Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Afternoon all, stuck indoors again because it's so windy.
Managed to survive the trip north to see husband's consultant.
As he thought, there is further deterioration so more drugs have been prescribed which will hopefully calm the inflammation. On the down side he also apparently now has two cataracts developing, possibly due to the drug treatments given in the past. It'll be a toss up whether they will be worth replacing, given the state of the back of his eyes :( This year is really not turning out to be one of our best.

So sorry to hear. But glad you have expert advice, and could see your doctors.

Hope the too-short grows out soon - I hate when they do that. I had to spend my entire honeymoon trying to keep the hair out of my face that he cut so short I couldn't tie it back. And I TOLD him not to. At least your haircut will last longer!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments My sister had a cataract op recently and she has glaucoma so she’s been seen in the NHS and a private specialist recently. She was due an appointment and had a consultation last week. On the phone! Not FaceTime just the house land line. What that achieved is anyone’s guess. Sorry to hear your husbands eyes aren’t improving it’s really sad to think he can’t see your lovely paintings.
Filthy weather here, torrential rain and wind.
Thanks for that link Desley. I think I’d better take the mask off or I’ll have a nosebag full of spiky little hairs.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Wet and windy today. One of my colleagues has been asked to move into one of our other wings, so that is going to be strange – before Covid there was 4 of us at the bank of desks, now there will be 2, so the dynamics will change again. Am really hoping that is the last of the changes, there has been so many since March. Spoke to the doctor, they haven’t prescribed the new medication yet, so have a telephone consultation on Wed before he does, as I don’t even know if I am supposed to have a break between my current one and the new one.

Hmm, that doesn't seem a helpful app to me Lynne.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning! Sunny but windy here. Our flower group in the village, who, of course, haven't met since mid March, are having a get-together in our leader's large garden this afternoon. Chance for a cuppa and and gossip. She suggested that if the weather's bad we can go in her conservatory. I emailed to say I'm not yet ready to go in anyone else's house and sit so close together with five other people. Her conservatory is 2x3 metres so I would only feel happy with one other person in there! The compromise is sitting under the car port which is technically still outdoors. Still just the size of a car, though. It's difficult being polite. I hope it stays fine or I may well just come home and be Mrs Awkward. Mind you, I've got medals for that! I have no intention of trashing four months of isolation. We are all being careful but we all go shopping which is the weak link.

Right, that's off me chest! Have a good day, all.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I feel a bit like that with going to the hairdressers. Vanity may be the death of me.
Yesterday daughter and I were talking on the phone about them going to the beach and I told her there’s were weaver fish on Newgate - had little lad got some swim shoes. She said he’d outgrown them. Guess what advert popped up for me today. I didn’t google them or think about them after our conversation. at least someone’s listening to me. 😀

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Keeps trying to rain here, washed my hair this morning and really don’t like the layers she put in, might actually have to style my hair for a while. Boss rang me this morning, we are using one of my ex colleagues on a 3 month consultancy basis – doubtful I’ll see him, but kind of hoping I do, it is getting more like the old days at the moment, we’ve brought an estimator out of retirement too!

Good luck Kath, don’t blame you for not wanting to wipe out the good work you have done. I'm still not ready to go for meals or anything yet.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Afternoon all, after a horrendous rainy day yesterday we have the hoolie back today. Hope to hear if I might get back into my beach hut for August, would be so good to get back. Fingers crossed!

I'm not going to the hairdresser anytime soon, I've found out I can do it quite well myself with a beard trimmer and some thinning scissors. Not so keen on the natural highlights though ;)

Keep telling yourself: there is no vaccine. There is no cure. There is limited treatment. And covid-19 can really hurt, even if you survive.

That should be the test for whether you're going to put yourself at risk for anything or anyone. Not even close family is going to see us for now.

Stay safe. Don't transfer the virus to yourself in the event it might be on your hands, clothing, or mask from somewhere. That's how we outsmart it.

But it can be made safe if people will make the commitment and the effort.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Woke up an hour and a half before the alarm today and didn’t really get back to sleep! Doc rang, so I feel a bit happier at trying the new medication now, I got the nice lady doctor who wasn’t rushing you. Chemist have said to wait till after 2pm tomorrow before I collect it though.

