Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12597 comments Frustrating day today, decided to ring and see what was happening with my dental referral. What a palaver, ended up speaking to 4 different people, although the first person tried fobbing me off with ringing my dentist back, pointed out that would be hard as dentists are closed, she seemed surprised by that! Upshot is it hasn't been triaged as urgent, but they are currently not allowed to do extractions or anything using a drill, so all the secretary (4th person) could offer was an emergency number in case it gets worse. So keep looking at all the food in my house I'm unable to eat and glad I bought more porridge yesterday. Been a bitter wind here today, so not sat outside reading, but glad I know where that path leads, even if the hill was so steep I'm never going to go up there again!

Never thought of using the water dispenser for wine Lynne, what a fab idea! We had loud fireworks and people hitting pans last night Good idea with the knitted hearts Kath. Hope you can get some food R!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Sorry Desley I didn’t mean that. The water is plumbed in to the mains. But the wine box is just sitting on a shelf in the fridge. I haven’t figured out a way to have plumbed n wine but it’s certainly worth thinking about.
It’s rained here off and on all day sometimes quite hard, the garden needs it.
All our house moving seems to be on stop here I assumed it was because removal men couldn’t work they aren’t classed as key workers. A neighbours house is sold but it’s all on hold at the moment.

Here's a thought: doggy poo bags that degrade after 90 days in sunshine or something equivalent. So there's plenty of time to dispose of properly, but if the dog owner is a slob, it will eventually biodegrade.

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Damp soggy start to Saturday so no gardening for now. Finally got some post yesterday - the grandchildren's easter cards turned up! A lovely easter chick from the 5 year old and an easter spider from the 3 year old - I don't think she's moved past Hallowe'en yet! So last night I made a batch of cupcakes, going to ice them today with easter spiders & webs... hopefully their mummy is calling by later as she needs some of my vinyl gloves (none in supermarket) which I usually use for cake decorating. And she's got some shopping for our neighbour which Sainsburys were out of.
After that, its back to the family history research - plenty of time for trawling through the census returns etc.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning. One new doggy-poo bag yesterday some someone is still doing it. First time round that field they could have been there for a while, and some of them obviously had. I hope I catch someone doing it - but I think they look around and check they're not watched.

Will have ten pairs of hearts to pack up by Sunday evening when my sister is popping around in her car to collect a roast dinner from my doorstep, and our shopping list for Monday. She's offered to post them.

Cooler, greyer. If it would just get on and rain I wouldn't need the hosepipe on the veg plot tonight.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12597 comments Morning, overcast and windy out, as it's weekend I think I'll do a bit in the house, ring a friend and my walk will be to Lidl for some milk. Some meandering thoughts from conversations with friends, apologies if this is long and boring!

Friend A; "Think you should try yoga before bed, it relaxes me'. My response "Hmm, I find an episode of Criminal Minds before bed relaxes me" :-)

Friend B shocked me actually by telling me she feels lonely - she lives with her boyfriend, but she is the kind of person who is out a lot, whether it is the gym, going to football or going to the pub, and not used to spending time just the two of them. Found it quite sad that a friend who lives with someone could feel lonelier than me who lives alone, but I think you guys play a part in that, and I am chatting to neighbours every day, plus my team chat and friends daily, some more than normal now we have nothing to do! And also, I think part of what is making me feel happier, the lack of pressure to spend my weekends doing 'interesting stuff' is actually what is making her feel lonely.

Wow, you have done well with the knitted hearts Kath! Glad you finally got your Easter cards Karen, hope they enjoy the cupcakes.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments You’ve prompted me to phone a friend. A widow who was really struggling with being on her own well before all this confinement started., thanks Desley. I know I have a good old chuff about my darling but I’m really glad I’m not on my own too. I know pets help sone people a lot. They keep you busy if nothing else but it is another soul to feed and care for.
We’ve got a family what’s app group which is pinging every five minutes. My sister, daughter, niece and her 2 daughters - it’s been really good.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12597 comments I'm sure your friend will appreciate it Lynne. I think WhatsApp groups are good, it is nice to do video chats too

I think it's the nature of the person Desley. It often strikes me that you have a genius for 'keeping busy' (in the nicest sense of the phrase) and just banish loneliness by your attitude

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12597 comments Well, didn't get through everything, however have had some lovely conversations! Had about 3 with vegan neighbour and have offered to get her some stuff when I go shopping next week as she doesn't have a car. Rang my fundraising friends, got the husband and ended up on the phone over an hour talking to him, he seemed pleased I rang, and when we said bye, I said I'd ring again next week and the response was 'yes, please do' so I will. They live locally, so he gave me some suggestions for walks too.

