Long live exclamation marks!!!

Happy last day of 2020 everyone!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Well, not sure Happy New Year is appropriate, but I do hope that 2021 is a better one! We've had a bit of snow overnight, so everything looks pretty

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Happy 2021 to us all.

No tier change here so life goes on it its usual Groundhog Day manner.

The last couple of days have seen a heavy ground frost here but it was lighter last night. Still flipping cold, though. All take care. x

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Happy new year all, like most I’m glad to see the back of 2020.
What 2021 brings is anyone’s guess, I just hope we’ve all got the whatever’s needed to cope and thrive.
My kindle has just uploaded Animal Farm & 1984 a free edition I preordered a couple of months ago so as I’ve only seen quotes for 1984 I’m going to read it for the first time. Animal farm I read at school.. wish me luck. X

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments I struggled with both Animal Farm and 1984, so good luck! Think I'm going to go for a walk now, I like to do that on New Years Day, but this year will have to go by myself

message 14856: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Well we're in tier 4 in spite of having the lowest rate and still declining, ho hum
Barrow had it in spades early on and people talked about preventing us travelling, now we're the ones with least we're locked down.

Anyway happy new year everybody. I wonder how long it'll take the bureaucracy to lift the restrictions. We've still got restrictions in place that came in in 2001 with the food and mouth outbreak!

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Happy New Year all, although I can't say I'm really feeling it!

Kicking Johnson in the pants would help though, big time. Or indeed any of the uk cabinet :D

Here's to better and brighter days from now on. I'm 26 millionth in line for a vaccine wahey

That’s good one Desley.
Like you Jim we’re the lowest of the low but in the slammer with the highest.
Pass me my gun. I’m aiming at political pygmies
No mention of vaccines for pembrokeshire. The politic bureau in Cardiff hate us as we’ve got conservative MPs
Just dont try to tell me it’s not political. My aim isn’t bad at all.

message 14862: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Just been told independent living residents where I live will be given the vaccine this month. Yay!

I hope I live in a liberal enough place that ALL will get it.

And hope my kids will qualify soon.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Morning all, can't believe how quickly my break has gone! Nice frost on the roofs, and we are forecast snow later. Got a couple of errands to do, not sure if I'm going for a walk with my friend today.

That's great news Alicia, do you know how long it will take to get to you?

message 14864: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Snow sounds nice - now that I don't have to shovel it, Desley.

They said the first dose would be available before the end of the month, which depends on the county. They've asked us to sign up by Jan. 4 - then we'll find out when. I have the feeling it may be sooner; there are people who won't get the vaccine (I don't understand them), but it means there are more doses available for those who want it. Cross your fingers!

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Unfortunately I wouldn't trust the uk gov to roll out pastry, let alone a comprehensive vaccination programme. Useless bunch of huddies.

We've had a micro-sprinkle of snow overnight. I have resisted the urge to go out and play in it!

message 14866: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Happy New Year everyone. I hope it's a better one for you all.

Had my first vaccine dose yesterday. We're getting appointments from vaccine centres in dribs and drabs as they have spares at the moment so decided to jump on it.

No side effects so far except a sore arm, although sleeping on it probably didn't help!

We had a bit of snow when I went to pick up the shopping this morning, but it appears to be mostly gone now. Still got my thermals on for work though!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments It's coming down quite heavy here, I was happy to sit in watching it, but now tempted to walk to the park! There wasn't a lot of people out when I did my errands, to say it is a Sat.

Glad you have had your vaccination with no side effects Claire, and i do hope you don't have to wait too long Alicia

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Black ice here. Dog walk was ‘interesting’. He’s a ok going out but coming back he really gets a move on. I think he can smell his food a mile away.
Is health devolved in Scotland like Wales. I read NHS U.K. information then find out it’s not the same in Wales.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Yes it's devolved here too. That's why I don't listen to BBC news much any more as they generally give out information for England as if it were for the whole country.

message 14870: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments How do? No snow here, just deeply dark days so my solar lights in the bay tree come on for half an hour instead of all evening.

message 14871: by Anna (new)

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments Sorry, Kath, I shouldn't be laughing but I was caught by solar lights a few years ago, half price in December seemed worth a try. They work wonderfully well in the summer...

Actually they give out information for london and the SE as if it were the whole country :-(

message 14873: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Ours is to be devolved to the county level, too. I had to look up the word! Like it.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Morning all, snow has all disappeared now, and we are supposed to get rain rather than more snow, but currently got blue skies. Sunday chores and getting ready to go back to work.

message 14875: by Lynne (Tigger's Mum) (new)

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Is devolution the antonym for evolution? Just asking. 😀

Brother in law has tested negative now. My sister seems immune so far. Hope it stays that way too.
Sun is shining here -it shows up the dust but till I take the decorations down I’ve got a good excuse to ignore it.

message 14876: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning! No snow here (I'm happy to report). Heavy rain in the night but today it's sunny and cloudy alternately.

It's the last day of our holiday season as my sister goes back to work tomorrow and therefore breaks the bubble. Let's see how soon they get these vaccinations going.

message 14877: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Stay safe - ironic doesn't cover it when we're this close to a vaccine.

I made a mistake of using brioche in a tiramisu. It wasn’t nice at all, really claggy. I’m having to eat it for breakfast to get rid of it. I’m a proper martyr

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Wasn't fun getting up with the alarm this morning - my brother had bought me a new alarm clock, so I set that and the old one just in case! Wasn't sure how to switch the new one off, better look at the instructions tonight. Not the usual new year vibe in the office, not many people saying happy new year!