Fingers crossed you can get back to your beach hut R

Lisa Marie Gabriel (lisamariegabriel) | 1066 comments Good morning. I haven't been here for a while, not just this group but anywhere. I had unconfirmed (but the doctor thinks it was) COVID in March that left me with serious blood pressure problems and balancing my meds was almost impossible so I didn't have much energy to do anything online or off. Gradually things are returning to normal. Yesterday was a laugh. I replaced an energy saving bulb that flashed twice and died so, thinking it was possibly a case of dodgy wiring, we got British Gas to come. Turns out it was a faulty starter on the bulb. The engineer didn't mind. Fortunate, because British Gas provided the bulbs! Have a lovely day everyone.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Impressively only woke up 10 mins before the alarm today. Been doing a boring job this morning though. Was raining this morning, but now drying up and feels rather humid, so not looking forward to wearing my face mask to go to the chemist.
Also need to post my key for the cleaner and do some tidying up.

Sorry to hear you have been left with Covid side effects Lisa.

message 14065: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Marie Gabriel (lisamariegabriel) | 1066 comments Thanks Desley. I am doing OK. Basically, what happened is I got the regular symptoms, nasty dry cough, loss of smell and taste, slight fever, and I got better in about two weeks. Then I started having dizzy spells and feeling too tired to do anything. My blood pressure was dangerously low. I usually have moderate and well controlled hypertension, now it was too well controlled. Doctor took me off meds for a week and I had to take half a pill if it went high. I had to cut that to a quarter. Then he put me on half the usual dose, still too much. This is because COVID targets ACE receptors. So it has been a gradual process. Quarter dose on alternate days, then half dose on alternate days etc. Now I am fairly steady on the half dose with just occasional woozy days. Fun, fun, fun! :D Otherwise no harm done except that lockdown has made me fatter. I hope to do a bit of gardening this afternoon. Have a great afternoon Desley.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Lisa wrote: "My blood pressure was dangerously low. I usually have moderate and well controlled hypertension, now it was too well controlled...."

I didn't know that about covid-19 - that it could make your BP and your meds not work together because of the ACE receptors. I will tell the spouse - he's the one on all the BP meds. I'll remember this, and watch it closely, if he gets the virus.

That must have been so scary for you. I'm so glad that you're better.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Beautiful day here, pizza and a beer in the garden day,
I had my haircut yesterday, I was brave but I did nearly chicken out. The hairdressers were really careful and all precautions taken. It was too late to say not too short as she’d cut one side while we were talking so it’s really really short.
Short thick and spiky (just like me). 😁

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Hmm, one of our clients asked me to confirm something, which I did, and when he thanked me, he called me David!! Not sure who he thought he was talking to! Mind you, the other week he got the day of the week wrong. Went to the chemist last night, nearly didn’t get the new anti-inflams mind, she gave me a package and I questioned what was in it, so had to make her go back for the one that’s been waiting 2 weeks!! But bless her, she complimented my hair! Only two colleagues have noticed today, despite seeing 7 that haven’t seen my hair yet – and one I did see on Tue, but he must have been distracted. I do like the new meds though, I took one last night about 7pm, by bed time I could practically lie on my back for the first time in weeks, and pretty much pain free today (and not taken today’s yet). Fingers crossed I don’t get any side effects. Warm today, I have foolishly decided to go food shopping after work, might change my mind depending on how I find the face mask situation. We aren’t allowed to go in people’s houses again, which is a shame as it is a friends’ birthday tomorrow and I was going to go round after tea

That’s quite interesting Lisa, I have low blood pressure and a few times have had dizziness issues when I’ve had a virus – I had something over Christmas that meant sitting on the sofa sometimes was a bit interesting!! Glad you had a haircut and you also got shorter than expected.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Well, ended up going to 4 shops for 5 people yesterday, my brain was frazzled by the end of it! And of course I did pick a hot day to do that. Luckily my neighbour gave me some tea so I didn't have to cook after that. Anti-inflams were that good I forgot to take the second dose on time, so did suffer a bit about 8.30, but it was nice to shop without pain. It's still a bit twingy sitting with the girls but such a massive improvement. Raining today, was supposed to be going to a friends for a drink after tea, but now we aren't allowed in people's houses, so will just give her her present and have a chat from a distance.

