A friend of mine commented that covid 19 is a very Presbyterian virus in that you're allowed to work but you're not allowed to enjoy yourself.
Frankly a lot of little people are trying to throw their weight about

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments It’s really raining hard here I can hear it beating against the windows. Husband is out with the dog - the dog had to be hauled out of bed - the dog has more sense. I’d better get up and at least offer to dry the dog. Jim I’d better play the banjos again that will make me get up. I’m warm dry and so comfortable, he’s going to be soooo grumpy.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Ended up supporting a few of the local businesses yesterday, and had a nice chat with the people who own the café, they only opened last Nov, so they've had an interesting first year! Did go for a walk, the reservoir was even muddier than last week though! Supposed to rain every day for the next 10 days, so who knows where we can go next weekend, we are trying to get a few in over Christmas too. Housework today.

Do hope that going to Sussex doesn't set your knee back MT, can imagine how hard it would be fitting all that in every day.

Banjos always get people out of bed :-)

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments AIrhorns are good too :D

Pishing doon with rain here again. I can't remember it ever being this wet here. Haven't turned the lights off for days, it's so dull. Bit depressing actually, I think I'm going to rummage for the fairy lights and see what I can festoon with them to brighten up the place.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments My double glazing has given up in the front window. It looks a real mess. It looks as if it’s raining even when it isn’t. I think I’ll have to make some sort of decorations to hide it a bit. We’ve got localised flooding here and OH can’t keep the back of the garage dry as it’s running straight off the garden like a slow waterfall. The ground is completely sodden.
Banjos and airhorns are beaten hollow by the sound of the dog preparing to throw up. 😁

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Oh dear Lynne! I was thinking the ground round here must be sodden, and we have at least another 10 days of rain to come.

message 14759: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments I think that's general. Here when it rains now it just runs across the surface

message 14760: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments I wish we could redirect your rain - so many places in the world could use it, including here.

Can't wait until they figure out how to terraform THIS planet.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments I wish we could too Alicia!

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Drives me nuts: we're next to the Pacific Ocean, have plenty of sunlight, and instead of getting water for agriculture etc., Elon Musk is worried about sending rockets to Mars.

Solar power + ocean = fresh water through solar stills. Etc.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Well it's not raining today. Yet. So that's something.

If Mars were habitable it just might make sense Alicia. But we really should tidy up our mess here first.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments It’s raining here again with very strong winds. Just had a grocery delivery and I need to hide the little lads sweets so I can’t find them and eat them but remember where I put them on. Christmas Eve.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Well, I've got my dental app through - 26th Feb!!! Only 11 months after the referral. Had a box of chocs from a colleague who is retiring this week, with a lovely thank you note on it, ironic as we haven't always seen eye to eye! Done two hours for admin this morning, boss asked if I would have time to show him some stuff on the database, and I said that as I have to help admin, I won't have time to do that this week. Had a panic this morning, ratty neighbour messaged to ask if I was up (not sure why she had to ask, it was 8.40 on a workday!), then tried ringing, so had to ring her back thinking something was wrong - she's left her keys at home, don't know why she couldn't just message rather than make me worry something was wrong.

Good luck with that Lynne! I normally end up storing chocs for my neighbour to make sure they don't get eaten at hers!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments My niece hid selection boxes in her loft before Christmas - the mice had a wonderful feast.
I’m exercising will power as my tooth has stopped hurting but I know if I eat sweets or icing it will start it off again. Daughters ENT was 11 months too Desley.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Yes, I think places with women leaders have done better (although Germany are now having issues). Just seen London and parts of the South East are going in Tier 3 this week

I wonder if the fact you didn't see eye to eye means that he actually appreciated you more because you had an opinion and therefore were worth keeping in mind?

