Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12597 comments Ended up having a nap yesterday, so didn't achieve much, except I did sign up for the volunteer scheme. Very windy here, although sun is trying to shine, so will get all the housework done today, and contemplating trimming my fringe.

Glad you seem a bit happier about things R.

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Blimey it's really chilly here today tho the sun is shining. Don't think I'll be out in the garden till its warmed up a few degrees. Got lots to play with anyway, so probably get on with my patchwork quilt in a mo. Certainly not tackling any housework!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Lovely and sunny but quite cool. Lunch (the high spot of the day) to cook and dog to feed. So I’d better get a move on.
Yesterday’s lunch was ‘eventful’. Husband’s Yorkshire pudding was a temptation for the dog. He was blithely unaware it was being watched. Dobermann s are really sneaky and extremely fast. Billy struck like a cobra and legged it with an oven hot yorkie pud. I yelled, husband yelled and Billy swallowed it whole. Husband shouted at him, I shouted at husband for being dopey and letting Billy possibly burn his mouth. Poor little dog.
Poor little dog - promptly puked right next to me at the table. On the carpet. By the time I’d cleaned up my appetite quite gone - my dinner was cold. Bleddy dogs and bleddy men!!
p.s. I still love the dog and he didn’t burn himself.

Eventful indeed! You describe it so well, I could just picture it! Glad dog is ok though

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12597 comments Well, today ended up one of those days where I did so much I was bored at 4.30 wondering what I was going to do until it was a reasonable hour to go to bed! Trimmed my fringe, it was interesting, I kept snipping air as I couldn't work out in the mirror where my hair/scissors were! Didn't do that bad a job of it either.

Sorry you didn't really get to enjoy your lunch Lynne, glad dog didn't burn his mouth. As this isn't the first dobie you've had, you'd think hubby would be a bit more clued up! Nothing from Patti recently, hope she is OK

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Hope everyone is okay, maybe bored, but not dealing with anything more severe than that.

I rode my new Airwheel S8 (named Maggie2) down to the mailroom and back, and decontaminated when I got back. That was the most exciting thing I did today - thank goodness!

Cutting your own hair is the beginning of settling in, Desley.

Great story about the dog and the pudding, Lynne. I agree - you should have expected that - cleaning up does not seem fun at all. Wonder if doggie learned anything.

Jim | 21810 comments Easter for us has just been busy. There are people frantically planting potatoes near by, others hauling muck out ready to plough ground for maize
One person commented to me that they're hoping the lockdown continues to May because if it does, for once they'll get silaging done without having to fight their way through the queues of traffic (They farm near Blackpool and as you can imagine, the roads can be a nightmare)

I hate to say it, but the lockdown needs to continue far longer than most people are willing to wait - to stop transmission of the virus - but people will start becoming infected again almost immediately because they will do the same things they did in the beginning: move about and take it with them, and then share.

Until we have prevention (vaccines, antibody injections) and treatment (possibly a specific antiviral), OR herd immunity is very large because most people had the disease, we're in a pickle.

From the evidence we've gathered, hot weather does NOT stop this pandemic - Australia, Africa, and South America had summer while we had winter, and they were not immune. So we're going to have to wait for vaccines to be administered to an awful lot of people.

Which means the farmers will be able to use the roads.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments We were watching the French news closely last night as we’ve still got the tunnel booking we postponed in March. You’re allowed to put it back without financial penalty so we will have to do that again. They are still very restricted till May 11 and after then the public places and restaurants, cinemas and events are cancelled till July. It’s strange for us but I can only speak personally and as a retired person I count myself really lucky. No work worries, pension is still paid etc. ,the financial implications for people and governments worldwide are going to be dreadful.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12597 comments Morning all, just had my team chat, I think the rest of them are going to appreciate the day starting off with light hearted banter rather than work talk! Boss is keen for me to get involved with volunteer efforts, ironic as he didn't before I got furloughed! Got some washing to peg out, going to ring a couple of friends and start organizing/scanning books.

https://www.goodreads.com/photo/group...