Glad your pain level is being helped - that's always such a relief. And the neighbour providing tea is lovely.

It's hot in California by midday, and doesn't cool until the sun goes down, but mornings you can still do something outside without melting. Not much humidity, so the sun governs.

They are going to let us use the outdoor pool now, for very limited times, and only a half-hour at once, but I was afraid we wouldn't get ANY outside pool time, so it will be nice. We practically spent last summer in the pool - won't get to this year unless a vaccine is happening very soon.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Glad you’re going to get outside again Alicia, Lynn I almost envy you the fog, Desley, that sounds like a busy day.

Went for a walk on the Downs yesterday which was lovely. It was that or try to persuade the lads to swim in the sea!

Looks like another good day here.

Morning all!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Morning all, another Saturday spent mainly chatting to people, could get used to that! Raining at the moment, but only supposed to rain till lunch, so might get my bedding washed. Couple of other bits to do but not much so will hopefully finish my book, only got an hour left in it.

Glad you will be able to use the outdoor pool again Alicia.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Get one of those pill boxes with days or week put in. Better safe than sorry - Lisa. My lovely daughter actually took one of the dogs heart tablets a few days ago in a distracted moment.

message 14078: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Marie Gabriel (lisamariegabriel) | 1066 comments I love the fog Lynne, it's been quite hot for the most part in balmy Lincolnshire. I have to watch the pumpkin squashes and tomatoes in case they wilt but the courgettes are growing up to small marrow size in the garden. I don't much like courgettes from the shops, too watery and bitter, but these are delicious. I am now a convert! I planted them in the pumpkin patch by mistake but they don't seem to care. The pears are doing great, I froze a load of plums yesterday and I have some celery seedlings coming along nicely. To be honest, I do prefer cooler weather but there's a lot needs doing indoors. :)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Lynne (Tigger's Mum) wrote: "Get one of those pill boxes with days or week put in. Better safe than sorry - Lisa. My lovely daughter actually took one of the dogs heart tablets a few days ago in a distracted moment."

I have one of those, that is one of my Sunday tasks, making it up for the week - I find I'm less likely to run out of meds by using it (apart from recently when I know I need to order, but forget to do it!). My new anti-inflams make me feel a bit tired about half an hour after taking them, so rather than bringing them forward to include in my morning meds, I'm going to add them to the bedtime meds instead.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Every single night we have the ‘did I take my tablet or not ‘ from the other half. Eye roll moment for me. It’s like ground hog day with him and the dog. They really are creatures of habit.
Every day he asks what’s for lunch, I keep threatening to get a blackboard in the kitchen and chalk up the menu choices. Anyway I run through the options. I usually tell him ‘same as yesterday’s choices but one less for the meal you ate’.
I can do ground hog day too.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Was raining when I got up this morning, so didn’t peg my washing out, and now it is lovely! Ironically there are less people in my wing today than there were on Fri, which seems crazy! I like Tue and Fri, but miss some of the colleagues who only come in Mon and Wed, so think I’ll alternate between those two, unless someone needs me on a particular day.

Maybe you should get OH a pill box Lynne!

message 14082: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Marie Gabriel (lisamariegabriel) | 1066 comments @Lynne and Desley. My mum had one of those but it disappeared when we were cleaning out her flat after she passed away. It could be a useful thing to invest in :D Well, today was our first trip into town on a bus since March 2nd. It was weird and very peoply but quite exciting (in a sad sort of way). I managed to play juggle the pennies with the banks and it did seem odd how they let us in, literally one at a time. We also bought some extra cat food for the visiting moggy and resident hedgehog family. Wilkos has some good offers on Felix. Then back on the bus! It's all good! Have a lovely day everyone.