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Flu jab for me today. It will be the highlight of my day ( eye roll).
What’s everyone doing at Christmas. Will anyone be coming home for Christmas. Our daughter wants to come on Boxing Day, but I’m mentally making plans for food in case visiting isn’t allowed and OH can take their lunch over to them. What won’t spill or spoil in transit. I daren’t say anything out loud to either of them just thinking to myself.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Well, I did end up having a webinar yesterday, but wasn’t able to work through the boring bits like I expected, so then felt a bit behind again, came in this morning to find I couldn’t get on our server, just e-mail and internet, took the IT guys 2.5 hours to fix it, so now feel stressed again! I was on the verge of telling them to leave it and I’d go in, but then realised I have to monitor things over Christmas! Plus had a half hour meeting, although there was a lot of positivity in that. Colleague who is retiring sent a lovely message, which has just made me cry, glad I’m not in the office. Keep waking up at 3am, really hope I can catch up on my two weeks off. Already plan on drinking more than I do normally, seeing as drinking before 3pm seems to not affect my sleep.

Hope you don’t get any side effects Lynne. I think I’ll have to see my sis this boxing day, will be the first time in 10 years I’ve seen her over Christmas, but feel I have to this year. Am taking the things we used to have when we were growing up (stollen and trifle)

message 14778: by Lynne (Tigger's Mum) (new)

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I’ve got a really sore arm which I expected. I always get that after any vaccination. I was like a penguin for a couple of days after travel vaccinations in both arms. I also remember having to wear a guard contraption at school when playing hockey after one lot of jabs. Good excuse not to clean the windows though 😁
My brother in law has just tested positive for covid. I hope to goodness he and my sister don’t develope complications.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Yay, only one more get up now! We get our Christmas bonus today, a turkey! Which means of course I get to man the phone – preferable to handing out frozen turkeys! And tonight I get to pick something up from my sister’s and drop turkey off at my friends. I do get a hamper again for being a safety rep, I haven’t looked properly to see what I can and can’t eat, might give some to my sister though, although she isn’t having my salted caramel mince pies. Well, we are staying in Tier 3, might break my chocolate eating rules, so fed up of it all now.

I was lucky this year, didn’t get a sore arm. Wasn’t happy the year I had the pneumonia jab too, I had two sore arms that year. Hope brother-in-law and sis have mild cases with no complications.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments With the new guidance about not spending the night round at rellies it looks like we are going to have our first Christmas in our own home just us since we were married in 1995. I am glad because I was worried about inadvertently infecting my in laws, who I love very much, with covid 19. It's a bit of a weight off.

Have physio in a little while. Driving there for the first time. Also drove to Mum's yesterday and it wasn't too painful so that's a bonus.

Did some metal detecting in the garden and found a 1650s token (thing that looks like a medieval coin only not). Quite chuffed with that one.

Also have cocked up massively. Spoke to the editor a couple of months ago and she was clear for Jan, told her I'd get back to her. Wasn't sure I could get the book done, did, and now she has had another job come in and isn't free until half way through Feb ... which is when Gareth had a window for doing the audio.

Think I will have to send a message to my lovely mailing list peps begging for beta readers. I have a couple of peps I could ask but I can't afford to pay anyone so it's a bit shit ... ho hum.

Morning all, anyway.

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Hi everyone,

Hope you're all doing ok and keeping safe. The last few months have been a bit full on and I've stuck my head in to have a quick read on how people are doing but not had a chance to comment. I'm off for a few days now and trying to catch up with things!

I hope everyone manages to have a happy and safe Christmas, however they are spending it. I'm at work, on day shift, so it'll be interesting to see how that goes this year!

Hope your arm's feeling a bit better Lynne, I had my flu jab back in October and the sore arm was the only side effect I had. Gareth managed to bump me on that arm that night which didn't help!!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Morning all, had a busy last day at work yesterday, after a rubbish night sleep, then had to go shopping for 4 people and then deliver said shopping, was nearly 7pm before I could get in my pj's and relax. I got very little out of my hamper this year, but nephew looked thrilled - I felt a bit bad, I'd taken out the wine spritzer to try myself, my sister saw a bottle and thought it was wine, but it was a J20 spritz, so I'll give her the wine spritzer next week, she'll get more pleasure than me. Obviously woke up at 6am, did try and get back to sleep, but failed. Friend coming round at 12.30ish to get her delivery, then everyone has everything, apart from the last minute stuff. Hair app this afternoon which I'm looking forward to, and going to support the coffee shop by getting a hot choc on the way past. Need to do my Christmas to do list, which this year may include watching TV!

