I'm so glad she's home. A hospital admission right now is scary, even when it's necessary.

It is horrid that she had to wait all afternoon. You'd think the medical personnel would be more empathetic as it definitely affects their results.

This has been VERY hard on people in our higher levels of care. The main reason we moved here was that it was easy for people separated from their spouse to still be part of the community even if one were in Memory Support - and now we don't have that.

We just lost someone from our floor, and her husband is already in Assisted Living. Sweet lady.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Bought an air fryer last night, advantage of ordering from Argos is I can collect from the Sainsbury’s round the corner, although can’t carry that and my lunch, so means going out twice. Not as sunny as forecast but feels very humid. Finally got round to filling my holiday form in, I’m having a day off this month and 2 for my birthday, I thought I had 11 left after that, but it turns out I have 12 to take before the end of March. Better speak to HR about selling or carrying over I think!

It was nice Jim, she is better than me, I’m currently not speaking to one of my friends. Glad your mum is fine after her fall MT. I thought carers were allowed with patients, surely someone suffering with dementia and unable to answer questions would qualify for that? It is so sad that it is more stressful for both the patient and the family in the circumstances. Sorry to hear someone from your floor has passed Alicia.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Our hospital new procedure for A&E is rigid and not common sense but there we are. Argue and security is called, nice innit.
We had a friend whose teenage son took some drugs and he took him to A&E as he was in a state. He had awful trouble trying to stay close as he was convinced the lad would abscond the minute he wasn’t being watched. He kicked up a fuss and the police came.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Morning all, sun is shining. Think I'll go for a walk early, do a bit of housework, then hopefully sit out and read my book. One of the things I need to do is rearrange things in the kitchen for the new air fryer, and I imagine it'll need rinsing out before first use.

Wow, getting the police seems extreme seeing as he is trying to help the A & E Staff!!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments The hospital paediatric dept notice board had about 10 signs up warning about abusive behaviour would be not be tolerated. Security would be called etc. I appreciate that no one should be abused while doing their jobs but it was excessive. It almost made me angry seeing one poster.after another and I wasn’t stressed it was only a routine appointment for Harry’s orthopaedic insoles 😁.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Morning all, dry but windy here, will be great for drying my washing, but maybe not for sitting out reading - although that is what my indoor reading spot is for, and the best part about that is Lucy comes to join me. Few bits to do first though, including rearranging the kitchen to get the new air fryer set up.

Lisa Marie Gabriel (lisamariegabriel) | 1066 comments Overcast but pleasant here. I am binge watching Bramwell with a cat beside me on the sofa. She had her eyes cleaned and was not amused but she is very forgiving little soul , bless her. I was hoping to go out for a walk but I ordered a bottle of Canadian Club from Amazon and they are delivering today, ID and signature required. So here we are, stuck in for a while.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Absolutely boiling here ... there is a breeze though, but I am still completely sticky and vile. First did socially distanced church. Then popped up to town for some supplies from the farmers’ market. That was pleasant but you can only do three or four shops before the residue of hand sanitiser on your hands gets like glue. Really embarrassed, I forgot to put my mask on when I went into boots. Did remember after a few seconds though.

Just settling down to do some mindless but thoroughly enjoyable editing on my latest novel.

Morning all ...

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments I hear you Alicia. I've been sleeping really badly recently. It's a right pain.

The cat caught a baby wren this morning. It's the second. I know it's only nature, but he doesn't eat them the way the last one did so I hate it when he gets them because ... it's not nature they're dying for nothing. He got one on Monday and I kept him in for a week, thinking that would give them time to fledge a bit. The trouble is, they have to know to run from a cat so I try to balance short periods of exposure. It's letting him out first thing. As I understood it, birds are a bit dopey at dawn and dusk but these ones seem to be very thick until about 11 am. Kicking myself. I'll keep him in another week. I know they're really ground dwelling birds which doesn't help. We have magpies so the poor little bleeders have enough to put up with already.

Feeling guilty.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments My young blackbirds are a bit dopey. They just scuttle about. One spooked Billy last night when I took him out after tea. I very nearly fell but just recovered my balance. Has your cat got a bell on his collar or does he roam naked?
Thunder and lightning here at the moment. Oh well better get dressed and ready for action. 😁