Funny you should say that Jim, I read an article about how your starsign helps you cope with the lockdown, mine was 100% accurate, although no one else's was! It basically said I need to get my energy out to feel I'm proactively doing something and one of those ways is keeping yourself busy with new tasks, which is exactly true!

My sisters wanted me to join their Whatsapp group - you just reminded me why I didn't. they're all happy to be in each other's business all day, all of them in Mexico City, but it would 1) interrupt me constantly, and 2) make me incredibly sad that they have lives and I haven't for over 30 years.

Neither of those things is good for my writing, and neither is anything I can do something about. The writing is going well, but I really have to block interruptions AND the internet to get anything done.

Oh, look! A squirrel!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments You’ve nailed the interruptions Alicia, I hear a ping, stop what I’m doing, look at phone and it’s just chit chat. What star sign are you Desley?
I didn’t phone my friend. I must do it. She was so depressed last time it was such hard going.
I’m losing track of the days, not that it matters that much but it’s worrying.
I don’t like the idea that once the social isolation is relaxed that ‘seniors’ may be confined until there’s a vaccine. I’ve seen that in the French papers as well.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12597 comments Morning, thanks to treating myself to a couple of gins last night, I've been awake since 5.30! Did have some lovely cuddles with Lucy though, and found some music concerts/documentaries on Prime. Not much today, some Sunday chores, making a cottage pie type tea, so will hopefully finish my book and paint my nails. Forgot to say I got a letter from the NHS yesterday telling me as part of social distancing, please do not attend your rheumatology app in June. However, this was the app that got cancelled in Jan due to unforeseen circumstances, so I was never going to attend!

I'm a Scorpio Lynne. Do hope you get to speak to your friend, the husband of the couple I rang yesterday was saying he didn't think he could cope with living on his own at a normal time, much less now! Yes, that is a bit worrying. I don't think we are going to see normal life again this year.

message 13468: by Karen (new)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments I think my husband misses company and going out far more than I do! I'm happy pottering round, doing craft stuff, cooking, etc - that to do list hasn't got much shorter.
First job of the morning is a catch-up on YouTube with the Dyfi Osprey project - one egg in the nest so far, second one due tomorrow (three day interval normally) - and this morning can hear the cuckoo calling loud and clear! so sad we can't be there to watch/listen

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Love the spider cakes Karen, they’re great. I often think that women cope better in housebound situations. Especially the ‘domesticated variety’. Not insulting or being rude to anyone but we know who we are. I’ll never climb a mountain or want to but I’m totally happy pottering about. Those of us with hobbies or skills like writing, painting, crafting or interests never usually get enough time or uninterrupted opportunity. However I do hope it’s weeks not months of it for everyone else’s sake.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I think I just told a fib. I did climb a big hill, Mam Tor which is sometimes called Shivering Mountain.
Let’s all go for a walk on Sunday they said. Being city kids I thought a twice round the Arboretum type walk so dressed accordingly.
I didn’t bargain or dress for the Peak District hike but being young, stupid and determined to impress I did it. It has not been forgotten
A few months ago we saw a report of people being stranded on Mam Tor and had to be rescued. My husband remarked how dopey some of these walkers were and added ‘ You did it in high heels’
I did. Lovely Italian nappa leather mules. I loved those shoes.

message 13473: by Will (new)

Will Once (willonce) | 3772 comments Ah yes, Mam Tor - one of my favourites. It has one of the best ridge walks in England.

But probably not a walk to do in high heels!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12597 comments I think it agrees on what your interests normally are Lynne, me and one friend are quite content (she takes it further than me, she can go from finishing work on Thu to going to work on Mon without speaking to someone, she even switches her phone off so she doesn't get disturbed!), but 3 of my friends are struggling, as they are normally out and about, so being forced to stay in and find new things is tough on them. I'm enjoying this quieter pace, and the fact that sitting on my sofa on a Sat evening isn't sneered at, as no one can go out! I have even enjoyed watching TV today, watched more than I have for days, and discovered that my bed is a sun trap from 4-6pm! I remember a first date, we were going for lunch so I was a bit dressy and he then suggested a walk - turned out up quite a steep hill, we did laugh about that a few dates later!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12597 comments Morning all, sunny again. Going to drive to a spot for my walk today, I could walk to it, but its such a steep walk I'd only get to the start of the trail before having to turn back! Ended up chatting to neighbours so long yesterday I didn't finish my book and it was 7pm when I sat down with my tea, so will tidy the kitchen and wash up today. Bit worried about one of my neighbours, we spoke to his daughter last year as we were concerned about his memory, but he seems worse now.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Think that's a male thing maybe, Lynne? :)