Sounds like things are getting a bit more normal with your knee MT, glad the drive didn't aggravate it. Sorry you have lost your slot with the editor, good luck getting it sorted. Lovely to hear from you Claire, sorry you are working at Christmas, I do hope you stay safe. Just read your blog post Alicia, and found it very interesting. I didn't realise that Independent Living doesn't qualify for the initial vaccination round, I do hope you don't have to wait too long.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments The cloud and rainstorms were so heavy here last night it took the free view signal completely off. We thought the wind might have moved come the dish but it did come back about 10 pm. Thank goodness I did start to think kindles, cards, dominoes, charades etc for Xmas as I didn’t think we’d get any repairs in this lockdown in Wales.
Arm still very sore and OH has a habit of nudging me to show me something on his iPad. It’s not funny, luckily I found something that gets bloodstains out of the carpets. 😀

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments We are happy the staff here are keeping us safe. Everyone wears a mask, the staff are tested weekly, even the Executive Director isolated at home for two weeks when he had contact with staff who later tested positive, and dinner comes in takeout cartons.

We miss the social life we moved here for - but being safe will keep us until we get the vaccine.

I just hope my kids can get it soon, too.

message 14787: by Lynne (Tigger's Mum) (new)

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Well my thoughts on Boxing day lunch and seeing/not seeing the family have be answered by the Welsh lockdown. I shall do their lunch and do a flyby delivery. The logistics of getting a bike and a sledge to a small boy in secret are another matter. Husband suggests as no one will be available or able to take him out on his bike - his dad has to work on Sunday - we should leave it till later. He won’t be disappointed as he’s not asked Santa for a bike and he’s got lots of other presents to open. Husband will be the one disappointed, not the little lad. Can’t be helped. Everyone is in the same boat it’s frightening that it feels like the ship of fools.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Well, I had a lovely time at the hairdresser, was nice to have some normality before the announcement changed all our plans!! Not sure what the new plan is now, as it was supposed to be part of neighbours family on Christmas Eve, walk with friend on Christmas Day and sis on Boxing Day - I could still see my sis on the doorstep as I have been doing though, and can still go for a socially distanced walk with friend on Christmas Day. Luckily the only thing we had managed to do before the announcement was order the cake, such a shame we'll have too much! Still drained today, going for a walk this pm.

Sorry you are in Tier 4 Michael. Glad that you are happy you are being kept safe Alicia. Sorry that you will have stricter restrictions Lynne, I did suggest doing a family meal at Easter last night. At least little lad won't be disappointed.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Had a lovely walk with friend, even if I was stiff at the end due to steep hills! Went to get takeaway tea as it is the last day the café is open, when I collected it, they said they have made the decision not to open in Jan either. Think I'm going to stop looking at the headlines, today's are ultra depressing. Raining today, need to wrap presents, wash up and an ex colleague is supposed to be dropping my card off and having a socially distanced chat on the doorstep - I was going to suggest walking round the corner to the park

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Morning all. We're cheerfully waiting for the plumber coming to fit our new shower this morning. One small spark of joy in the gloom.
Christmas on our own this year as neither daughter can come home now - we've known that the London based one wouldn't be travelling (we haven't seen her since last Christmas), but now our younger daughter can't come either.

I saw someone describe living in Scotland just now like being handcuffed to a friend who has been bitten by a zombie. Yes it really does feel like that.

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments Well, the weather is complete shite but I'm off work until 4th Jan.

Can't really do anything in Tier 4 as we've all got leprosy in the South East.

Apart from Xbox.

Or iPlayer.

Maybe wrap some presents.

But I need a poo.

