Mince pies done, I did have a slight accident. Caught one baking tray on the cooker knobs and for a few seconds some were airborne, juggling hot mince pies was a nasty moment. Felt quite proud of saving them. Then dropped two on the floor. All clean and washed up now. I’ve just been to the dentist’s with daughter - she got a temporary filling.we met outside and Harry and I went to see the crèche in the gardens. It had stopped raining and is very mild but foggy. The dentists had large evacuation pipes coming from their surgery windows and the dentist I saw helping a lady out in a wheelchair had a mask /helmet with a tube attached to a small pack on his belt at the back. Strange times aren’t they.
How do? Went to a local farm to collect our fresh free-range turkey this morning. Only sister coming for Christmas as she's in our social bubble, so I decided we'd only need half. I divided it - two halves, one wing, one breast, one leg to each - so half will be eaten on Christmas day (and beyond) and the other is in the freezer for Easter. It took one cook's knife and my well-scrubbed secateurs to do the job. Never done that before!
I heard a lot of people were cancelling the usual large turkey and asking for crowns etc. I chickened out altogether. We’ve got ribs of beef from the farm. The farm who produces all M& S bronze turkeys is local for us but last time I got a large one they get them off the premises very early so they can clean up before the workers go back home. It’s very mild here so its got to go in the fridge for days and i worried as it seemed too long and took too much room so I put it in the freezer for a couple of days which defeated the object of a fresh premium price one. I’m about done except for some bits I’m cooking tomorrow for a treat for daughter.
If I’d have had to cleave a turkey in two I think I’d have been fighting husband as well. He’d have wanted to use a disc cutter or some other manly tool 😀
Yes we're just having a joint of beef that was in the freezer for Christmas dinner given that there'll only be the two of us
Morning all, a least the wind and rain has stopped. Need to deliver a couple of presents today, now the weather has died down. It's Lucy's gotcha day today, have had her for 5 years now, that has flown!
Yes, have a good one. Had a good day, went up to Coniston to meet up with two friends and we went for a walk then a bacon butty sitting in the outside at the Bluebird CafeThey do a brilliant bacon bun!
First time I've been to Coniston since last time I met up with them last November!
Only the second time I've driven more than ten miles from home since March!

We're having beef tomorrow too Jim. Doubt we'll manage a wine with each course though as it's just the two of us. We have an assignation on a park bench planned with younger daughter in the morning so at least we can exchange gifts. Taking a flask of coffee with us :)
Been a lovely day here today and I finally managed to plant the last of my tulip bulbs. Bring on spring...
Phew, that wasn't the Christmas Eve I anticipated! Discovered that Curry's sale starts today, and I keep contemplating a laptop, my brother found me one better than I found (he didn't know my budget, the one he found was only £50 more, and better spec), luckily I get a discount at Curry's, so it took me under my budget. I could have collected for free today, but figured Curry's wasn't the place to go today, so paid to have it delivered on Sun. Then the vet rang saying Lucy's meds were ready, so I went up to collect. Started swapping presents then had to ring my neighbour and ended up dropping my phone in the sink - it appeared fine, but 5 mins later had a red screen. Couldn't put SIM in old phone as I had no tray in it, so had to go in town to go to Vodafone. Luckily I was close to my upgrade, and they had the identical model in, so it cost £43 (well, as I'm on contract that's being added to the next bill, figured I'd spent enough today), which ironically is what I saved using my discount at Curry's! And I drove past Curry's to get home. Now delivered everything and in PJ's. One good thing was the vet nurse sent off a claim form for me, and when Vodafone fixed my phone, I had a text to say it had been received and was being processed, hopefully I'll get a decent amount back from that. Glad people have food etc sorted for tomorrow

Hope everyone's managing to make the best of the strangest Christmas ever.Grandson, 5 in March, is so excited. They're staying in a cottage in Pickering just over the road from the steam railway. He's a Thomas fan. He thinks his Christmases have all come at once.

In spite of the best efforts of bureaucracy managed to meet up with one friend yesterday, and today one daughter dropped in to see us whilst her partner went to see his parents.Whilst she was here we talked to daughter trapped in Scotland (That isn't meant as harshly as it seems, Rosemary :-) ) on zoom. So that went well

Well, Christmas Day went better than expected, and we officially had a white Christmas!! Didn't do much, but was nice to stand outside with some snow falling, even if it was so cold talking to my friend that I couldn't feel my toes! I did end up with two identical presents though. Going dropping presents off at my sisters this pm, standing on the doorstep obviously. Glad you had a Zoom with the family Alicia and hope you enjoyed your Christmas dinner. Glad you managed to get on Zoom too Jim!
Yes it went well. I went to collect the paper and we're all standing about outside waiting for the papershop to open and one chap commented that this year you've really come to appreciate family and close friendsIt's concentrating on what matters

Hang on to your hats folks. The gale out there is really strong. It’s a refuse and recycling collection tomorrow here. It’s a system of hessian bags and plastic boxes so it will be a miracle if we get any containers back. The noise of the wind is quite frightening. Stay safe.