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Finally got the bill for Dad's care this morning. It only took them 21 months to send it, or is it 19? A sod of a long time, anyway. However, I have paid it so now that is the last bit of Dad related admin short of interring his ashes ... they are still at the undertaker's in a tupperware box I suspect, but we are going to batch him with Mum.

Hoping they roll out the vaccine fast. I have no clue what the rules are, either. I just look up the tier I'm in and wing it. Scotland and Wales each do their own thing, England does it county by county so there's nothing joined up as far as I can see. The BBC website usually does Wales and Scotland, I found the Scottish guidance on there rather more easily than the stuff for Sussex.

No sign of a vaccine here but someone at church has been offered the Glaxo one apparently. They're doing people like priests now, who interface with the dying.

Very cold here and very windy. I'm just off to put my towels out. They'll probably freeze solid but at least they'll be fresh.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Two neighbours (health workers) have had the Pfizer vaccine. I was surprised but pleased as they’ve got to protect the front line workers.

message 14883: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments So sorry about your increased quarantine. Hope the vaccine gets there before the virus for all of you.

I'm not moving from the apartment most of the time - because I don't want to compound the problem.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Lockdown again for us. On the upside, I have a newsletter going out today giving everyone a free short story. That was good timing for the UK peps. Also sent out the novel to the beta readers. Now I need to construct four more shorts and make the Christmas short I wrote into something longer - it needs a second half.

And goodreads is a bit borked this morning as well. I keep getting the over capacity message. Hmm ...

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Urgh, while I expected us to be put back into lockdown, I was still very sad at the news, which is ironic as it doesn't really affect me that much, I think a colleague summed Tier 4 up well - can't get a haircut or drunk, but can get food! Rang the garage last night cos my dodgy tyre was looking low again, and I was worried with driving to the hospital on Thu, he told me to go up at lunch and he'd order one - his supplier had one in stock, so they have offered to do it this pm for me, so left the car there and walked home (it's only about a mile up the road) and going back for it after work. I do love my garage. At least the sun is shining today, but there was a lot of ice around.

message 14888: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Eh up! We've effectively been in a self-imposed lockdown since the first. Odd dashes out to do the church arch, and to pick up supermarket orders (click and collect). So no difference for us - but the road is almost as quiet as in the first lockdown. I like that.

What with the op and the crook leg, me too since mid October. But the road in front of our house is still busy (boo).

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Our road is a sort of promenade along the haven. It’s been like a carnival parade at the first lockdown for people taking their ritual exercise. It was obvious some had never thought of going for a walk till the government encouraged them to do it. Like all novelties it wore off but has restarted with the latest lockdown. It’s like watching auditions for extras for Sean of the Dead or John Cleese is filming his Ministry of funny walks again.
Flip flops in January on black ice while taking selfies. I kid you not.

Blimey Lynne! Sounds as if all human life is there. We saw something similar the other day in Clare. Lovely tudor town and there's a lady in a tracksuit with three quarter length bottoms and fit flops going in there. Bare feet and just a t shirt. She must have been from the north pole somewhere because she didn't appear to be freezing. I'm woolly socks from about October through to March!

Cannot be from Newcastle or in such mild weather she'd be in short shorts and a crop top :-)

Same problem in California: the natives are freezing, I'm in sandals asking why they need a coat. I wonder how long it will take to fade after moving back here.

The greenway is popular - I've been wearing a mask when I go out on the trike; too much trouble to put it on and take it off with that many people out walking.

And we've had rain - hope it's enough.

message 14894: by Anna (new)

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments And here on the coast, I can see people swimming, surfing (of sorts) and paddle boarding most days but not in the last two when they finally became sensible and stayed away from the might of the wind and waves. Also had torrential rain, we just need a pipeline from here to California, Alicia, and I'd have turned it on for you.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments There are swimmers in the sea every day here - apparently the water temperature (it's the Firth of Forth but more or less the North Sea where we are!) at this time of year is higher than the air temperature. Funnily enough I am not tempted to join them.

There are always people walking around here, but I'm surprised by how many cars are still on the road, considering no-one is supposed to be going anywhere

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments That’s made me feel colder, it’s icy here but dry thank goodness. I can see the sea but the thought of swimming in it is too much for me. Water should have either soap or whisky.
Another friend has a husband ill but he’s in hospital with covid and low oxygen and she has tested negative like my sister.
A lot more bird flu and preventative slaughters in France this week.

It's here too Lynne, although I'm not sure it's as bad, they're just not reporting on it.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Urgh, feel very fed up today, and not sure why, as I said to a colleague, there isn't much difference between Tier 4 and lockdown for me, the only one I can see at the moment is 2 local cafes aren't open, I do feel sorry for them. I finally got round to ordering new bedding last night, so next time I make the bed I'll be able to put a double sheet on the double bed, rather than a king size one

Finger's crossed for your friends hubby Lynne. I can't imagine swimming in the sea in Jan - it's a Christmas Day tradition in Jersey, I've always been disappointed my brother hasn't done it!

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Have been sneaking a few peeks at the election certification disaster. I feel I have to apologize for what has happened in the 'cradle of democracy.'

On the good side, tomorrow, between 1-3, any resident (most are over 75) here from my floor will get vaccinated. Every floor has a timeslot, and they will even accommodate in the last slow those who didn't sign up, if they want the vaccine.

What a world!