Glad you got out Alicia, loved the pic of the easter treats you got. Hope there can be something good from the lockdown Jim! A colleague just said he reckons it will be till June. I just want them to give another date, so we have something mentally to work towards

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning, each!

Just had another food delivery via my sister, and we'll be collecting meat and eggs tomorrow from the farm I can see from my window. Did a bank transfer so no mucky cash need change hands. It's beautifully quiet here. It's a country village but quite close to the Hull boundary and there's normally an underlying traffic hum that you barely notice. Fantastic when it's gone.

Notice the odd bit of rubbish appearing on the field paths so on Sunday I ordered a litter picker which is coming this afternoon. They won't let us oldies volunteer for any of the jobs that need doing, but we can do this!

Keep your peckers up and keep safe.

Well done on the fringe Desley! My husband's back to cutting his own hair, as he used to when we were students and hadn't any money. Mine's just growing... I'll be like Rapunzel in a couple of months.
Still chilly here despite sunshine so another afternoon sewing patchwork in the conservatory I think.
As Lynne said, just glad we are retired so don't have to worry about the business/staff any more. It's bad enough worrying about the children and grandchildren.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12597 comments Morning, sun shining again. Was hoping to collect Lucy's meds, they are just waiting for the vet to advise dosage. Pretty much same as yesterday, except have to wash up as out of tea spoons! The volunteer group rang yesterday, he said he was impressed at my attitude to being furloughed. My new walk wasn't very long so went round the park, people have tied knitted rainbows in some of the trees.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments OH has just decided on a pizza for lunch. That’s fine I’ve got ingredients and nothing better to do so a nice pizza it will be. Clouding up a bit here.
I’m in a bit of a grumpy mood. My replacement teapot came from amazon this morning, Chipped. I’ve never had a worse packed parcel, big box (very dented) few of those air big jobbies somewhere near it. It was rattling as I picked it up - not a good sign. Grrrr. Still on the whole things could be much worse, it’s only a little cracked pot. Just like me 😁

: ) annoying though - my new teapot arrived intact, well packed. At least you have till end of may to send it back. Hope the replacement arrives swiftly - has to be an 'essential' item!

message 13418: by Lynne (Tigger's Mum) (new)

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Karen I filled in return but on the following page there was an option to refund without returning. So I filled it in. I can’t use the tea pot as the chip is about an inch long and round the top where the lid sits so tea might pour out of it if it’s full. I’ve ordered another as well. But I’m saving on teabags as husband has actually agreed to having one teabag in a mug before he would put two in the pot for one mug of tea. He still thinks it’s very uncouth to make tea like that but all my other teapots are much bigger, so he’s making sacrifices. Isn’t he heroic? 😁

Taking advantage of the weather to do my washing too.

Good luck getting teapot sorted Lynne, what an annoying place to be damaged. Sorry you are fed up R

Pat () | -245 comments Good morning folks, overcast here today. Other than that the only change is the loss of pressure in the heating, I don't know where the top-up tap is and had to phone the chap who installed the boiler. He's not working because of the lockdown and my call is classed as an emergency call out. So emergency equals £60! Getting old and having to rely on others sucks! Stay safe everyone.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I’ve got a Tesco delivery tomorrow. It’s looking more like a lucky dip than a shopping list. If you look at the cost of the basket and it’s gone down from the previous one you can only see instantly if you accept the changes then go and look at the email and it tells you what items are removed.
You can look at the basket item by item but it’s easy to miss something. Anyway todays deductions were Billy’s dog treats.’ schmackos ‘ so I searched for dog treats. Everything for cats available, then the fun starts. Dog mugs, hot dot sausages, lots of baby feeding bottles - the connection is Teats not treats. The mind of that app. programmer must be ‘interesting’ to say the least.
Where the avocado fits in though - feck knows! It isn’t even an anagram of doggy stuff.
I’m just hope he or she doesn’t plan the stores shelf layouts or any thing vital.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Do you not have a local council Care & Repair team? They come out and do that sort of thing for little or no charge. My mum calls them for little jobs that require ladders or power tools that don't really need a actual tradesperson

Had to order a new tea strainer the other day, mine developed a hole and as I'm using leaf tea at the moment, it was a bit vital!