Went out for my constitutional dander first thing this morning, it was lovely. A walk by the sea really helps. Then finished a painting, and spent the afternoon gardening. Should sleep well after all that fresh air

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12597 comments Morning all, had a lovely walk yesterday, found a nice woodes area I never knew existed. However, every walk I've found involves a hill or steps, knee isn't appreciating it. Even the local park has a hill in it though. Braving the retail park today, and shopping for 5 people, not looking forward to it. At least it is dry for the queues.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12597 comments Well, I went to the retail park at the right time, I had to queue to get in two shops, but as I was leaving, there were queues outside 3. The Range had the worst queue and pets at home told me i could only buy essentials, not sure what else I would buy from there! Was annoyed when i got home to find my neighbour had gone out, rang her to make sure nothing was wrong, she was cagey but turned out she had gone to Tesco, wouldn't have got her £50 of shopping if i knes she was going out herself and she didn't bother to ask of i needed anything! Got my wage slip, am down less than I'll be putting in my savings account from last months wage and I did buy more of certain things today, so should be fine financially.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Well I think she can go herself the next time Desley! That would annoy me no end.

Another fabulous day in the offing. Shall spend the afternoon in the garden again, after pretending to work in the morning. Plus I need to check my seeds every hour to see if they've germinated yet :D

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12597 comments Morning all, still feel tired after yesterday's shopping trip! Going to do some washing, and go to the post office as some of the neighbours paid in cash which is no use to me at the moment, but apparently I can pay it in there, which is walking distance unlike the bank which requires getting in the car. Got up to a message from ratty neighbour, one of her new rats got behind the washing machine last night and is it possible she got in my house? Very much doubt that to be honest.

Hope the seeds germinate R

Lovely day again. I hate to say it but when summer comes after lovely warm spring it’s usually rubbish weather. It’s as if all the sunshine allowance is used up early.
My wisteria is coming out nicely and I’ve seen a swallow twice. I think that’s very early for here.

Once - if you're friends. More than that, I'd say you were being taken advantage of. Mostly because you were annoyed - which sounds as if it was unexpected, not a pattern.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12597 comments Well, ended up on the phone for an hour to ratty neighbour, decided not to point out that the rat likely wouldn't survive and instead pointed out how impossible it was, as I have no holes, and we dont have cavities so nothing for her to crawl through! Got up to a pic of her back in the cage, so happy ending. Have signed up to 3 voluntary tasks, won't find out about kindness cards till Tue, am delivering food parcels on Mon pm and filled in a form for telephone befriending, there were other things I was interested in, like typing/proofread people's stories. No real plans for today, had a rubbish night sleep so might be lazy. Paying in at the post office was easy, it was like having a refund put on your card, I checked my online banking when i got home and it was in my account, hope they keep that after this, a lot easier than going to the bank.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments How does everyone feel about masks. The French government have said its obligatory to wear one from 11th May.
My neighbour has just sent me instructions for approved design home made ones but there’s lots on YouTube as well so I’m going to see what I’ve got in my stash of haberdashery bits. I know I’ve got fabric suitable even though it was once a curtain. I don’t mind a floral one but I’m not sure about husband. He may object.
They are basically a square pleated into a rectangle of double cotton but the bit above the nose is clever. They put a wire in the hem at the top. You can even use a twist tie for plastic bags just to give a bit of shape. If I make a few they are easy to wash and sterilise. Better than nothing if you think they protect a bit.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12597 comments Hope we don't have to, felt hot and lightheaded having to wear one for an hour visiting my mum in the hospital

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments My daughter is wearing a mask. She is in London though, and having to travel on public transport to get to work. I would too, in her place. I'm not going to up here though, unless it is obligatory.

Another nice day and the wind has dropped significantly, should be a warm afternoon for once.

It turns out that checking on seeds every hour doesn't in fact make them germinate any faster. Shocking.

I went into town, had to visit the bank. Walking round town I saw five people with masks, three were over eighty and one was Chinese.
People were just keeping a sensible distance apart.
There were a bunch of chaps putting up scaffolding, all had masks hanging round their necks but none were wearing them. I don't blame them, doing that sort of job in the heat

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12597 comments Well, don't know why I thought I might have a lazy day! Felt better after my lunch so did a washload, went for a walk and got to drop my friends vegan milk off, had a brief chat from a distance, reminded her to put her bin out, before coming home and doing mine! Think I complained about my neighbour prematurely, she went for paint today and ended up calling in Iceland and got the beans and mushy peas I couldn't get on Tue.
