Washington Post: "After 15 hours and rioters attacking the Capitol, Pence officially affirms Biden’s win."
I don't know what the next step it, but this is pretty definitive. I hope they hold all those domestic terrorists accountable - that is not how we want to do things here. At least I don't, nor anyone whose opinion I respect.

Finally decided to get to grips with sourdough baking. I love the idea of having a yeast you perpetuate, and never have to buy again. I've jointed a couple of Facebook groups dedicated to the art/science. It seems that it's de rigeur to name your yeast starter. Someone has called hers Clint Yeastwood! Mine's just Sadie. First boule to go in the oven this evening.

I wonder what the history books are going to say about yesterday! The US as a banana republic. And the horrible feeling we barely made it out by the skin of our teeth. Which is probably an exaggeration, but you guys DID manage to Brexit. I'm looking forward to history on that one, too.

Remember the history books will be written by people who also saw what happened in the next few years as well

Even better, there is video, where white supremacists tell you personally, and recorded at the Capitol, why it's okay for them to attack the seat of Congress with armed men.

Have a good day all.

Life goes on :-)

Sometimes I wonder if my mouse is double clicking when I am not?

I think the churches should remain open but at the same time, if it's putting people at risk and we are being told that the responsible course is not to gather in groups then clearly holding services is not exactly setting a good example. Tricky ...
Cheers

That must be a huge relief for both of you! It's good you kept calling - it might have been a while before she had the energy to call you. Glad your friend is better.

That's good news about your telephone friend Desley!
There's a nice wee programme featuring a segment on my home town on Channel 4 this evening - Julie Walters on the east coast train. (it's a bit of a stretch as the main line doesn't actually come here, we're on a branch line...) I think it's the one where she goes out in a boat with my friend Jane the lobster lady.

Nice to have good news Desley, hope things go well :-)

I have the same problem with 'why do you write'
Apparently the classic answer is 'because murdering people and burying the bodies in the garden is frowned on' :-)

We have the ridiculous situation that after Christmas day we stopped services because we were obviously going into lockdown, and just went back to 'private prayer' where somebody can come in and just sit quietly a long way from anybody else.
Then when the regulations came out, somebody can go to 'corporate worship' but not private prayer, but we decided that private prayer was safer so we cannot put anything on!

Wow Desley. Glad all is well. xx

We just shut today until lock down is over. :-( sad but we had to.

I don't understand why 'the church' did not meet outside for services, taking the message of courage, comfort and many other things to those who most need it. Now, in lockdown, it's not allowed!
Of course, I do know there are many obstacles to the above!

I dunno, I think it's about consistency and keeping everyone as safe as possible. I think most of us felt quite safe and that the precautions were excellent but at the same time, the people who've been banging on about the schools will be after us next. Schools ... depends which one. McMini's was excellent and I had no problems with the precautions they were taking, which were extensive. They still closed though and actually even with the incredibly strict precautions they took, they still had four or five cases at the end of last term.
I just said that if the people providing the services, sitting in the church while other folks visited, swabbing it all down and generally keeping it all going were being put at risk or felt uncomfortable it should shut and if they weren't and it could it would be good for it to stay open. If you look at the holy tweets section on twitter (phnark) it's full of vicars going, 'with deepest regret we've decided to close.'
I now have to go to London for an appointment with the knee consultant. Wish me luck!

I'm only seeing Jim's posts singly. I feel a little left out. ;)
Couple of days of the sort of sharp frosts that leave sheets of thick ice on the puddles have been followed with a slightly warmer day but the wind-chill factor doesn't make it feel much better. Keep warm, everyone.
Good luck, Mary!

Here there's no ice, it's finally thawed :-)

I have realised today that I haven't had a decent face to face 'real life' conversation with anyone other than my husband since the beginning of September. So lockdown really isn't making much difference tbh.

My daughter commented that because the only people she'd had a conversation with were close family and close friends, she was struggling to talk to people she didn't know well because she'd almost forgotten how to have that sort of conversation

And yet disappointingly saw on BBC News some interviews with Trump supporters who insisted it was all down to antifa (I had to look that up) and the Democrats pretending to be Trump supporters.

Hope the app went well MT. That is a sad thought Rosemary and Jim, one advantage of living in a small village, even the people who run the coffee shop always ask how you are doing.

There is no organization - I'm an anti-fascist, and many others who oppose Trump are. I'm also against dictators in general.
Any reasonable person who remembers the lessons of WWII is an anti-fascist.
