Well, it's supposed to rain for the next 10 days! So a mix of housework and chilling again today. Certainly a lot harder to get exercise in this lockdown.

Thanks Lynne, really dreading when they say I need to have mine operated on! I have them on both feet, but one is getting worse, one I barely notice. They are the reason I have issues with ingrowing toenails as well, at least that procedure isn't as severe

Yikes. That's all I can say to the bunion op. Please lord no. Off to get some warm tracksuit bottoms now. These ones are chuffing freezing and I'm fed up with wearing long johns underneath! Getting a takeaway from a local restaurant tonight so am binning the pain killers and drinking. Not as worried as I might be about that, which is good.

We had our first rain of the season - California is DRY. We need more, soaking the forests and creating snow mass.

Hope all the pains are resolved - doesn't sound like much fun, Desley, MT, Lynne.

We had dinner with friends at the dining room for the second time since March, and we're all using masks except when actually eating. Have had one case of a staff person bringing covid in to a resident in Independent Living, but no reports yet of anything but quarantining for it. They are testing the whole staff - and any independent contractors for care aides - weekly.

And I got my indoor warm therapy pool back - until the country decides to yank it again if virus cases go up - which was marvelous.

Stay safe. This is far from over.

The election stress is dropping daily, though there is still a lot of thrashing about in Washington, and the aftermath won't be pretty.

One more day in ‘pokey’ Then I can go somewhere. I don’t know if it’s a symptom of being cooped up but I’m not desperate to go anywhere. I’ve got food, the weather is awful so I’m quite happy being home. Even the dog is happy and he hasn’t been for a walk for two weeks.
The garden however is something else. He’s worn a racetrack in the (ex) lawn. When it rained yesterday we had a new water feature - a mud filled trench.

Wet and windy again today, it did dry up a bit at lunch yesterday so I went for a quick walk. After my Sunday chores, I'm tempted to do a bit of work as I feel behind, and start work on my 2021 book challenge

Glad you have coped with your quarantine Lynne, not surprised you are fine staying in with the weather, but surprised the dog is OK with it!

Dobies don’t like getting wet or cold. That’s why they didn’t get more use as police dogs. They are brave and too intelligent to enjoy hanging about in the cold and wet. They’ve got a single coat so feel the cold easily. He knows when it’s raining and doesn’t even want to go out for a wee. He’s very clean though - he’s never ever had an accident in the house. He just waits. His plumbing is certainly better than mine 😀

This one's not your fight. The world will go on somehow without you. You can't drive there, and you can't do much if someone took you. You are not superhuman (although you do play one rather well on TV). Take it easy, or your surgeons will be very unhappy with you.

Yeh ... probably can't do much about Mum. By the time I can get there the carers who are isolating at the moment will be able to return ... although one has a positive test and the other has a negative test but all the symptoms ... so probably positive. Can't get the leg comfortable this morning. I binned the afternoon pain relief over the weekend so I could have a glass of wine with dinner. Back on the wagon now so it'll probably hurt less tomorrow. It's taking for fucking ever this. I still can't sleep more than an hour and a half, tops, at a stretch and wake up at least six times a night. I am so ... bloody ... tired.

Nothing much to say today, that much on my to do list I keep looking at it wondering where to start! I had a belated birthday present under my desk waiting for me, and a colleague brought in cake. Picked up a click and collect order from Pets at Home for 2 of the neighbours, and nipped into B & M to get a present for the Mission Christmas appeal.

I’m another one recommending you don’t do too much too soon and undo the surgery MT. Sorry that you are suffering from having a drink and do hope it settles soon so you can get some sleep, the world always seems so much harder on little sleep. Nice to see you Stuart

Can you not take the heavy-duty stuff just at night? Or does it still make you too groggy (etc.) the next day? Did they warn you about this particular kind of torture? It's almost impossible to realize how devastating sleep deprivation will be.

I’ve just seen France Info that says their bars cafés and restaurants are likely to remain closed till at least January 15th. Our newspapers in the U.K. seem to be telling the story it’s only us being locked down. There will be so many businesses never reopening after this.