Currently more settled than yesterday, but 3 weather warnings in place. Fortunately my laptop is being delivered anytime between 8.30 and 5, so will be in until that arrives, neighbour did want to go to the cheap shop, but as we have snow forecast for this pm, I'm quite happy staying in! Hope no one else is too badly affected.
All good here, it’s a sad state to be so pleased about just getting our dustbins back. What a reflection of life at the moment. It’s got to get better hasn’t it.

Morning. Christmas day saw a phone call from son and his family and a squeakily excited grandson. We later had a Zoom chat with daughter and family (we were Zoom virgins but it went well) so all checked in and okay. Granddaughter #1, 16, has turned into an elegant young woman with a sharp sense of humour. #2 has taken on the role of moody teen - and each thinks she invented it! At the 'eating up the leftovers' stage now. Turkey curry tonight.
And all good wishes to everyone for a happy, healthy and successful new year. It's probably going to be better than this year!I would have been hosting a lunch for 10 today but nobody's allowed to come. Plenty of noise from the wind and sea instead.
Morning all, had a rubbish night sleep so feel quite drained. Had a frustrating day, waited in all day for the laptop, at 5 I ended up doing a webchat to find out what was happening, got fobbed off with 'give it another 24 hours, but we'll refund your delivery charge', about two hours later, got an e-mail saying it would be delivered tomorrow by DPD, at least I'll get a timeslot so don't have to stay in waiting. It's not exactly the worse time to staying for a day, although the weather wasn't as bad as forecast, disappointed we didn't get the promised snow. Can't believe I've had a week of my hols already, really need to start my decluttering, not that I'm in the mood for it.
The season's heaviest frost this morning, which combined with fog, made me glad to be going nowhere.
We’ve got the weather phenomenon of the Pembrokeshire Dangler. It really is a ‘thing ‘ I’m not making it up even if it does make me snigger when the weatherman says it. Well my sisters covid test came back negative but brother in law’s is positive so she’s still got another 10 days quarantine. Thus could run and run. I’m really pleased she’s negative as she’s 84, so how contagious is it.
Good afternoon from a very soggy south Cheshire. We had snow over night, now it’s almost all thawed and the garden is even more of a swamp than it was yesterday. With three dogs running in and out I’ve mopped the floor four times over the morning, now I need to do it again! Such is life.
Afternoon! Stil suffering from my Fuerteventura debacle (17 stitches in the sole of my left foot - long story...) but determined to finish the second tale of my latest novel today. House goes on the market New Years Day so who knows what the new year will bring?!

Morning, not on late because I had a nice long lie in, instead it's because my new laptop was being delivered this morning, so testing it out! Smaller than my work one, so a bit more difficult to type on, but the purple is lovely! Had a good day yesterday, I organised a cupboard and friend suggested a walk, we walked to the local lake and sat and had sherry and mince pies! I got there first, so sat and read the kindle app on my phone, thought I must do that more often (although maybe not when it is cold!). Woke up to snow this morning, although it is melting now, no plans other than houseworkAt least you see yourself as happy Stuart!
Morning all, rubbish night sleep, but fortunately my main plan for the day is working on my book challenge. We currently have freezing fog, looking at the weather forecast we might just get above freezing by lunch before dropping back below by 4, I was contemplating a walk today, but not sure now!
Hello all! Another lovely day here, clear skies and sun (clear skies and huge moon last night too). Very cold though! We keep getting threatened with snow but although it's all around us there is none here, as usual.Just taken delivery of my 2021 diary. I wonder if it will be as much of a waste of money as last years.
Neighbour's workmen have turned up to do some floor laying. Yeah cheers, thanks for that... Thought we might at least get a couple of weeks of peace.

I had to take stitches out when my appendix was removed, they'd left a couple in. But depending where your stitches are it's not difficult :-)

Hope everyone there is okay - news reports here are saying you have a resurgence of cases. Please use your precautions. From one hot spot to another? California isn't doing so well, either.
Tricky times Alicia. Hope you and yours are ok. I'm down here in Essex which has the highest rates in the country and therefore probably Europe. A heady mix of arrogance and ignorance is I think the root cause - two traits that are as almost as impossible to unlearn as my predilection for exclamation marks!!!!
Urgh, just heard the announcement, that has depressed me! I had really hoped we had done enough to stay in Tier 3. Only consolation is that it's January when we don't do much anyway. Neighbour has just been told her back surgery is next Thu, not sure if I'm happy about that or not, she won't be able to drive for 6 weeks, so suspect I'll be doing a lot of running around, suppose there isn't much else I can do.