Alicia

Add my household of three to your team - all (mostly) non-tea drinkers. Our hot beverage of choice is black Americano in those dim and distant days when we drank coffee at a thing I seem to recall was called a shop.

At home it's a mug of gold blend with water at 70 degrees from our fancy kettle.

In days past I might have ordered a tea with scone and jam, which gives three arguments about what to put in first to the tea (water or milk), what to put first onto the scone (jam or cream) and how to pronounce "scone".

And should the tea be Yorkshire builders or Earl Grey with little pinkie raised?

The mem has been known to have an occasional tea green without milk, but that's probably her continental ancesty showing.

Thanks for making my morning, Will!

I don't drink coffee, either, despite my dear mother's prediction that I would learn because it was required for social life. In Mexico, where I grew up, people get together for 'un cafecito' (a little coffee - the Spaniards make fun of the Mexican habit of tuning everything into a diminutive) - and something sweet, like pan dulce, to go with it.

Needless to say, I thought the WHOLE procedure was a waste of time, and, besides, Mexican cakes were never really sweet enough - though they were pretty.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12597 comments Morning, up early thanks to the bin men, but got a social work chat. Bit cooler today, so looking forward to exploring a new path. Might catch up with a friend too. Surprised at how well I've enjoyed this 'week off'.

A friend works for a housing association that offers that service but they were reducing it before she went on maternity leave due to funding issues. I get the occasional request but I don't accept unless its someone I've chatted to on a group. I didn't drink tea or coffee till my 30's, but dont drink normal coffee or make my tea normally which amuses my colleagues! I wish I could drink wine though.

message 13446: by Lynne (Tigger's Mum) (new)

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments My wine box has run out. My daughter laughs at me as my fridge has a water dispenser and usually a wine box inside. She told little lad that was grandma’s water tap. Cheeky moo.
Someone let off enormous fireworks again last night. Really big explosions. Our dog was fast asleep and leapt up startled and hurt himself. There’s a couple of dogs ran away and someone’s kitten actually ran away and got run over. Lots of pet owners said they can’t go out and clap and keep their pets calm so it’s spoilt it for a lot of people.
I wish these idiots would think about giving the cash that went up In smoke to something useful. I’ve seen a lot of adverts for those other fire and animal hazards. Chineses lanterns!
Charities are hard hit at the moment. I’d also hate to live near the cretin that stores these things in his home. Grrrrrr.
Sorry, feel better now that’s off me chest 😀

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Hello! Well I've been like a kid at Christmas with my new litter picker! Very few people use those field paths normally. There's a bit of new litter, chiefly paper hankies, but some of the stuff has been there ages. Three small (kitchen) bin bags of rubbish disposed of now, and I think there'll only be the occasional bit each day from this point. I'll keep on top of it, though.

I can't help wondering why people think that lobbing their doggy-poo bags in the bushes is sensible disposal, though. If they just left it where it dropped, at least it would biodegrade. I've removed (at arm's length, of course) some antiques over the past couple of days. Then home to spray the gripper with antibax and leave it to dry in the garage. And the Happy Birthday Song x 2!

Found a pattern for small stuffed knitted hearts and the name of the local ward manager coordinating Hearts for Covid-19. You make them in matching pairs so the patient has one and one is sent to their family at home, because they can't be together. When you're at the age when you can't volunteer for anything and have to stay home, it gives you a feeling that you might be able to help in a small way.

Morning all. Downstairs flat - which has been for sale recently - is being emptied by removers today. Which means, as we share a stair, that I am stuck inside until they have finished (as they are huffing and puffing up and down the stairs almost continually). Which is annoying as I want to get out to do my weekly shop

I’ve had a Tesco delivery and it’s raining. Whoopee,
