't say warm yet) to get cracking in the garden. Lots of pruning and about to start digging over the vegetable bed.
I put in an extra row of autumn raspberries, by lifting the pups, as my 93 year old and still gardening neighbour calls them, from a short row of Joan J. Excellent berry size and flavour.
Take care.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments You don't stop gardening when you get old, you get old when you stop gardening!

Yes it's been cracking weather here for the last three days and looks to be the same tomorrow as well.

Sorry you've had such a stressful week Mary but good to hear your mum is on the mend.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Its not the dentists choice. It’s imposed on them by our welsh assembly regulations. They’ve got to go one step further or different to England.
That’s interesting Desley about taking a drink on a walk. I see all these people running with water bottles which I assume is sensible and see so many people with coffee cups to go and it made me think back as I’ve never taken drinks anywhere except on a picnic or with a packed lunch. It’s a modern phenomenon.
The fine weather has brought people out in droves here. It’s been like carnival day on the prom.
Hope you have a calmer week Mary.

Unfortunately, I must disagree. Even weeding was pleasurable until it landed me in the hospital one day - totally dehydrated in a half hour. I miss weeding listening to music.

But that's why we moved. Husband hates weeding, and it wasn't fair he had to do it all. There are plenty of beautiful plants here, but I'm not involved with them.

Once we can have helpers again, I'm doing the balcony - north-facing, so it'll be succulents and low-light plants (and maybe some fakes), but I'll have them right outside my fourth floor window.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments The weather's changed here overnight. Misty and cold, but I'll wrap up and get on with it. I dug half the veg plot over yesterday but stopped when I got to the area covered with self-seeded foxgloves. These include white, pink and the traditional purple so I want to keep them. I cleared a bit of a flower bed alongside the front drive so they'll go in there this afternoon.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Morning, nice bright day but was rather chilly this am. Not much to report today

Yes, when I had to keep mithering the dentist's receptionist last year, she said it was governments rules that meant they couldn't do extractions. I've never been one for having a hot drink on a walk, just a cold drink but I'm getting into it.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Were having one of those sessions of having to pay big bills to stay in the same place. Nothing to show for it. Last week was a hefty car bill and new tv dish, this week it’s the alarm and next week it’s double glazing. It’s not a whim with the glazing it’s like sitting in an aquarium. It never dries out and it’s got a waterfall effect.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning! I got the foxgloves transplanted yesterday. Some at the back of the border but I let a few trickle down almost the the front so it should make a statement clump come flowering time. My hands were going blue when I got in. I can't be doing with gardening gloves. They never fit me and I need to feel what I'm doing.

Same sort of day today. I think I'll finish digging the veg patch.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Morning all, neighbour had a new lodger yesterday, ironically he has the same birthday as me and likes reading and walking, so can take him when I want to go for a walk, he's a big guy so I'll feel safe. Sunny but cold today, had to nip round the village on an errand, regretted washing all my scarves this morning!!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Morning, day off today, so of course I've been up earlier than I would to go to work!! I went back to bed with a cup of tea and watched a film, Lucy was so cosy she didn't even want her breakfast! Other plans are to finish my book, go for a walk, go shopping with neighbour (and she wants to get an ice cream from the candle shop, I might get a milkshake and thinking of buying some wax melts, not that I need any, just to support a local business!!), maybe watch another film and maybe do some housework. Neighbour gave me my presents for helping her out, my favourite is a Lisa Parker lamp in the same design as my bag and purse etc. Need to buy a bulb for it though. Got my next dental app through for next Tue, way quicker than I thought, although got to go to a different hospital, so neighbour will take me as parking is horrendous there, I should have been off next Wed, but have swapped it so it doesn't matter how long it takes or how I feel after.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Good morning! Not quite raining here. It's more what Sir Terry Pratchett used to describe as cloud with a weight problem.

While on our exercise walk yesterday, I told my husband the plot of the next book I'm working on. At the end he said, 'I'm scared!'
'Of the story?' I asked.
'No, of what goes on in your mind. Can't you just think about puppies and kittens?' ;)

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Today’s adventure is a Tesco delivery. It’s a very grey day here but my garden is bright with all the daffodils.
My neighbour in France mailed me to say how they’d brought in stricter restrictions again. Curfew 18.00 to 06.00, attestation to be out must be filled in and only emergency or essential workers allowed out. Only food and certain shops like pharmacies open at the weekend. They had in excess of 750 cases per 100,000 and had to send some intensive care cases from Nice to Brittany. Dunkerque in the north had 900 and hospitals there are swamped.
Considering where I am in Wales the BBC said today 25 cases per 100,000. I know the population density isn’t the same but there’s a hell of a difference.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments How do, each?
Search histories are a minefield!
Spent much of the morning so far pimping my new novel, but it's too nice not to go out for a walk. Nearest to a decent day we've had all week.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Afternoon, quite an enjoyable day off yesterday. I did feel bad on ratty neighbour though, she wanted me to go and help with her rat who had surgery, even if there wasn't the Covid concerns about getting that close to a neighbour I'm not in a bubble with, I'm not that confident with rats to either hold one or put something on one to stop her messing with stitches. Lucy woke me up at 5am this morning, which I wasn't best pleased with.

