It’s bad enough planning to go for elected surgery when you’ve got family and commitments without all the rigmarole of isolation etc.
We are going to have to be very careful timing our return as the car needs mot, tax and insurance and getting those ducks in a row at a distance is bad enough. We will have 14 days quarantine when we get home. I know that. We accept that but it does have complications.
I had to jump through verbal hoops yesterday taxing my car. I can’t tax or sorn it online without either the reminder document or the V5. It’s a number in that’s only on those document that you have to fill in or the form won’t work. Both will be at home- but I’m not so I tried on the phone. I have the VIN number and registration of course. They’ve agreed to tax it, she had to ask a supervisor - if I hadn’t I could have had a fine. Who tries to tax another persons car? It can’t be many.

Funnily enough they had loads of questions but thinking back not one was asking for email address 🙄

Sorry you're in pain, Desley. Hope your eye is getting better.
The island will be waiting for you when travel is on the cards again.

Unfortunately not Alicia, I'm subject to our NHS's rules, but grateful they got me in in less than 2 hours. So glad you have a date now MT, I don't understand how the isolation is just for you, surely there is a risk with the others still going out? Glad you hopefully got the car taxed Lynne!

Glad the eye isn't as bad as before Desley. :-)

There’s several large cities in France closing restaurants and bars totally also making masks compulsory in the streets as well as establishments.

I don't know the rules, but that does seem to put a lot of power in the ONE doctor you get to see. Doctors are not replaceable widgets - and not infallible. And getting the same treatment again, when it didn't work very well before, is concerning. I'm used to being able to change when I don't like what I'm getting - it made a huge difference when I changed cardiologists.
Glad they got you in right away, though. That is reassuring.

It's a public service Alicia, so you get to see who is on that day, I haven't seen the same doctor twice. Glad you have confirmation that your car is taxed Lynne

Ah yes ... as you can see.

Not seeing the same doctor twice would be devastating - they're not robots, and each one has different opinions on 'best treatment.' New people are a chore for me - I'd make no progress ever!
Hope they get you better soon.

Ah yes ... as you can see.
..."
HAHAHAHAHA!

Yes, it can be tricky Alicia and I do wonder how many they employ as I never see the same ones! On the other ward, where I have to go for checkups, there are normally 3 on. Sorry the weather isn't great there Lynne.

Cheers

stick with it, you've got us to moan at :-)

You should be fine, and unmolestable, but I thought I was.

Sorry that you have eye problems again Desley and I hope that the steroid drops sort it
We've had a day off from any building work whatsoever today and it has been GLORIOUS. Didn't realise how much noise stresses me out

I'll be interested to read it

I wonder if it stresses people because it can make it more difficult to relax?

I'm so pleased that we seem to have found a reasonably quiet flat here. Touch wood. I had read a lot about noise problems in buildings here. having said that, there seems to be quite stringent noise laws that are actually enforced.
Holiday here today, which is nice as its also Canadian Thanksgiving.
No, we won't be having turkey and all the trimmings.
Dave is gonna make shakshuka for dinner.

So the first day of purdah begins ... today

Sorry. Cat.
I will be mostly sitting about on my arse (went for a walk yesterday so spoon recovery is required this morning).
Morning all!
Cheers

Intrigued, though I'm in the wrong country for it to be helpful.
How can we support you? This is a big deal - and then you will be past it. Time flies.

Likewise, instead of staying down there in a hotel, or maybe with friends, and enjoying a weekend looking at the sights and visiting me, McOther and McMini aren't allowed to visit me I don't think.
I also have to attend a pre op session, without using public transport. It's not even like McOther and McMini can bring me down in the car and go look at HMS Belfast or something while I'm in there. Because if they did that, returning home in the car with them would break my isolation and my op would be cancelled.
So I have to drive down there, park in a special designated space and drive home. My car does pretty good mileage on the open road but in town, it guzzles petrol, and it only has a six gallon tank. So I have to take a can of petrol with me so I can top up to get home if I have to ... because the six gallons might not get me there and back. And it's on Saturday, which is good but ... what if there's a demonstration? What if I book a space but something happens and when I get there, they haven't allocated me one. It's Saturdy, there'll be no-one to help if the logistics go tits up but if I go on the Friday, there will be traffic and running out of petrol is pretty much a given. It's so scary.
The other alternative is if the McOthers drive me down there but then they have to sit in the car for hours because if they get out, they break my isolation, although I guess they'd be allowed in the hospital to have a wee because they'll have been isolating with me and be considered pure. I'm way, way more nervous about the logistics of making it to the pre-op appointment and back, not to mention getting to the hospital on the morning, than I am about having the ends sawn off my femur and ... the other one!
Crazy innit?
Cheers

Glad you had a bit of a reprieve from the noise R! Nice to hear from you Patti. Urgh MT, those logistics sound awful, my neighbour is waiting for her back surgery, so I’m going to end up in a similar position, as I’m obviously going to have to drive her – suspect when she gets her date I’ll have to speak to my boss, as I won’t be allowed in the office as I have to drive her – guessing no one else will be able to, as I’m in a support bubble so classed as the same household. Don’t think we can visit her either.

Logistics are a pain during a pandemic. Heck, everything is a pain during a pandemic.
The precautions don't seem exaggerated, but they are supremely inconvenient. They should let you stay overnight or something. You can't possibly be the only one with the problem!

How do you deal with it?
I keep little orange sponge earplugs everywhere - the least expensive way to buy them was in a box of 200 packages!
Noise is relentless - they might as well pound on your head with a sledgehammer. I'm with you. Our new apartment overlooks the front entrance, and it's where all the fire engines and ambulances park. They don't use the sirens here, but we can hear the diesel engines at all hours. Took a while to ignore them most of the time.

Although at the moment we can hear every word they say in the kitchen as they have removed so much of the walls and ceiling. I look forward to telling them that!!

Be thankful they haven’t got a dog!

We often get an email from Amazon that our package has been delivered BEFORE, sometimes hours before, the Front Desk calls to tell us we have a delivery.
Freaked me out the first couple of times, too.

I’ve never had it quite so early Alicia, although the other Sunday, it was one stop away for ages, and then the pin disappeared off the map! More coming today (yesterday said Fri, now they’ve decided to come today. I’m not complaining, just grateful I actually will be in for it, Amazon make it hard to plan!). Oh dear Lynne, hope OH didn’t injure himself. Pastry sounds divine!

I'm so sorry, Desley.
That must be stressful for everyone. Not being able to help is the pits.

Bless you. I can imagine.

Oh dear Lynne, glad the drive was worth it though.

Great - attitude helps a lot. Rehab may hurt some (okay - I have no idea, but rehab for spinal surgery did), but you'll be so happy soon after, and not have pain when you go out and look for warlord graves with your metal detector!