He currently roams naked. He did have a collar but he got into a habit of removing it, to play with it, and then picking it up in his mouth and bringing it into the house for me to put back on. Until he would forget and leave it somewhere. There are probably several in the undergrowth of our garden. So ... it was a partial success. I do intend to try again though.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Well, yesterday’s plan changed, so I didn’t get the housework finished – my neighbour has been decorating since April and said when finished we would have a little celebration meal – it is only 95% complete, but she decided yesterday we were having our meal, so me and her lodger went to various places to pick up the supplies – note to self, never go to B & M on a Sun pm, the queue was that long I found a part of the shop I’ve never seen before. Got food from one of her favourite pubs (I don’t mind the food, but limited vegi and at one point we were going at least once a month, so I got fed up of eating the same food) and cake from our favourite cake shop, it was really nice to have some different food in someone else’s house and not eating on my own. I was impressed with how they’ve done the takeaway, you still got an option of sides, the vegi option comes with salad and coleslaw and they did that in a separate box so it didn’t go funny and my neighbour wanted some cake for today, I still got asked if we wanted cream/custard/ice cream with it! And it was £3 cheaper per meal. I didn’t eat the jacket potato that came with my tea yesterday, so had that for my lunch today. Would definitely do it again, Ironically we didn’t think they were doing takeaway so had looked at a couple of other places, and one I’ve not been to has an interesting menu, so might get lunch from there at some point. Dry again today, wonder if we’ll get the thunderstorms forecast for most of the week.

I did that last week MT, my mask was under my chin ready to put on, but got partway into Co-op before I realised something didn’t feel right! Hope you got a nap Alicia. Poor baby wren – my neighbours cat is grounded for the same length of time for the same reasoning MT (and her cat has an extra loud bell after catching birds last year – he never did it when he was younger, they normally stop with age, not start!). Lucy doesn’t wear a collar as she also takes it off – I gave up when I’d been upstairs for 10 mins and came down to find her without it – I found it months later, she’d tucked it between the arm of the settee and the cushion, but right at the back so I didn’t feel it on an initial sweep! Sounds a hard life Lisa!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments I heard some thunder about 11.30 last night, but fine again today, although it was raining when I was driving in. My MD was talking to me this morning, asking how I was finding things, I said I like the mix of working from home and in the office and miss impromptu conversations like this, as yesterday I didn’t have an actual conversation with a colleague all day, and he told me I should utilise teams more as I have a legitimate reason to ring pretty much anyone in the company for my job, so I might take him up on that!

That's an interesting article Jim.

Jim | 21809 comments Yes I thought people might find it interesting
Glad to see that work is moving to meet you

We had a good day so far, massive thunderstorms last night, red hot day today
Lady wife and I went to our local pub for a pub lunch courtesy of the chancellor
It was very pleasant, all very laid back and no fuss or anything. We really enjoyed it

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments HI all. We were supposed to have stormy rain and thunderstorms all day yesterday but they never materialised, in fact although overcast it was rather pleasant. We could hear almost continual thunder rumbles starting in the evening (apparently Edinburgh was getting it) and there are still huge but distant rumbles going on now. We'll see what the day brings - currently the sin is shining through the haar :)
Glad you enjoyed your meal out Jim, we won't be doing that for a while!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Apparently we had thunder and lightning last night, I slept through it! Was 26 by 11am, luckily my house feels fairly cool and at least working from home I can have an ice cream if I want. Feel sorry for my Amazon delivery man, neighbour and friend added a load of stuff to my subscribe and save, so there are about 20 items coming between today and Monday (they’ve clearly had to stagger them because of the quantity!) – that is between 5 people though. One of the parcels has been sent by Hermes, unfortunately one of the boxes of Felix has been damaged, so have to deal with Amazon’s return centre. Annoyingly I was planning on going in the office Fri and Mon, might have to do different days next week. One of the local boroughs is getting high again, fingers crossed they come down as there is talk of putting all 10 boroughs in a Leicester style lockdown.

Glad you had a nice meal out Jim

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Wow, got up to 29 yesterday, I can cope with the heat and even I found it hard! Still slept under the winter duvet all night though. Only supposed to get to 23 today, but very humid. Can’t decide whether to go to the co-op after work today, or call in on my way home tomorrow. Face mask wise I’d rather do it all in one day, but as well as shopping tomorrow, I’m distributing friend’s Amazon shopping (handily the ones that I needed the car to deliver arrived yesterday, as I’m in the office tomorrow so can drop off after shopping, drive kind of past both houses). Neighbour ungrounded her cat on Tue, went to find Lucy last night, and saw he was acting strange, had to stop him playing with a bird, this one was definitely dead, so cat is now grounded again.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I can’t hardly keep awake this afternoon, it’s so humid and overcast. Between thé lightning last night, next door’s security light going off and on and cars stopping to take photos of the lightning over the water. Billy had a good bark at someone too, but that could have been his own reflection - he’s not the brightest dog in the world. We had the blackout curtains open for once to let any air in from the windows but it was a steady 27° in our bedroom even with a fan on.