PANIC BUYING TOILET ROLLS AHOY

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Sorry that it means you won't be able to see London based daughter now this year R, good luck with the plumber! Interesting analogy! I'm also off work till 4th Michael with rubbish weather, although at least in Tier 3 we can do marginally more than you can in Tier 4.

message 14793: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning each! I had a card and a lovely letter from Sarah - you remember - PhilipSarah. She asks to be remembered to you all and hopes you're doing well. She's still prevaricating about retiring - I think the current situation is persuading her - and of course they're great gardeners so she won't be bored.

I've got a couple of ring-shaped table centres to do; one for us and one for the people next door, but it's heaving down now so I may defer till tomorrow. The neighbours have been very kind to us during the lockdowns. Their 16 year-old son is a brilliant baker and we recently had a delivery of mince pies and truffles, all home made by him. They're worth being nice to in return. These next few days, until Christmas Eve, they're playing carols round the village. They all play wind instruments so have a brilliant home-made brass band! Collecting for the local hospice.

You're all well, I hope?

Sounds like you're all doing Christmas properly Kath.

Here we'll see one daughter for an hour or so in the middle of the afternoon, but the one who we were going to meet up with and who hasn't seen her mother since before last Christmas is trapped in Scotland. She's had a year living in a flat in a city where she knows very few people :-(

But at least she's got a job now and has been getting out a bit.

Otherwise work will continue as normal through the season

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Michael, I hope you enjoyed your poo, may I recommend Who Gives a Crap. It comes in a big box once a year and allows you to sail happily through anything lock down cares to throw at you.

Jim I do feel for your daughters. We had already decided not to go but Nicola's continued insistence that the English have cooties is very trying.

Have just wrapped some pressies, bought a lot on line, but NOT from Amazon because the bastards are still swiping half my audible sales by bigging up 'exchanges' and 'easy returns' as if it's a library and then clawing back the money from me. Gits.

Quite looking forward to Christmas at home. Looks like I will be the only one in the 'choir' on Christmas day so I'll be singing a solo. Gulp. We have a group of us who sit at the back away from everyone else and sing two hymns per service so the Eucharist is sort of sung ...

It's weeing down here and I'd better go and walk around in the garden before it gets totally dark. I've been a bit slug like today!

Morning all.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I’m sorry for all the disappointed families, I heard a programme where students were regretting going to Uni this year for those reasons. They’ve had a hard time away from home, paying for tuition and residence and not having the usual social activities. My grandson said all he wanted for Christmas was to see his grandma. We will take presents but we aren’t doing spending the day together - we’re sticking to the rules there’s no way I’m paying a fine.

message 14797: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments I'm making a bit more of an effort to see friends as well as family by zoom or Facetime or Skype - it is easy to neglect such visits, but they are very rewarding, and fill the space of 'seeing grandma' without endangering either party.

I saw an old friend from New Jersey yesterday who had been in the hospital and through rehab and apologized for not being in contact! I set her straight right away. But wish I could have been supportive while she was going through all that.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Woke up at 5ish, but did get back to sleep at 7, till Amazon posted my delivery at 9.20 - unfortunately it is wrong, so now get to argue with them. Was nice to catch up with a colleague, the café in the park was open (surprising as she didn't say that on Sun eve!), so we had a hot drink each and walked round the park, but I was bored by 2pm. Just got to sort out the fridge today and walk to Lidl, neighbour went to co-op yesterday for the veg and it was heaving, so not looking forward to that.

How lovely to hear from Sarah, glad she is doing well Kath. Good luck doing the table centres. Sorry that one of your daughters will be stuck up in Scotland alone Jim. Aww, bless little lad Lynne. That is a very good reminder Alicia, we still have ways of 'seeing' family. Glad your friend is doing well

OH asked me if I was teaching the kitchen to fly. I saw what he meant every cupboard door was open - looked like they were taking off.
Vile weather again here, Christmas tree is up and lit so that’s cheerful. New dog hasn’t touched my mantelpiece swag he’s much better behaved than my old girl who thought the berries were edible so every year I had to take it down.
