Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I’m having trouble with the logistics of some of the proposals. My friend who has a lot of serious medical issues goes upstairs while her help cleans downstairs and vice versa.
The quarantine of incoming travellers is a good one. Certain occupations are exempt, seasonal pickers were mentioned. Lorry drivers were also exempt but I know the long distance international ones have been really well organised at the delivery points and en route special areas are provided so they can keep safe.
But if an international tourist or business traveller arrives and self quarantines how. do they get from the airport/ tunnel / train station etc without using public transport or if in their own car services like toilets and buying food. Also if a person comes home to an empty house surely they would need to buy food if only until a delivery can be organised. I must be overthinking it but I get the feeling someone is not actually thinking logically or logistically

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Will obviously furloughed his proof reader. Tie your tunnel down well, Will, it’s blowing a hooley here. My spell checker changed that to bowing a jokey - so you should get it later. I wish I could speak spellchecker.
My dyslexic relation told me he’d been ‘fear load’. I love that kid.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments We've got 50mph+ here at the moment. Never good when everything is in full leaf. The house is actually shaking (two foot thick stone walls) So I've decided to forego the walk today :)

Talking of quarantining, apparently our new neighbours are moving in tomorrow. A retired couple who have sold their new £1million Cala effort along the road earlier in the year and also have a place in Spain, which is where they were when they phoned to introduce themselves on Wednesday. Not sure how they're getting here. Quite why they picked a wee flat that belonged to a 90year old lady who had done little in the way of modernisation I'm not sure. Although we got the impression they haven't actually been here to see it. I do hope they understand that I will not be talking to them other than through the door for the next two weeks - I haven't spent the last two months plus protecting my husband by barely going out to have them ruin it all at this stage. I may have to take up my Irish dancing sooner than expected. We're upstairs :)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Hello everyone, haven’t been in for a while. Sussex run was bitter sweet but mostly good. Then I got rather tied up with trying to rescue a rabbit. Which I succeeded in finally catching yesterday. It’s someone’s pet, has rubbish eyesight (apparently they get glaucoma) and is the most docile, sweet natured creature. In fact, I’d adopt it, myself, if McOther would let me. In any event, I couldn’t leave it.

So glad I got it yesterday as it’s completely throwing it down now and it would be cold and miserable. Plus it had been attacked by another rabbit at least once - one time in front of us. I finally got to stroke it yesterday and it was so desperate for affection. I could just feel it’s little soul yearning for a cuddle. So sad. But hopefully the vets will be able to find out where it escaped from, or at the least re-home it with someone loving.

The weather has been lovely and warm but now it is absolutely throwing it down and a howling gale. I think I will go upstairs and put my longs on ... and some socks! Have to go to M&S. Since it’s bucketing down, now might be a good time.

If you want to read about the rabbit rescue, it’s on the blog https://mtmcguire.co.uk/2020/05/23/bu...

Cheers

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments There’s wild rabbits in the bushes by the old railway bank now part of the coast path. One is pure black so I don’t know if it’s a pet runaway or a colour mutation. I just praise the lord the dog doesn’t see them or I’d be done for. He doesn’t know what a rabbit is - yet!
That’s the sort of situation I mean about these quarantine regulations. The french have imposed a tit for tat political quarantine on any country that has one that stops french travellers entering. The joke is France doesn’t have a quarantine - just effectively closed borders as you are extremely restricted in who can enter. A quarantine by any other name. We could go to France if was our principal home but not a second home. It’s not infection control any more just control.

If the person is a business traveller, the company they're dealing with can worry about logistics so they aren't an issue.
I honestly cannot envisage any 'tourists' at the moment if only because there is nothing to see.
Indeed explaining the details could be part of filling in the application form

Yeh, I wondered that at first but this one was definitely tame, extremely tame. :-) Most of the people who passed us on the path reckoned it had been dumped. I so hope not because if it is, it'll be given back and dumped again somewhere else where I can't save it.

It's more a case of what is the tourist going to see?
Even the public toilets aren't open in some areas

Actually that's true ... the loo thing ... tourism for us is about sites of interest, it's true but if they're closed, countryside/beaches of interest and eating are a good substitute.

I agree, but I'm not sure it would be enough to attract a foreign visitor.
Admittedly the Swiss might still come for the beaches :-)

Many places here are restricting the beaches to locals.

We're all waiting for the scientists to fix things; I have no idea what all these governments think is going to stop the virus before that - magical thinking? It's out there, just waiting for the careless.

And that's where Dave and I are. Soonest we can get out of here is end of June cuz there's no way we're leaving without our final salary.
We're hoping there'll be flight options into cardiff so we can avoid the drive from London. Dunno about car hire. No way I'm getting on a bus.
Alternately, we may fly straight to Spain but that'll be bloody expensive as it'd have to be staying in a hotel as we don't know how quickly we'd be able to rent an apartment. Spain seems to be opening up a bit now, anyway, so a bit of good news.
If we go to Barry, I'm sure our lovely neighbour will help us with food, etc. Hopefully supermarket deliveries are working better now, too.
it's all quite shit at the moment.

Jim | 21810 comments Patti (baconater) wrote: "it's all quite shit at the moment.

Interesting times Patti
I suspect that by the time you actually do have to travel things could be different again.
Either there will be proper channels of movement set up, or everybody will be standing about looking embarrassed because the virus has just burned out :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Morning all, wet and windy, hope it settles down. Neighbour asked me to go to M & S for her yesterday, said yes as i was curious, Sat wasn't a good day to puck though. Food selection wasn't as good as the old one, but i treated myself to a few things, but then had to call at a different Aldi to get the Jerseys she wanted, they had some stuff I couldn't get on Tue, so at least I have some more proper food. If the weather improves, will hopefully go for a walk with a friend.