Jim | 21809 comments Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) wrote: "I think I was too late! Unless you're talking to yourself Jim :)"

standard state of affairs :-)
We got a quote to upgrade our broadband under the universal service obligation.
According to openreach between £70,000 and £100,000
I pointed out to the engineer I could buy a terraced house in town to use as an office for that and get better broadband thrown in

They are going to work out a written quote. That will at least let us know where on earth they're taking the cable from, I suspect we'll be fed direct from GCHQ for the price they're quoting
Given we live barely three miles from the exchange I was somewhat surprised by the amount they wanted us to pay.

message 14131: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments You'll get better, cheaper service sooner from a satellite. That's outrageous!

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments You've not got a B4RN type initiative near you Jim? https://b4rn.org.uk/

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Afternoon all, had a hectic morning. My hour long meeting was late and then ended up being nearly 2 hours, had to keep reminding them of the time as I'd booked the meeting room for a different meeting after that one, but they'd decided they didn't need it! So not quite got through everything yet, hoping to before I go home. Food shopping and dropping deliveries off this pm, as long as my tyre stays up enough, a colleague lent me a thing to pump it up but it runs off a cigarette lighter which my car doesn't have. Forgot to mention that our postie yesterday was our old receptionist’s hubby, so I asked him to pass my mobile number on, and she text me yesterday, was nice to hear from her, fingers crossed she gets a job.

That is a ridiculous amount Jim, especially if you live so close to the exchange.

Jim | 21809 comments Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) wrote: "You've not got a B4RN type initiative near you Jim? https://b4rn.org.uk/"

The problem is that there are only three houses/farms to connect. At the absolute outside, seven households, and two or three of them probably wouldn't be interested because they do stuff on the phone (which we don't get either in the house)
So perhaps three households

I've checked with B4RN, they have nothing remotely in our area but I've emailed them anyway. Our issue is that 'the community' has got fibre, we're the outliers

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Morning all, nice day today, so taking advantage and washing the bedding. Got quite a bit of housework to do, but need to nip to the cheap shop for toothpaste, and feel like nipping in the charity shops while I'm out, first time I've felt like mooching for months.

good luck sorting it out Jim. What did you go for Patti, I keep debating a laptop, especially now my phone is refusing to post on GR. Sorry that your plans to go to Spain aren't going well, fingers crossed things are clearer next week.

Cooler here, and overcast and ... well ... still dark, frankly. We have just had to cancel our holiday in France. Now I have to ring up the restaurants and unbook. Hmm... that'll keep me busy.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning, each. Remember me? I've been popping in to see how you've all been getting on but I'm furiously knitting at the moment. A friend on Facebook posted a link to a charity for children with life-limiting illnesses - have I said this before? So I've been making little 'pocket pets' to send with a card to the children listed on the website. Some have siblings in the age-range too (3 - 16) so it's nice to include on for them. Bulk pack of children-type blank cards and I'm off!

Hope you're all staying safe and ignoring the nay-sayers who think it's all over. xx

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments We are in a state of flux. Well I think that’s what he said 😀 about going to France. Somebody has to go to the house. We can’t leave it for a year and beg favours from neighbours. They are lovely kind and very helpful but i don’t want to take advantage of them.
So we might go sooner rather than later than when we booked and risk it.
As usual the dog complicates quarantine but I think if France doesn’t reciprocate (retaliate ) and we stay for a few weeks then we could do the quarantine in the U.K. when home if it’s still in force. It’s the not knowing that’s bothering me , I can give food etc to daughter. It’s like Mombasa here again for humidity. Thick grey overcast and warm with occasional showers.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments McOther is approaching the subject of getting away on holiday like a game of Prison Break. Except it's, how do we get to Europe without going to France because McMini would miss the first two weeks of school while we were isolating afterwards and he doesn't want to.

I've given up. I'll wait for McOther to sort something (or himself) out. I want to go away too but I hate it when its on and off like a particularly busy tart's knickers. Also don't want to expose us to recycled/piped air, like the windowless cabin of a ferry or an aeroplane.

It looks as if we'll be going to Germany on the ferry now - day sailing so we can stay on deck. I'll keep y'all posted.

Luckily I haven't cancelled the cat's booking in kennels.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I wasn't too concerned about being on the flights getting here, Mary. I could tell they had upped the recycling of the air big time. Not for the passengers safety, but the crew, I'm sure.
Three long haul flights plus one domestic. We made it through.
Typical grey Welsh weather here. I was actually thinking last week that I maybe could live here long term.
No, I really can't.

I got an HP, Desley. Our Geoffy has always recommended them and my mate in Myanmar told me exactly which model I should get. That one wasn't in stock, so I went down one to get next day delivery. It's cheap and cheerful but does all I need it to do and does a lot more than an Ipad.
Also, I'm fed up with apple's built in obsolescence. Not gonna give them any more of my money.
My phone works just fine as a tablet.

It's nice getting on the group again, I must say.