I’m sure it’s to do with reading books as opposed to looking on line. Years ago we read all l sorts of books encyclopaedias etc. Now you don’t gave to remember a thing just keep looking it up on line.
Had to drive to the garage this morning. It was the first time I’ve driven since August, I needed lights and wipers and I had to think hard which switches to use. Husband warned me my brakes might be rusty - not only the brakes obviously.

Afternoon, the funeral is over now, it felt very flat, between limited people there and a non religious service, so no proper eulogy, just one of her friends saying a few words. Plus the fact you can't sit next to anyone (unless they are in your bubble), no hugging, having to wear a mask all the time, no wake after (we did get a butty on the way home, my mum used to have a butty van, so we went and got one from her rival, which I thought was a nice touch). My neighbour has persuaded me to go food shopping, cant say I really want to, would rather crawl back in bed, but suppose it is better than being on my own. Got a lovely bunch of flowers from my brother when I got home.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear you are back in restrictions Alicia, hope they don't last too long. I thought that Jim, the Florentine ones were actually in date till April, I've never seen that, they normally need eating in Nov!

Haven't driven since our last days in New Jersey, in August 2018. Eek! Never planned to have it take so long! I didn't get my driver's license when we moved to California, and now won't be able to do it for a while, and will have to study the whole thing again.

I am not ready to give up driving.

Sorry your mums service was flat. The restrictions have taken such a lot of our usual spontaneous reactions away, a friendly hug or a touch says such a lot and gives comfort. . Virtual hug for Desley.

Alicia does everybody state have different licensing for cars. I assumed it was a national permit like ours. I know French departments can have different rates for issuing the paperwork for registering vehicles, number plates etc but their driving licence is national like ours except they take points off and we add them on for contraventions.

Nope. Every state has its own license - which means I can't drive on my New Jersey license even though it doesn't expire until 2022, and have to take a written test in California before I can get a new one, which means a testing place. I hope they don't require a road test, because we don't have a car!

Conditions are vastly different across this country, but it's more that State's rights are big. I can drive anywhere on a California license IF I live in California. But I can't drive in California on a NJ license after 30 days of living here. I could drive here on the NJ license if I still lived there. Probably because of fees and stuff as much as independence.

Everywhere has some regulations which don't make sense.

I think that there's a lot of grief and grieving been put on hold because of the pandemic. At the start the churches were working out how to have memorial services once things got back to normal. These would allow the 'moving on' and 'closure' that you get from a good funeral.
But frankly it's gone on too long, a cousin of mine died in March, her funeral happened after lockdown. Having a service now might do 'more harm than good'
There was some hope that on All Souls Day we could reach out to those still grieving but of course that got shut down as well

Sometimes the cost of bureaucracy costs more than the income it’s supposed to be collecting. Husband had a tax bill for £1 he paid it.
Hes now got another statement that says they owe him £2.

Well, I feel much more drained and emotional than I expected. Had to ring a colleague first thing over something that came in yesterday, he was asking about yesterday and I ended up crying, think he might have been glad it was a teams call! Looks nice out, but I’ve just noticed on my phone that it is going to drop to 2 at 6! Still can’t get hold of my telephone friend, I really do hope it isn’t because she’s in hospital, and a work friend has left, I do hope things start picking up. No wonder that when me and Lucy went to bed to watch a film that I didn’t want to get back out of it (unfortunately that was before tea, so Lucy wouldn’t let me stay in bed!)

Ooh, a garden room! I’ve heard of the tax man invoicing people for such small amounts it cost more to administer than receive!

It's inevitable that you'll feel fragile, don't beat yourself up about it. It's something we all have to pick our own path through

If it's any consolation you'll find you'll get your Mum back, in your memories, but not as she was in her last weeks but as she was in her prime

Of course. But the regulations are different in each state. Because they don't want to make it the same.

Woke up early again, and then found out one of our shopping centres has closed with immediate effect – I didn’t go in it much, but feel for both the businesses and workers, one of my favourite shops had only closed their second shop last month to focus on that one, which they are now regretting, they are really lovely people so I hope they find an alternative shop soon.