It does look as if the French were too slow with lockdown and too slow with vaccination :-(
It's going to be rough for them

Pimped in a bit of facebook as well for you :-)

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments It's been bitter cold here for the last two days after our first fool's spring. We had to endure an electrician coring through our two foot stone wall downstairs this morning - exceedingly noisy - and I would have been out for a longer walk to avoid it had I not got too cold.
In other news, the official Stella Artois Africa twitter account liked one of my tweets. Random!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Lovely morning here after the grey damp raw cold yesterday.
Today’s adventure for me is making sausages. I don’t mind once I get started but I hate cleaning the mincer gubbins afterwards. I make a proper mess. Pork, herbs and sun dried tomatoes.

For some reason a number of years I had one of my tweets (which was purely a blog post which effectively said 'buy my book' picked up by five people whom my late mother would have described from their photos as 'underwear models'
This tweet went out to hundreds of thousands of people.

I am not a fan

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Had a call from the doctors this morning asking if I wanted my covid jab next Wed - said I wasn't sure on the timing with having my tooth out on Tue, so she told me to book it and let them know on the day if I don't feel up to it.

Well, I don't mind rats, but there is a difference between not minding holding them and looking after them when she goes on holiday, and helping dealing with a poorly one.

In our case we have a dog and a cat who would both be struggling to cope with the idea we had got their lunch in a cage for them :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Morning, woke up late for me, but still let myself watch a film in bed with Lucy, neighbour wants the Sky Cinema pass, so I said I'd use my free trial and see if they give me a better deal than they have her, so am watching a few just in case! Waiting for my friend to wake up to go for our walk.

I was lucky when I had my pet rat Jim, Zia was scared of him, Molly was indifferent, and Buster occasionally let him sit on my knee (was weird having a cat and rat curled up on your knee!) - he only tried to play with him once. Had to be careful when I got the 18 month old foster cat mind, she was much more savvy about what a rat was!! Not sure what the current 3 would do, bearing in mind Lucy has brought things with legs home and Coco has had to fend for herself outside.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Morning all, got woken up at 4.30 by the laptop making a random noise, won't charge that in my bedroom again!! Watched a film in bed, got a bit of housework to do today, sunny but cold.

Even better if you stay indoors :D
It is astonishingly cold - somehow feels colder than it did when we had the snow. But the birds and the spring bulbs are all pushing on regardless. And I'm enjoying the fact that it's now daylight before 7am rather than nearly 9 like two months ago.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Bleddy freezin ‘ere this morning - Even the marina was partly frozen over. More frost than we’ve had all winter but a lovely sunny day, I thought it was today the new window was being put in but got the day wrong. It’s supposed to be Wednesday and we’ve a storm warning. If it does blow hard on Wednesday it wil, have to be cancelled as they won’t be able to handle a big window. Husband says with the covid restrictions he’s not offering to help as he would have done if our old window man was fitting it. I’ll be upstairs reading with the dog and keeping out of the way.
Good luck with the tooth Desley.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Morning, woke up early obviously, me and Lucy chilled in bed, I've just been for a little walk in the drizzle, and now going to have a big meal cos I won't be able to have lunch! Need to do some tech stuff at my neighbours once I'm back, then think I'll chill as you aren't supposed to do anything strenuous after an extraction to let it settle.

Good luck with the window Lynne

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Keep your face warm too, it may be an old wives tale but getting cold in the wound isn’t good.
The man and dog are really getting on my nerves this afternoon . He’s treated his chair arms with a wood stain and until it all dries it’s in the other room. The dog is discombobulated and wants him to sit in his chair which isn’t there so he can climb on the footstool and settle down in his usual position. . It’s like living with a pair of tigers. Prowling and pacing and its really annoying.

Would be lovely to catch up with you amazon army folk at some stage (that's of course if you'll have me - I think I was a little tipsy back in Derby...)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Thanks guys, it's getting a bit painful now the anaesthetic is wearing off, was a good excuse to lie on the bed for an hour reading. Just making tea, mash, cheese and beans but can only have lukewarm food tonight, good job I like lukewarm tea actually, never had it through a straw before, won't be in a hurry to do that again! Hospital parking was horrendous, I was 5 mins late, as it's in a portacabin not the main building, she told me everyone struggles to find it.

Funny you should say that, I had a tooth taken out when I was younger and went to my friends, and we sat outside. Her mum came to say hello, I told her what I'd had done and we got sent inside as she was worried the cold would affect it - it was prob Sept as it was sunny but cool. Good luck with the house sale Stuart, do share tales of Bolivia