It’s on at the moment but very unstable. Daren’t start anything serious in case it drops out again. western power were on it within minutes after my neighbour phoned it in. It s raining and blowing hard and my neighbours the other side have power but they are having windows replaced. Not a good start to the day all in all.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Raining again today. Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Was sat minding my own business last night when I heard an odd cat noise, didn’t sound like my neighbours cat, so went to investigate. Turns out it was my neighbours cat playing with a bird, I managed to distract him and picked him up, and got him in, but when I turned round, it had flown off, we couldn’t find it, so must have been OK. Went to make my coffee earlier to see my neighbour stood outside holding something, was a very similar bird to what he’d found last night, but that also managed to fly away. Went to double check on my lunch break before letting Lucy out and the poor thing was huddled on the street, so have had to get it in a cat carrier and my neighbour is taking it to her vet, might be injured as it hasn’t moved much in an hour. Wouldn’t mind but he has an extra large bell on his collar – he never used to hunt, but the past couple of years he’s been a nightmare. Dull and gloomy here, and rather windy.

Hope the podcast went well MT

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments There was a really big square tabby cat with no tail in our garden bird hunting, the other morning. I looked out of the bedroom window and It vanished I’m sure it had tufted ears too. Just hope Billy never sees it, as he’s such a goof he’d probably think it was play time. It looked quite mean and as I said it was big.
The power men are still working hard. There’s now 4 vans a lorry and a digger and it’s pouring with rain and strong winds. They look soaked. They’ve come up the road as far as next door and are now digging the pavement up there. We’ve got power at the moment but they’ve warned us it’s going to be on and off again.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Poor bird didn’t make it. Had a surprise yesterday, the postie (who isn’t one of our usual two) had to knock on as I had a parcel that wouldn’t fit through, he’s our receptionist’s husband, she had been asking him to say help, but he felt awkward, but had a reason to today. I’m quite touched she wanted him to say hello to me. In the office today, rather quiet, but I did come in to some face masks on my desk from the cleaner – very thick material though. Am going to do the food shopping on the way home, take advantage of being out in the car.

I think we only have wild cats in Scotland now Lynne. Fingers crossed Billy doesn’t see it.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments The power people were really good, they were still working well after midnight. They had to replace the main cable from neighbours right to the main box on the end of the road. Holes everywhere but it’s done. It’s horrible weather here. Raining again but not cold. I’m glad I’m not on holiday here in a tent.
I think that cat is a proper Manx cat. They are quite chunky. I looked at the Scottish cats but I don’t really think it was a wild cat. I’d love a camera to see exactly what visits the garden at night.
If your mum’s hospital is doing the same as ours, Mary, no one can accompany an emergency. I know they don’t want a family outing in A&E but last week when husband went an elderly lady was brought in after a fall and they wouldn’t let her granddaughter go in with her. She was also suffering with dementia and not capable of answering their questions but the granddaughter had to insist they took her phone number and the doctor to phone her to be told what happened. She had to go and wait in the car park for the call,

Everything that's happening is a nightmare for patients with dementia - masks, people covered head to foot, the dangers, the isolation. A 'normal' hospital visit is very hard for them, and many do not recover properly from the experience, even when they heal. Poor lady.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I agree Alicia, I’ve got friends with the husband in a nursing home who she hasn’t seen since March, he keeps asking to go ‘home’ but he no longer recognises her. . It’s very distressing. But it was anyone in A& E. Children too, that’s one of the reasons my daughter was extra cautious about her son returning to school as she didn’t want him getting a croup attack and having to just take him to hospital and not be allowed to be with him while he was treated. I really can’t see that protocol is helpful to either patients or medical staff.
That heatwave predicted in the paper’s for today has arrived here in the form of thick fog and drizzle.

Pretty much what happened with Mum. I rang at six to find out how she was. The woman sounded a bit brusque and said, 'no-one's even seen her yet.' It took me a while to realise that she was angry about that rather than at me. Mum was on her way home less than an hour later. She was pretty perky and having a good day. I don't think she has Alzheimer's so it's memory only but she had days when she gets very strident and insists black is white. When she's like that, I know she's just scared so I agree with her.

Lovely weather here. I'm going to pot up my cut and come again lettuces and then spend the day sitting in the sun reading or writing. Really looking forward to a lovely slow day. Now I've said that, just wait for something to go wrong! Mwahahahahrgh!