Do hope things are easier when you need to travel next month Patti and hope your concentration improves. I like the idea of the virus burning out Jim!

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Morning all, less windy here today but still no rain so I had to water my garden pots (and inspect all the damage) this morning.

Lucky I did it early because the new neighbours turned up at eight. She has wandered around for a couple of hours wearing a pair of Marigolds, not sure if she's cleaning, warding off the virus or channelling Margot Leadbetter (I suspect the latter). They've just left again in their 'his and hers' BMWs although there was a very loud scraping noise and when I looked out he had reversed over a large flowerpot whilst trying to do a three point turn.
I am going to get hours of amusement from this I can tell.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments I feel I should point out that under normal circumstances I would not only be speaking to them I would be making them coffee and bacon rolls!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Good luck with the new neighbours R, shame you can't do your normal welcome

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Felt very low yesterday. Dad died a year ago today. I had not expected to feel sad, more, blessed but there’s a thing in church where you do prayers for people on the first year’s anniversary of their death and with Dad ... we couldn’t. I think it’s that, along with that the man Dad was is coming to the fore as the memories of the Alzheimer’s ravaged soul fade ... At the time he died, it was a mercy and he was in a state of grace I think. It was a beautiful and good death and there was nothing to mourn in many ways, which means I did less crying, which might be why I did more yesterday.

It’s a funny old thing, grief isn’t it. I genuinely feel better today, so I’m fairly certain it was the prayers thing that got me.

Cheers

MTM

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Chin up Mary, it does get better I promise x

Update on neighbours - her car is actually a Lexus but I suspect he's not allowed to drive it (took him five goes to reverse into the garden this morning) They disappeared overnight, no idea where, it is very hard working on such poor info :D He's a bit of a poor wee thing, it's clear who is in charge!
I left them a card and a bottle of wine at their door to explain why we were not rushing out to greet them. I need to hang my washing out but they're messing around in the stairs so much I'm going to have to time it when it's quiet

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Morning all, got woken up by my knee, not sure why it is more painful after a couple of lazy days, although my magnet had come off, so hopefully replacing that will help. Lovely weather all week, so looking forward to seeing how many books I can read.

Sorry to hear you were low yesterday MT, first anniversaries are always the hardest. Nice of you to give neighbours a welcome present.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Thats what I mean about this quarantine rule. It’s not logical as Rosemary’s neighbours would come under this if they’d travelled from Spain in June but not this month. Drivers like that worry me but has he driven all the way from Spain in his car?
My daughter’s neighbour is lovely but her parking is something else. If I’ve parked at my daughter’s I leave her the maximum room and I pray i can leave before she gets back to her space.
Nice day here for a day off, might get lunch outside again.

My sister has just made me smile. She had a book prize at school in 1951. She’s moved house countless times and kept this book. This week she got round to reading it for the first time.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Morning all.

He has just driven his wife's Lexus into the gate post trying to reverse into the garden :O

She is not happy

I can't get any work done it's just so exciting looking out the windae

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Just had some sad news, one of our IT people had a fatal heart attack at the end of last week. Can't remember how old he was, not sure if we celebrated his 40th birthday, but sure he has a wife and two young kids.

I bet she isn't happy R, is it a really tight gap?

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments That is very sad Desley.

It is a perfectly normal sized double gate. The guy helping them with their furniture on Sunday reversed a Transit in without barely pausing.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Just found out he was 41, and his daughter is about 9.

Hmm, wonder why he struggles so much then R?

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Latest development is that the car has been abandoned at ninety degrees to the narrowest part of the driveway. If you are familiar with the scene in Austin Powers where our hero attempts to turn the golf buggy in the corridor, well I am expecting that to be recreated later today :D

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments That’s not funny Will, trees are really tricky buggers. I once had one hit me in the back of the car in the woods. I swear it was a clearing - then bump!
Sorry about your colleague Desley.
My sisters book was the Good Companions. JB Priestley.
I had a bad start today. I left ‘his’ toaster on 1 slice setting last night and he put 2 slices in this morning. The air was blue!
Then I bust the shower door off it’s fitting. He’s fixed that now but he did tell me it was broken at the top so it wasn’t my fault. It’s glass so it’s not a good design when the door falls off

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments I’m giggling about the Austin Powers scene. Sunny day today, just sitting in bed chilling but I must get up soon and go do some writing. Don’t have to ring Mum today as I went to see her yesterday but have to sit in on McMini’s drum lesson.

Will, I have a drip feed system for my greenhouse, it’s a really simple one. You hang up a bag with a hose coming out of the bottom! But it works pretty well and it’s good when we go away because kindly watering buddies only have to fill the bags.

Ann hoping for raspberries here too. They have taken over half the veg patch and the birds aren’t interested so far. Here’s hoping they stay that way.

I have now salvaged a row of bonus spinach, so it’s worth being a shit gardener and letting things go to seed! 🤣🤣🤣

Snapped another underwire on my bra yesterday but managed to meld four bras with one underwire snapped each into two complete bras. Go me. Phnark.

Supposed to be scorching here so I’m going to have a lazy day sitting in the sun writing until my ipad dies, then I’ll go indoors and do some of the marketing stuff that only my computer can do.

Morning all and have a good day everyone. :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Morning all, had a rubbish night sleep, luckily i don't have much on today. Spoke to rheumatology yesterday, rheumatologist is off long term sick, a locum has been through my results and prepared a letter, but it hasn't arrived so they are resending it, but wouldn't tell me over the phone, and are referring me for physio, but who knows how long that will take in the current climate. Thanks for the reminder Alicia, might get back onto that.
